Think twice about buying your cakes from here!! I recently bought a half sheet birthday cake from here and because my son wanted a dual superhero theme I paid almost the double price (45.00 dollars with my 20% off coupon) compared to stop and shop or bj's ($24.99) to make him happy. Part of getting the cake I told the Art's rep that I wanted whip cream frosting. They said no problem and I picked up the cake on the day of the birthday. Well, upon cutting into the cake I was informed by my guests that the frosting on the cake was buttercream and not the whip cream I had ordered. The cake was good and the guests did not complain other than how they thought it would have been so much better if it was the way I ordered it. We had almost 40 guests so as you can imagine with a half sheet we went through all the cake. I called Art's on Monday and explained how my order was wrong and how I felt for the money I paid I thought the attention should have been made to make sure the order was correct. The girl I spoke to on the phone was very understandable that I should have received what I had paid for and asked if I had any cake left over. I told her it was gone and that I wasn't looking for money back just thought something should be done. She said she would have to talk to Art and get back to me on Tuesday. Well Tuesday came and went and no phone call so I called on Wednesday and the same girl, still very nice, told me that Art was going to give me a discount on a next cake I purchased. This seemed to be an acceptable remedy as I wasn't looking for any monetary compensation just felt like I deserved something for the money I paid. I asked what the discount would be on the next cake and the girl told me she would call Art to make sure and get back to me. Approximately 25 minutes later I received a call from her telling me that because I didn't have any cake left that Art was willing to extent his generosity for screwing up my order by giving my a $5.00, yes five dollars, discount on my next cake!!! Being that she said it without laughing in my face I assume that this was a serious attempt at making things right. All this time I had assumed being that this cake wasn't cheap I would be told the discount would be something like 30 or 40%. 5 Bucks seems more like a screw you discount than a remedy. This was the biggest insult I could have been given. I think that if they had just told me sorry they can't do anything I would have been less insulted. Being that they expected me to have saved cake to bring back to them to prove that I'm not a liar is ridiculous, not to mention the fact that I live 35 minutes from them. The girl on the phone checked my order and confirmed that I had ordered the whip cream frosting and if they didn't believe me they could have just checked with their decorator. I don't know if they expected me to taste test the frosting when I picked up the cake on Saturday at 1130 when they closed at 1200 but that isn't the way it happens anywhere I have ever bought a cake. I know if this had happened at stop and shop or bj's I would have had a much better experience with this problem being remedied. Art can keep his five buck discount cause he obviously needs it more than me and in this economy treating customers like this after his company screws up doesn't see like a very good business angle. I strongly urge anyone who needs a birthday cake to go somewhere other than Art's. Unless you are willing to make sure you save a sample of cake before you guests are able to eat in case it isn't what you ordered. Even then Art's remedy to the screw up with proof probably won't even be worth the extra money you pay patronizing him and the return trip to drop off the proof. STAY AWAY!!!!
