His incredible instruction, patience, and encouragement have helped me grow so much as an artist--I can actually see the improvement in each of my paintings. I belong to a Meetup group that each month plans an activity/dinner. It's been a long time since…read morethe last outing I was able to go, but last night I finally managed it. This time they selected Paint Vibes, an art studio run by a Chilean artist by the name of Felipe Lagos. The place is not the easiest to find, by the day, the building has a free parking lot, but by night you have to park on the street, no meters. There are a lot of art studios around, and the only sign is on the front glass, so it is easy to miss. As the owner explains all te artists around want to make something similar to Wynwood's galleries in Hialeah. Now, I can't say anything about any other activity done on Ar Vibes, but for what we did last night. The concept itself is pretty much the same as Painting with a twist: you can take food and drinks to the class, Lagos teaches you how to paint the selected painting, and you paint and eat and drink and talk and have fun and listen to music. We were all one small group so it was an intimate and fun night. They could probably use a few hair dryers to dry the paint a bit faster, but overall is a nice activity to do.

I had been to Paint with a Twist and now I went to Art and Wine and I prefer Art and Wine because it is a smaller venue and you get more personalized instruction. The instructor Roy is super nice. He takes you step by step in creating your painting and helps you put your own creative touches. He can suggest a design for the group or you can send him your own and he will work with you so you all can create the painting of your choice. They provide all materials. It's a great value and a great experience. Everyone in our group enjoyed themselves. Parking is easy too and free.

I found Monica on a google search and feel like I couldn't have been more fortunate in finding a teacher. Her teaching is so meticulously thought out and the practice lessons are simple yet so precise as to yield excellent results. When she explains the nuances of lettering, breaking down shapes and spacing of letters and and how all of it effects the finished impression, I'll never look at handwriting the same again. She has volumes of books that she put together to help with whatever style calligraphy one is interested in and was able to, with a short conversation, figure out exactly what was best for my goals. I walked in with zero experience and a pretty rough scrawl and am confident with consistent practice with her methods that I will absolutely succeed. I will definitely be scheduling another lesson on my next trip to Florida.
