It has so much character and the architecture is gorgeous. Perfect for an elegant, black-tie wedding. The first day we met with Chelsea who was bubbly, personable, and professional. She made sure everything went smoothly with negotiations and the contract. From then on, she did a fantastic job with communication throughout the next year leading up to wedding day (we missed her on the night of our wedding, unfortunately!). I really love how cocktail hour is on the 2nd floor overlooking the rest of the venue -- it makes for great views and great pictures. The venue comfortably held and accommodated our 125 guests. The food was also fantastic. I've had some pretty below average and mediocre food at weddings, but not here. For cocktail hour, Finley Catering offers 8 passed Hors d'Oeuvres (the steak tartare and lamb chops were the star of the show in my opinion!) and 3 stations (we went with a hot seafood station, a cold seafood station, and an Italian station). The offerings that came with each station were great and had remarkable variety. Lobster tail, crab claws, oysters, to name a few! The filet mignon entree was also one of the better filets I've had. Throughout the night we were treated so well by every single employee we encountered. Everyone that was working at Union Trust was respectful, gracious, professional, and would go out of their way to make us or our guests happy. From the night of our wedding still to this day, we had and still have friends and family members coming to us telling us how much fun they had. Comments to us about how beautiful the venue was and how spectacular the food was were common coming from our guests. I keep telling my wife to convince someone to get married at Union Trust so I can experience a wedding here as a guest. I couldn't have imagined a better day and much of that is thanks to not only my wife for all of her meticulous planning, but also to Union Trust and Finley Catering for being such an incredible venue. The Down Town Club is located inside a very large building in Old City and takes up at least one floor. Once you're out of the elevator you are greeted by a giant glass table and a centerpiece. For the wedding, this table was used to hold the place cards, which informed you of the the table you would be seating at. Behind that table is a large hall with a few tables, a bar and some counters, which can be used to plate food and serve horderves. I suppose it could also be used as a simple waiting area. There is also a piano located i that area, which can be used to play some live music. The horderves, which were served were top notch. Some of my favorites included the lamb chops, lobster, shrimp and ravioli. I also loved how they had a full sushi bar along with some other traditional Japanese options including ahi tuna. The dinner and dessert was great as well. The dressing on the salad was very tasty and the filet minion was perfectly done. The dessert options here were out of the world. Mini-cupcakes, cannolis, funnel cake and more were all provided and they were all very delicious. The view of Independence Hall is absolutely spectacular as well. The Ball Room wasn't giant, but it easily held over 200 people without as if the room was, too crowded. The ball room was also quickly transformed from hosting the wedding ceremony towards become a place to hold a fun party. While I didn't use it, valet parking was available, which was a nice touch. Altogether, the Down Town Club is a very nice space to hold a variety of events including weddings!

That cosmic intervention finally happened for myself in the form of an invite to lunch by a friend of mine, and I was very excited about finally set my eyes upon the storied club. Following the exciting and quite long elevator ride to the top, I was surprised by how empty it was for lunch, but that only increased the appeal as it felt very exclusive and quiet. Let me start with that the food was good; very good in fact, but nothing special or to write home about. What really makes the place shine is the views, the feeling of exclusivity, and the staff. The staff is the real highlight and plays into every aspect of a great time here. You are treated as an honored guest from the minute you arrive until the minute you leave, and it is amplified if you are someone's guest they really put the effort in to treat everyone with the utmost respect and make the dining and relaxation experience at the price point that I am sure the members are paying for the opportunity. The views of the city are wonderful. Having worked a job that allowed me access to the roofs of nearly every high rise in the city, I have seen every angle and panorama of Philadelphia from up high, but the windowed seat views of the entire city while dining here are unparalleled. It is nothing if not the biggest selling point of the experience. I would love to return to see the view at night, but I don't think I will likely ever have that opportunity. If you have the luck of being invited here or given a chance at membership, check it out. It's one of the most unique places to eat in Market st financial area, and you won't regret it.

We decided to check out the Ukrainian League of Philadelphia after having an awesome meal at Morimoto (see my review)! We're happy to make the trek to check things out. We thought we'd be in and out after having a beer or two, but we were in for a treat. Tonight was jazz night. Not only was it jazz night, it was Ukrainian jazz night. The League has jazz night once monthly with an in-house trio but as the bass player advised us, he was lucky enough to be able to visit Ukraine several times and hook up with other jazz musicians. When he heard that they were coming to the United States but the west coast for a jazz festival, he asked them if they'd consider coming to Philadelphia for a night or two and they did. They had a rehearsal the day before, and played to a packed house at the Ukrainian League for a two hour set with no breaks consisting of alto, trumpet, guitar, upright bass, keyboard, and drums. The combo was tight and full of hot licks and kicks with all getting their turn in the spotlight. The leader of the band on the trumpet talked about each piece and how some of the atrocities he and his bandmates have had to deal with resulting in the inspirations for the different pieces of music. He even had a reinterpretation of an Ukrainian Folk song which they first played off his phone the original. However, this is about the Ukrainian League. Going down the stairs, you came to the door where you end up in a rectangle shaped room with a large bar along the right side, and banquettes and tall bar tables with chairs in the center and other side. There's also an old pool table but I don't know if it was operational. They have a lot of Ukrainian beer, but also a fully stocked bar with everything you could want. And the drinks are cheap. $4 for a Captain and Coke. The people who came in after we did all seemed to be regulars and the Ukrainian language filled the air. My friend and I were not the youngest in the place, either. My only knock was after the two hour set of jazz, my ass was on fire in the very uncomfortable seats. The Ukrainian League also has open mic nights, movie nights, and sponsors other special nights. They also sell frozen pierogis! Overall, my friend and I had a great night listening to jazz and having some cheap drinks. We'd like to come back!
