How can you call yourself a medical faculty while making fun of those who use legitimate medical "equipment". In this case trained service animals, specifically a stroke sensing dog, in front of patients? How can I trust you with the safety of my child when you so flagrantly disregard the well-being of those in need? I promptly found a new doctor/faculty and rescheduled my son within 20mins of leaving, so there isn't a shortage of options. Saturday- Received a handwritten apology from the doctor. I have to give them credit for not blowing off the incident, denying it or trying to justify it, but actually acknowledging it and trying to do better. Plus, the doctor actually took the time to write out a card and no one does that any more, so props to them for having class, acknowledging the offense and actually trying to make things right.

It was 8 months of dealing with Aspen getting a receipt that FSA would take. Then it hit me. They owed me 1100 and then it was 3 weeks of trying to get my money back. Finally Aspen sent the money to care credit and not the flex spending card. When I asked why they didn't tell me I had a large overpayment they said they thought I would just let the money stay in their account until I had more dental work done. Could not believe how shitty I was treated. On top of it the care credit was paid off so I had to wait another 7 days for The money back. They owe me interest! NEVER GO THERE. So I've been on this dental journey now for over 5 months now. I had a couple of teeth missing and…read morethen my teeth was cracking. So I got a consultation to see how to fix my problem. After finding out what I needed to do I had to really think will this be worth it. So after making my decision on just getting all my teeth pulled which was 24 of them I decided to go through with it. Dr Minikin was the oral surgeon I trusted on getting me on the next phase. Like I said I had 24 teeth extracted and 6 bone grafts. The thing is I was put out and really didn't feel no pain until the next day. I also had 2 implants put in on my lowers to make sure my denture's wouldn't move around. So after 4 months I think I'm about ready for the next stage. But no I had to go back in for another surgery for a muscle that was to strong. Dr Minikin was very straight forward and told me we needed to do this as well which I did. After 3weeks of recovery I went back and was told I was ready to see my dentist to get dentures made. Everyone in this office was the nicest people you could ask for. I needed a tooth pulled badly and was terrified of the IV sedation, as I'm so not good with needles. I was so desperate in pain for weeks trying to find a place that could do the extraction quickly and would take my insurance. Exo Dental got me in next day!!! The staff could probably tell how anxious I was, from the front staff to the nurses to Dr. McDonald, I was only met with exceptional care. I told them how nervous I was about the IV and Dr. McDonald assured me they could even do the extraction with just laughing gas. I was so relieved, and the extraction took literally 2 seconds and I didn't feel a thing. I was stunned, I've never been met with such great and personalized care from a dentist office before. The entire extraction appointment maybe took 1 hour, but the actual dental work took less than 1 minute. I couldn't believe an appointment I was terrified of coming to, I found myself extremely calm and even laughing with the nurses during the appointment. I wasn't feeling particularly anxious, but I was told it was free, so I agreed. I was quickly given paperwork to sign, which I did willingly, though I should have taken more time to read it. What was not explained to me verbally was that this involved an injection in my neck. When I realized that, I froze but went along with it. After the injection, I was told the doctor is writing a paper on this procedure and was then asked whether it helped my anxiety, which immediately made me uncomfortable and made me feel like a test subject rather than a patient. Later, when reviewing the consent, I saw listed risks such as temporary phrenic nerve blockage and infection, risks that were never clearly explained beforehand. Instead, it was described very casually as "feeling like having a mimosa." When I called with concerns, the staff were kind and understanding, but I was told I would know if something went wrong because I'd have extreme difficulty breathing. I wish that risk had been communicated before the procedure, not AFTER. The staff were friendly overall and there were no complications, but the lack of transparency and how casually this was presented felt unethical to me as a patient. While I did sign the paperwork and take responsibility for that, clearer verbal communication and informed consent would have made a huge difference.
