My meetings got out a…read morebit late so I looked up late night Korean food spots and found Namsan... which was a 26 minute walk from my hotel one way. My craving must have been intense because I didn't even think about it and started my long walk there. The layout of the restaurant is interesting. The bathroom is in the basement, the first floor is a bit small but has some tables, and the second floor has most of the dining area space. Interior decoration was pretty minimal but there was kpop playing and it was a bit dark in there so if you're looking to get a few drinks and Korean food with some friends, this would be a great spot. When I was sat at my table and I looked through the menu, the first thing that popped in my head was that they had quite an extensive menu. From army stew, bibimbap, bulgogi, and what I decided to get Dakgalbi (marinated chicken bbq). The Dakgalbi was really good and marinated well. I wasn't expecting the fried rice at the end to come with it like in Korea which was also really good. The only critique I have regarding the food is that there weren't that many side dishes (banchan) and the lettuce on the side was an extra $5. Service was on point. Thu and the woman server, I forgot her name, worked well as a team to make sure everyone was taken care of even though they had to walk up and down those stairs probably 10+ times just when I was there.

Service was good and several water jugs were brought to the table. - Banchan - kimchi, sliced potato, mung bean sprouts, daikon, fish cake, hot dog and pickled onion. Nothing memorable. - Soon doo boo jjigae (#63) ($15.50) - soft tofu stew was the blandest I've had. No depth or complexity. - Gahm jah tang (#65) ($16.50) - pork bone stew was also bland and disappointing. - Bulgogi bibimbop (#25) ($16.00) - rice didn't get crispy. Decent enough but standard fare. - LA galbi (#54) ($26.50) - several pieces were quite fatty. Okay but have had better. Kor wouldn't be on my return list.

The food was SUPER flavourful. Very delicious. I had the bulgogi with rice cakes and the waitress gave me a Korean name that I love. It was pretty spacious with decent amount of seating , also a self serve water dispenser -the place is kept quite clean. Bulgogi Poutine really hit the spot, great flavours and fries was still crispy. Chicken Katsu bowl, was also very delicious - the mayo mixed nicely with everything. The bao buns, was pretty good as well - however the beef on this one was just a tad dry - I would re-visit to explore the menu again - if I find myself in Calgary again!

Amazing 10/10 Korean food…read more I ordered the following - Mul naengmyeon/cold buckwheat noodle. It is slightly sweet and sour. Noodles are very chewy and "Q" and is a very pleasant dish. Highly recommend for those who enjoy cold buckwheat noodles -soondae gukbap (soup with tripe, pork, and Korean sausage). It is my favorite today. The broth is boiled to milky white and is so good to the last drop. I find most pork broths in Korean restaurants aren't boiled for this long to be this flavorful. I taste no MSG and is not salty. It's just a fragrant and creamy pork broth flavor, which makes it hard to be so good when it's so simple. For those who enjoy bone broth, definitely try it out. The Korean sausages are also very tasty. I believe it's blood sausage with clear noodles in it. The pork and tripe/intestine slices are very generous portions and go great with the chili dip provided. -Osam Bulgogi (hot plate pork and squid) is also very tasty. It's oilier and stronger flavor so I decided to just take it to go since the portions are too much for 2 people. Very delicious too. The sides are also very delicious, which is also why I find this restaurant outstanding. I wish there's one in the East Bay Area in NorCal! Notes to myself: Hot plate pork and squid。很香。好吃。好大盤 Cold buckwheat noodles. 超Q. 酸甜的清湯涼麵 Pork soup with Korean sausage, tripe, pork。好鮮好香。慢慢喝 越喝越香。血腸麵條好香。然後料好多。沾著紅辣椒醬。

The inside is also rather small, they seat maybe 7 tables each with 2-4 people per table. There's tons of traditional Korean decorations everywhere. The staff is also all Korean and greet you in Korean. There's unlimited high quality purple bean rice. The sides are nothing to write home about other than the macaroni salad. They had an interesting take on it by adding imitation crab - I'm not sure I liked that part. Otherwise it's similar to the chain BCD tofu. The ever popular seafood pajeon (a pancake-like dish) is made extremely thick and therefore isn't crispy at all like pajeon normally is. I don't really recommend this item. Interestingly there's a bulgogi dish with vegetables and noodles (thin, clear). Makes the dish much more hearty. The flavor and quality was pretty good. Seafood tofu soup. They do a great job of making it spicy if you ask. The flavoring has that umami feel. Overall, not overwhelmingly amazing. A bit on the pricey side. They do have a very wide range of menu items and some pretty authentic items that aren't normally regularly provided in Korean restaurants. Service is fine - didn't meet anyone rude or anyone particularly amazing either.

Staff were attentive and friendly. Each table had a button which would call someone to come to your table. This was nice as whenever you needed someone you can press the button. Our server was pleasant and attentive; despite being masked, she was extremely quick to make eye contact. Any extra utensils, napkins, side dish (ban chan) refills, were brought to our table in less than a minute! The boys and I ordered the seafood pancake (pa jeon), gam ja tang (pork bone soup), and LA kalbi (barbecued beef short ribs). All main dishes come with 7 side dishes (ban chan) -- glass potatoes, tempura zucchini (lightly battered and crispy), sliced sausage and onions, seaweed salad (seasoned perfectly and served at the correct (cooler) temperature), kimchi, omelette strips with red pepper powder, sautéed zucchini and onions. As a continued precaution, the rice is served individually in stainless steel bowls (instead of self-serve). The gam ja tang was served with two large pork bones(with plenty of tender meat still attached), potatoes, and vegetables in a spicy(but not tongue-numbing) broth. The pa jeon was perfectly cooked with a generous amount of seafood in a crispy pancake. The kalbi was seasoned nicely and served with lettuce and miso-garlic sauce. Since this restaurant is relatively small, reservations are recommended. We will definitely be back!

The young woman waiting on our table did a good job answering questions and was quick to refill the banchan plates. There were four of us. We ordered loads of dishes and they were all very good. This is not gourmet K food. It does not put on airs. It was pretty much Korean home cooking scaled up for a restaurant. One recommendation for the owner: some sort of dessert would be a good addition to the menu, even if it's only ice cream. Yakgwa (honey cookies) with vanilla ice cream would be even better.
