Another one walked me through what was on the table and where to find things. I appreciated their genuine assistance throughout my artwork. It was totally fun and doable for my friends who are not generally crafting people! The studio has great decorations and ambiance, Davina gave us glasses, glow in the dark hair clip, and a hat to take home with us. The final painting is so pretty and glows in the dark. Visited Flower Field on 3/30/14, Charity Wings Art Center had a booth at the event. They setup a…read moreL-shape table and a few staffs standing there teaching the visitors how to make flower with color fabrics. At first, I was standing on the side watching them. It looked very interesting so I decided to sit down and had some fun! One of the staffs, she already started teaching a younger girl (about 12-14 years old) and I sat right next to her . I felt being discriminated by the staff's attitude towards me. I wasn't sure if it was because the younger girl's age or because her parents were with her. For example, the staff would give her very detail instruction and even demonstrated how to do it. When it was my turn, she wasn't really put in effort to teach me. It was my first time learning how to do this too!! When I asked her questions, her reply was, "you can do whatever & be creative....."?? Huh? At least show me how to do it first , once I know it, I can be more creative later. When the younger girl and her parents were ready to leave, she told them about the company and give them a company brochure. I thought now she would have more time to focus on me. I was wrong... she started chatting with another staff about taking lunch break?? I was struggling how to make the fabrics look like "flower"!! I asked her, "I am having hard time making a flower shape???" She said to me, "You will get there eventually.....". Really??? If that is the way she is teaching the class, I will never recommend anyone to go there. When I stood up and ready to leave, she didn't talk about anything about the company or even gave me a brochure. I was very disappointed how different she treated me. I regret that I didn't ask for her name because I think it is important for the business owner, Elena Lai Etcheverty, to know about how her staff treat people differently. Visiting the art center in San Marcos as an individual or with a group. 3. Coordinating an event. I coordinated an event with them. They have a 6000 square foot warehouse very close to CSUSM on Industrial rd. It's easy to miss. Upon entering I was blown away by the plethora of art supplies. The people who work there will gladly give you a tour, explaining how everything was donated. I met Elena at CSUSM during while she was recruiting volunteers to make "letters of hope" for young women in the hospital with anorexia and for women in homeless shelters. I was intrigued, sat down and made a letter. I asked questions about the charity and I was blown away by the generosity of others. This meeting seemed like it was meant to be. I was planning a fundraiser event and needed a venue. Elena gave me her information and before I knew it I was planning a fun run and art project event with them. I mainly worked with Libbi, as Elena was busy. Libbi was so kind, helpful and was always on the same page as I. Having an event with Charity Wings was a WIN-WIN situation. I planned on charging for my event and had hoped for more in attendance. We didn't end up making any $ to contribute my specific charity, but we did donate to the Charity wings foundation with 25% of our proceeds. With that 25% we had access to the 6000 sq foot warehouse. We made a collaborative art project. We had a large picture and then small papers that each participant could decorate to add to the larger picture. They set out glitter, buttons, feathers, beads and markers to play with. Libbi and a few of the other staff took care of everything inside the warehouse and gave me free reign of the outdoor space, which is HUGE. We had a bounce house and two monitor speakers playing music. Someone participated in the fun run and suffered from heat illness, and they kindly took care of him until he felt better. Libbi is quite motherly. If I ever plan on having another event, I surely will do it here. Again, it's a Win-win situation. Stress free for sure. So for the other experiences, if you have a non-profit organization, you are able to go here and do art for free as a group, simply call ahead and plan your event. For other individuals: $10/hour regular adult, $8/hour student. They also have membership options $5/hour or $20 per day With admission you get access to all art supplies. This is definitely the place to go if you want to try out a new medium. The staff will guide and assist you as much to their knowledge will allow. They have pottery, metal working, paints, scrap booking, ect. They even have artists rental areas... I can't say anything negative about this place. I hope to work with Charity Wings again soon.

I've been to paint nights before and loved them. But unfortunately, I didn't love this one. This is…read moremy first time doing a paint night with YayMaker and I was super excited because the painting we had for Oct 4th looked beautiful. It was the "Rainbow Palm Tree". The paint night in particular was at the Hilton in Mission Valley. I'm not a fan of paying for parking especially when I'm already paying for other stuff on top of that unless it's a special occasion. This wasn't a special occasion for me, it was just an outing. So I parked in the street. Had I known that the people who parked in the self-parking had their parking covered, I would've parked there instead of in the street. Literally the instructor announced the parking situation at the end. I didn't see anything when signing up about it, but also I had the ticket sent to someone else's email because we were going together, so who knows, maybe they missed that email. But anyways we go inside and the lighting is soooo poor. I was confused as to how we were going to even see our colors blending, which we didn't. This resulted in me holding my phone for the whole two hours with the flashlight on in order to see my color scheme that was going on. It was honestly to the extent where you couldn't really even see what was going on in the front because of the poor lighting overall. Another reason I didn't like the experience was that there was toooo many people. I'm pretty sure it was around 50 people who attended, maybe even a bit more. With this many people you aren't able to get one-on-one time with the instructor which you are in other paint nights with diff companies that I've been to. With that many people there, it was also super squishy on the tables. I felt like I was a little tooooo close to my neighbors. This many people also led to not being able to see the canvas at the front well enough, since more people = more distance. You couldn't hear the instructor half the time with her microphone. And the paint night was literally in the lobby so it makes sense why you can't hear her. I'm not an artist, but the other paint nights I went to with other companies made me feel like one because of the pace that they go at and the one-on-one instruction between each step. The one thing I like about YayMaker is the raffle that they did. You pay $2 to enter a raffle to win a painting, and all proceeds go to an animal shelter in Oceanside. I came here to relax and destress but honestly walked out stressed and disappointed with how the whole paint night was set up.

(This should be enough info for Yaymaker to identify the instructor to give her credit). I cannot remember the instructor's name right now but she was really good. Of the 5 paint nights I have done (both from Yaymaker and another company), she was the only one to tell us to always leave the paint brushes in water when not in use). She gave us detailed step by step instructions and gave us some technique on strokes for the tree. She gave us the option of just doing a tree instead of a tree dress. She often said to raise our hands if we needed help or had questions. She was approachable and encouraging. She had cheerful holiday music and regular music playing in the background. The venue was great--large tables set up on two sides with the instructor and 2 paintings in the middle--one finished and one being painted. We had good elbow room too. (We also ate dinner at the hotel restaurant before hand so that was convenient). Parking was easy, plentiful, free, and just a few steps away. I will be coming back to this venue and to another Yaymaker event. I have done a total of 3 paint nights with Yaymaker.

She got there early to set up everything and she stayed late to clean up and put everything away. She put down a protective plastic sheet to cover tables, chairs, the floor, etc. She set up all the aprons, easels, paint brushes, water bowls, etc. Kimball gave us 2 paintings to choose from. She put on some music and we all started following her helpful instructions on our way to our masterpieces. She led us step by step to paint the beach scene. I had never painted or done one of these things. Kimball is very professional, nice, helpful, and patient. I definitely needed the most help out of everyone. There were 12 of us, and we only had an hour, and it got a little rushed at the end to paint the sign on the beach, but we got done. See posted pics of my masterpiece. This was a fun experience and I look forward to doing this again. If I can do it, anyone can do it. It was nice to do a relaxing stress relieving event at work.
