My favorite place to eat at Fort Apache. Everything I have had is delicious and the food is healthy here. However, you do have to wait as food is prepared to ordered but worth it. Place is cozy and clean. I highly recommend this place if your ever in the area.

But once you walk through the door everything behind you fades into a distant memory and a warm, inviting, small but immaculate restaurant with an absolutely stunning open kitchen envelopes you. Chef Nephi and his amazing crew stand ready to amaze and delight with highly refined highly curated and Indigenous Western Apache influenced meals. Typically this location is only open for breakfast and lunch, but every other Friday Cafe Gozhóó closes for lunch service and offers a five to six course tasting dinner. I've had lunch multiple times and also was able to attend one of his tasting dinners. Seating is extremely limited for these dinners and typically sell out in less than 30 minutes to an hour and there's a reason for that. The final coup de gras, elevating this restaurant beyond just phenomenal dining experience is the fact that it is part of the Apache Rainbow Treatment center - employing individuals who are part of the program, with so many positive benefits including job skills, self-worth, focus, direction and pride. One of the most obvious aspects is how much pride all of the individuals working their take- it sincerely is not only palpable but beautiful. I'm not sure how many more characters I have before it tells me I can't keep babbling so I will say I've never had a bad or even mediocre or even average meal here. Absolutely everything is delicious. My favorite for lunch is the Thunderbird. The Apache coffee service is to die for. The pinion cannolis are crazy delicious.. I've never found anyone that can make pinion flavor the star of the show in such an eloquent way much less a dessert! In my less than humble but always outspoken opinion, and after visiting a Palm Springs Michelin star restaurant last night and being completely underwhelmed, one of the Diamonds in the Rough that does deserve a Michelin star is this location. Thank you Chef Nephi.

The level, quality and presentation of the humble 8ish item menu would stand up to any 5 star hotel cafe. The menu is thoughtful, creative, healthful and is rooted in and with the Apache culture. To top it off he also employs local individuals who have gone through a rehab program, giving back to his community and making a difference. To say Cafe Gozhoo has some "magic' sounds cliche, but do yourself a favor, watch the documentary, "Gather" then make the drive. You won't be disappointed. Great customer service, clean and healthy food with a great story and even better mission. NOTE: address on website is incorrect; the right address is; 5624 N Chief Ave., Whiteriver, AZ.

At first I was a little surprised at their limited menu... but here's the thing... they do it well. I actually realized I preferred that.. if you can nail the items you do offer... so worth it. We got the French Dip sandwich (side of horseradish and au jous), chicken sandwich, hamburger, cheeseburger, chicken tenders and fries, and the special soup of the day - beef stew. Ok, guys, the beef stew... I'm going to be dreaming about it. It has their prime rib and drippings in it and thr flavor is amazing. We got one cup and my family helped me eat it so I got a second cup. Everything was delicious. One of my sons got the chicken sandwich with coleslaw. Coleslaw is so hit or miss... but this was a hit. There wasn't anything we didnt enjoy. The chicken was a nice thick cut, had amazing seasoning in the breading and was perfectly fried. The hamburgers I got medium and they were also cooked well. I would highly recommend this place. I think I'll be dreaming of that stew...

When we learned that Sweetheart had closed and Monica's Cafe had taken over, we decided to make the drive while visiting Show Low from Gilbert during a forest vacation. The decor was modest, rustic, and charming, with a blend of Native American touches and old country western character. The walls were minimalist, but in a way that felt intentional. It did not need to try too hard. As a vegetarian, trying a new restaurant is always a bit of a gamble. You never know whether food is cooked in oil or lard, whether rice or soup has meat-based stock, or whether something that looks vegetarian has hidden meat worked into it somewhere. It can be a tricky line to walk. We drove about 30 minutes to Monica's Cafe hoping for a good meal, and this place absolutely did not disappoint. Honestly, I think the reason the place feels so simple is because they have clearly put their energy where it matters most: the food. I ordered the veggie omelet with added tomatoes, a side of hollandaise sauce, and a pancake on the side. It was surprisingly excellent. After nearly every bite, I kept thinking that the food from this small cafe should not be this good. Everything was flavorful, satisfying, and far exceeded expectations. Next time we are in the area, we will absolutely be coming back. I definitely recommend Monica's Cafe to anyone looking for a great meal in Show Low.
