As a secret shopper it's really a task to see if the review rumors are true.
Well to my dismay upon arrival there was limited parking. As I walked up I noticed a full barbershop. There were only two barbers and one empty barber chair. Outside looking in, I'd like to think it's a good thing to see a full shop. No, not at all. I came in on the wrong Saturday afternoon. I scoped out the shop for nearly 5 hours as I watched male after male get their hair cut. If I was a real client my day would be depleted. Moreover not once did any barber fully check on the customers! No one even looked up to notice me walk in or out, from time to time the barbers spoke to the regulars. I noticed not one of the barbers used healthy sanitation skills. The chairs were not sanitized after each customer. Just simply a dust off with the client drape.
So as a customer you end up sitting in a chair full of hair.
Then I noticed a young man walk around every so often to sweep hair with the filthiest pushbroom. The push broom was like an alien mop or something-hair was caked up on the bristles. Horrific!
I checked out the restroom..an unhealthy sight! Let's just say you'd be better off using the restroom at home. It looked like hells' rest stop! Black ring inside the toilet yuck! Unsightly. Toilet not ok. No soap no paper towels nothing was clean.
I sat back down in the hidden waiting area. It was hot and tiny flies were flying around probably due to the traffic in and out. I snuck out just to catch up with a few people gave them my contact and asked them to let me know about their experience.
One particular couple caught my attention. When they reached back out a few days later they told me that they had been waiting about 4 hours that day, and the head barber just said "whose next" no real acknowledgement. The client said the clippers pinched him but he wasn't sure if it was just the pressure of how the barber was holding the clippers so he didn't think nothing of it. Then he mentioned that the barber seemed to be in a rush of all the times he's gotten his hair cut this time seemed faster than normal and when he got home and shampooed his hair he noticed that the barber had cut his hair uneven and missed several spots that were supposed to be blended. This young man said he didn't want to call and complain because he wants to see black businesses do well but the service was not satisfactory and that he and his girlfriend won't be back, he even tipped the barber. It was late at night and the mirrors werent clean so it's hard to see imperfections to say something then. He also said his friend referred him and knows that his friend has made complaints but wanted to try him out anyways because the price was respectable. But it seems like it's a you get what you pay for barbershop if anything.
I feel as though the shop needs a revamp. Definitely water and or coffee station for clients cleaner restrooms with soap and drying towels. Women need a place to use the restroom comfortably too so a trash can for sanitary purposes.
The front mirrors need to be cleaned the stations need to be more presentable. The shop talk was amateur I wouldn't recommend high clientele here. Barbers need to exercise proper cleaning and sanitation and professionalism. I've visited other shops and never seen anything as unacceptable as this shop was that day. Hopefully they'll take heed to this review. Also pay attention to your customers and whose coming in and out make sure people are ok. With the heat and how temperatures rise is AZ water is a need. Maybe a better shop attendant. Hand out numbers or switch to appointments only or something more effective and efficient to keep wait times down and then the quality of the work will not be compromised. I will be back to see if things have changed. The next step is a BBB complaint.
