If you're the least bit interested in California history, or love historical houses, this is a must-do. It's just a little side trip off Highway 101 in beautiful ranch country. You can visit Ferndale along the way. It's a gorgeous town. An amazing thing about Fern Cottage is that every last item in the house is original! The family is still in the area and want the house to be used and shown. This is a house that was well loved, and is still loved , and it shows. I got a wonderful tour from Amy and she was patient with all my questions. Don't miss the gardens!

The main bed is only big enough to comfortably accommodate one person, but there is a pull-out bed hiding somewhere in the big living room. There's a private patio overlooking lovely woods and the beautiful town of Ferndale. Getting into town is easy, too - just a few minutes walk.

The architecture of the inn reflects the charm of the city. The rooms are very quaint and quiet. They may be small but they are very comfortable and well adorned. The only issue is that the inn is not ADA compliant and the stairs a little steep when carrying luggage. All the rooms are upstairs Jason the owner was accommodating and very friendly Our derp respects and admiration for Lowell at the desk who made our stay so special and was beyond friendly and caring We are both nights in the village pub where both Lili and Andrea outdid the service. Not only was their hospitality and friendliness superior but the food was very good. The fish and chips cooked to perfection, the fries crispy and delicious and the smashed burger perfectly made. Lily was friendly and sure to greet us on her day off ! We can't say enough wonderful words about our experience We just wish that the breakfast service was available before 8am and had a few more substantial choices.

There were delicious scones (sweet or savory), fresh coffee drinks and a self-service tea station. You can drop in at any time, and payment is all on the honor/donation system, with no concrete pricing posted. It's a surreal space where you can really relax and get creative!
