The vibrant work of Rasika Reddy caught my eye in the window so we went inside. The space was small and intimate and the gallery owner (and assistant) were both gracious and welcoming... Gallery 51 says they showcase a new artist every few months. If you are ever in Montclair and have the time, it is worth passing by to have a look. There is also a lovely flower shop and a very nice beading & craft store a few doors down... a sweet trifecta of aesthetic and creative goodness on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Went for their "Open Studios" day, where they have all five floors open to the public. The artists are there hanging out and talking to visitors while displaying their art work. I believe they have this twice a year; unsure, don't quote me! Really cool and unique artwork! Awesome art mediums, each so different from the rest. Went again for their "annual art sale" on December 8th. They also have different events throughout the year. I remember a while back, I heard that they hosted yoga classes, not sure if that is still going on. Will ask next time I visit!

The Akwaaba Gallery is a diamond in the rough, a wonderful location for the art appreciator. In…read moretwi, akwaaba means "welcome" and I am pleased to say it lives up to its namesake. The building is made from an older house but feels very modern and it's renovation would tell otherwise, save for tasteful aged brick. Here for a selection of pieces, particularly Rachel Beck's work, the gallery showcased wonderful manifestations of the human gaze and spirit. The patio behind the building is a wonderful space to socialize in a comfortable, green and airy space. Altogether, the location is fantastic and I would recommend for any art and artist!

I went in not exactly knowing what to expect for my tattoo, but when he showed me the drawing, it was EXACTLY what I had described in my intake form. The shop is beautiful. Wide open space, clean bathrooms, beautiful plants, comfy chairs, and kind people. Josh was quick, helpful, informative, and the tattoo was *relatively* painless compared to my previous ones. He let me lay down, put in headphones, and relax during the process. I couldn't be happier!
