And if some of the artists know that tourists will want something like that to take home as a reminder of a mountain holiday, what of it? Much of the work is of a very high quality, some is not local-themed at all, and if you want something else, jolly-well go and buy some art supplies, and get painting yourself. One day, I had a conversation with one of the artists in the gallery, and he gave me a drawing tutorial right there and then, in my sketchbook, and then another at his home, for free. Now I don't think that this is something you can expect from all the artists who man the front desk at Mountain Arts, but I certainly appreciated it. I also sent an appreciative email to another chap who had drawn a lovely ink portrait of Son House, and he was kind enough to reply. Considering that the gallery sells original art, rather than the twee, sloganeering tat that you'll find at Hobby Lobby, nobody is charging usurious prices. You can spend a couple of hundred dollars and take home a spiffing bit of art that nobody else will ever own. Just don't rub your finger all over the canvas while you're browsing at the gallery, eh? Someone will want to buy it after you've left your paw-prints on it.

She's patient, and has lots of experience in teaching young artists in training. They use different mediums each class...such as water color, colored pencils, clay to make pottery and jewelry.
