This hotel is absolutely perfect for the traveler who wants a quiet and beautifully decorated hotel, at a low rate, and close to the tourist center, but not in it. Our room was on the first level and directly over a cobblestone street with buses and cars going past every few minutes. We could hear absolutely none of it through the two sets of double pane glass doors on the window. In addition, the bathroom and entry area was isolated with another door to the bed area. This is the quietest hotel room I have ever had.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and spoke English at the front desk, as well as other languages.
The breakfast was included with our room and it was spectacular. There is a cozy room with antiques, impeccably decorated, and beautiful furniture and tables set with china, adjacent to a compact buffet with a trickling waterfall for ambience. The buffet offers everything a westerner could need, including; a giant bowl of fresh fruit salad, yogurt, cereal, Portuguese meats and cheeses, glazed muffins, 8 different kinds of bread and pastries, jams, hot eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh squeezed juices, and to top it all off - there are fresh Portuguese pastreis de nata! These Portuguese delights are as good as the famous Belem tarts.
