I am totally biased but the families that choose to put their children at Play and Learn are simply…read morethe best! A great community and wonderful staff. They cultivate a real family environment while actually teaching age appropriate curriculum. I highly recommend Play and Learn Preschool.

I love Play & Learn Preschool. My family was transferred to the area and our kids have had several…read morepreschool placements due to moves (my son had 9 when I filled out his kindergarten registration) yikes! Anyway, this was the second one they attended in the area and I was in love with the smaller class size, gentle communication methods, tidiness, long term staff who truly love these kids. The owners are Christian and have infused teachings into the curriculum, which I love, but it is a respectful place that would not be uncomfortable for those who are not Christian as some of the families to bring their wee ones here are not. The school is divided into three classrooms - youngest kids (age 2) are in the Pollywog room, middle room is the Panda room and the think it is a big deal to move from Pollywogs to Pandas (which happens about age 3 and potty trained and they do potty train in partnership with parents in the Pollywog room) and oldest kids are in the Sunshine room and stay there until they launch out to kindergarten. I've had kids in every classroom now and we love it there; my daughter just turned 4 but fortunately with a late December birthday still has 2 more years at Play & Learn.

I was initially greeted by a friendly staff member who checked my temperature and provided me with…read morethe use of hand sanitizer before entering the school. I then proceeded to the front office where the people in the front were courteous and helpful. The school has a large playground and a small to medium campus. Overall it feels like the campus is a big community, staff is usually friendly in the hall ways. I asked where the restroom and a room was and they were quick to point me to one. I like that they have outdoorsy hallways especially during these Covid times. This was my first time on campus besides working next door in the preschool/headstart. Visiting the school I learned that previously the school was call South Fortuna Elementary and not until this year the school was renamed to Linell K. Walker Elementary Home of the Stars (their mascot) after a dearly beloved secretary fought hard with cancer for a second time. Rest In Peace! Your memory lives on with a school dedicated to you! Today I went to observe a teacher in her classroom. I found it interesting that the school keeps Safeway shopping carts on campus. I have never seen that in my many years teaching and observing many schools. I found this a bit odd and hilarious yet creative! The teachers mentioned that they are used to haul materials and things around. I have yet to visit this campus more often to give them a full on comprehensive review. I look forward to also hearing about the community/parents/students and their thoughts with the teachers/staff there.

I enrolled 4 of my kids right before school was to start and then our house was struck with COVID…read more With 3 people in our family actually becoming sick, there was a whole month we were in quarantine. When I called to let the school know about our situation, they immediately asked what could they do to help. They brought us a wonderful chicken soup! My kids started a month late and are doing fine! Thanks for making us feel we were part of the family!

Please consider another school for your child!…read more Pros: Very small school if your child doesn't like big crowds. Cons: The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teacher's don't treat you fairly or equally. Favoritism between the teacher's and students is a huge problem there. That school is extremely strict for the dumbest reason's. The Science teacher for the upper grades doesn't care to help his students at all in the classroom. He would give my class a new lesson out of the book and wouldn't go over it with us, so most of the time we failed because of him. Also he constantly would leave the classroom to talk about pointless things with the history teacher next door. The History teacher and English teacher for the upper grades are extremely RUDE except when parent's are present. The cafeteria is very small to the point that you are elbow to elbow with other people. It is annoying! The lunch staff are disrespectful! I overheard a lunch staff member talking poorly about a kids parent's. (I am not lying either) Oh, and if you don't eat a fruit say an apple and you throw it away they will pick through the trash cans to find ones that haven't been eaten. Gross! If you don't walk directly home, the fire chief John Broadstock will stalk you and pull over and tell you to go home if you are doing something else, but walking directly home. The office is ran by a bunch of kids parent's that don't even belong hanging out at the school because they aren't even member's of the staff. There is only one staff member that belongs there because she is employed at Scotia Elementary School. There is a lot of kids parent's that walk pointlessly around the school though without a name tag saying who they are, it just seems like they don't have anything better to do than to just walk around without a purpose for being there. Playing sports there is a JOKE! Most of the time they can't find coaches for any sport, so playing might not happen for some unless a parent that knows nothing about that specific sport volunteers and let me tell you it's a nightmare! NOTE: I could go on about other terrible things I've experienced at this school due to being a student for six years, but that would take too long! So here are some teacher's that are extremely friendly and helpful that your child or children will like. Dana Christine: The music teacher, she's very nice and she treats everyone equally. Monique Dominic: She is an aid for the lower grades, and she's friendly to everyone and will even go out of her way to talk to you one on one. Laurel Stokes and Angie Laloli: These two ladies are the resource teacher's and they have excellent attitudes and patience for every child that is in need of help there no matter how difficult the learning problem is. Carrol Owren: she's the third grade teacher and she's very friendly and really cares for her students. Those were some I listed that I actually remembered that were nice and not rude like the others. If you would like for me to tell you more about Scotia Elementary feel free to ask. Hope this helped you, everything on this review is the 100% truth. I am not lying about anything I said. Thank You!
