It was my first visit to Lafayette and we had just eaten there right before the store so it was an awesomely coincidental souvenir. The lady working the checkout counter (I think she was the owner) was super friendly. The roads all around them are under construction so it took us a few tries to get in to the parking lot. She was staging a tableau of items to sell on Facebook live, I thought that was a pretty cool way to combat the reduced sales. They are on Instagram also.

I was very disappointed while I was in the store today that the lady working in the store and…read morerunning the cash register was not wearing a mask. She had it under her chin, but did not pull it up even when interacting with customers. Such a lack of respect! There were also several customers without masks, in violation of the governor's orders.

Street parking is available directly in front of the shop. The shop is much larger than it appeared from the outside. Various size rooms are filled throughout but organized well and items are clean. You'll find everything from cupboards, cabinets, dolls, shelves, candles, blankets, primitive furniture, butter churns, signs and so much more. The owner was friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered. She was available if I had questions but not underfoot. If you're looking for a nice selection of antiques and primitives, stop in.

You can park in front or out back of the building and use either front or back entrance. The aroma of scented candles hits you when you walk in the door. They sell these candles along with primitive antiques, vintage items and country decor. Items are arranged artistically within the small shop.

Her shop is immaculate,…read morewell organized, beautiful groupings on tables and furniture, in-trend colors and something for those who enjoy primitive, antiques, traditional, country and farmhouse styles. Displays are well spaced apart so you're not bumping into other shoppers. Or as in our case, room for my friend to walk easily between displays with her walker. The owner was kind enough to allow her to sit on several chairs as she needed to rest a few times while browsing the shop. (Side effects of Covid-19). Currently the Easter decor is the holiday being displayed throughout and it is adorable. The varies types of bunnies with different hair and faces are so fun. If you're decorating for Easter she has adorable pieces to set the holiday mood in your home and centerpieces for your dining table. The furniture is gorgeous, priced well, versatile and perfect for many home decor styles. You'll also find colorful rugs, amazing lamps, bowls, blanket chests, wardrobes, ceramic pieces, glassware, wreaths, phenomenal artifical floral arrangements in all colors and would work in so many places in a home. So many things that it's impossible to mention it all. The owner was very friendly, answered questions, allowed us to browse freely and at our pace. As I mentioned before she allowed my friend to sit on the furniture when she couldn't walk any further which was so kind of her. She has an Open House this week so try to attend if you're free. I posted the Open House Flyer under the Tips button or checkout her Facebook site. Wonderful shop and well worth the 45 minute drive from the Westside of Indy. Easy street parking available in front of the building.

They have sections unlike I've seen in most bookstores, like a whole section for LGBTQ+ books, trans reads, and flora & fauna. (I have no idea what this one is, but it's not what you think it is.) Plus a nice little children's area with a cozy couch to cuddle up on and read some books. When I visited, there were only a handful of people in the shop, and so it was nice and quiet. Main Street Books is a nice place to browse in a peaceful space. There's nothing like a quiet bookstore. That's the way they should be. The prices are about what you'd expect for an independent bookstore (which means they're the same as a chain bookstore), but they also have a section with books that are discounted, so you can definitely find a bargain.

The outside is kind of cluttered and could use some attention, but don't let that keep you away. The inside is great. Lots of rooms, as typical for an old home, and every room is full! They carry antiques as well as some reproductions and decorating, but if you are looking strictly for antiques, no worries. There are plenty! Nice ladies run the place, and they are always good to work with and fun to talk to. I always come away with several items, often unusual and cool stuff. There are a couple of diners/restaurants in town, so it is a nice destination for lunch and a bit of antiquing. So, all in all, Battleground isn't really an antique town, but for us, Shoup House is a destination, in itself. Go, but save some good stuff for me!

While visiting Battle Ground, IN to see the historical, Tippecanoe battlefield where General…read moreHarrison and the Shawnee chief, Tenskwatwa (or The Prophet), fought and started one of the sparks which would become the War of 1812, we stumbled across another historical site - The Shoup House. There's nothing I love more than museums and antique shops so I was in 7th heaven this particular day. Shoup House Antiques is everything I want in an antique shop. It was like someone read my mind and fabricated this special place just for me. My vacation cottage is only 1500 sq. ft. with average to low ceilings, small bedrooms and an open floor plan where the common rooms are. I don't have a lot of free wall space and even less floor space so I can't really fit antique furniture (the kind that obviously belong in homes like The Shoup House or grand Victorians) in here. What I can do is buy little accent pieces to create wonderful vignettes on my night stand, shallow shelf nook, library wall, etc. The Shoup House carries antiques and European inspired reproductions. I am a huge lover of all things from Ballard Designs and Restoration Hardware, and I found similar, if not identical, items here and for even less. I bought a beautiful table top Santos figure for $9.00 which sells for $39.00 in Ballard Deigns catalog. The oval wall clock which sold out for $82.00 was $49.00 at The Shoup House. My favorite purchase though is an architectural piece where someone talented had taken gorgeous, old tin ceiling tiles and molded them against a wood frame to create a 5' long x 18" high wall shelf for only $45.00. I feel like I stole this piece. It was so hard to keep myself from buying all the things I have coveted for so long in those catalogs and in the stores, like wire cloche bells, shabby chic balusters and columns, large b&w canvas map of downtown Chicago, antique bird cages, leather armchairs with nail head trim, etc. If I could buy the house with all the antiques in it, I could happily live here not moving a thing and consider myself at home. It's also fun to peruse all the different, 11 rooms of the house where everything is organized neatly and artistically in primitive or shabby chic cupboards, armoires and shelves, on the walls, from the ceilings, in the closets, on the porch and along the staircases. Almost every inch is packed full of antiques and decorative items, but it doesn't feel cramped or overwhelming. I haven't been this in love with a store in a few years so yes, my review is long and exuberant because I'm still giddy from my visit and discovery of this fabulous antique shop.
