The Treasure Shack

The Treasure Shack

This place is wonderful hidden gem that certainly lives up to its name! I stumbled upon it after a…read moremonth-long search for an original Hoosier cupboard. Not wanting to drive to Ohio or Philadelphia to purchase one, I happened to call The Treasure Shack to see whether they had any in stock. I spoke with the gentleman who owns the Shack and he informed that he did, indeed, have a couple original Hoosiers in his store. He described them both to me in great detail and, based upon that conversation, I decided to drive out to Bridgeville and check them out. The moment I walked into this store, I knew I would be going home with more than a cupboard. The Shack is a well-curated little antique store that sells everything from mid-century furniture to (gorgeous) Imperial carnival glass to creepy little trinkets from the 1940s and 50s (i.e., wobbly clown toys). It's well organized, nicely decorated, and smells kinda like grandma's kitchen (in a good way). I ended up purchasing a Hoosier, as well as some glassware, after perusing the store and chatting with the owners for a couple minutes. (Side note: The owners are quite personable and very knowledgeable. They seemed more than happy to answer my random questions.) Even if you don't have something specific in mind, I recommend taking a couple minutes to browse the store if you're in the area. The selection is quite varied and the prices are more than reasonable. Needless to say, I definitely wasn't disappointed with my Treasure Shack experience, and the 25 minute drive to Bridgeville was worth every second.

Four floors of antiques with everything that you could ever expect in Pittsburgh!…read more This unassuming antique mall sits on the back side of Verona and doesn't really look like much would fit inside. However, as soon as you enter, you realize the sheer size and organization of the vendors and items. Welcomed with a greeting from the front counter employees, you immediately are whisked into stall after stall of treasures. As you move through, you realize that there are staircases hidden within and floor after floor of more and more. I have found some of my favorite booths... Pittsburgh Sports, Disney vintage, and some vendors who just seem to find those trinkets that interest everyone. And surprisingly, the vendors seem to always be adding more and new items to catch your eye. The value is up to the buyer. I always can find a few things to grab that are at a good price. But with so much inside, I'd be surprised if you wouldn't walk out with a bundle too.

There are 2.5 stories of antiques, with very reasonable prices (IMO). This was a great way to spend a few hours going from room to room, which had several booths in them. I failed to take pictures, but the offerings range from truly antique to more modern tchotchkes. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely come back
