Before my lessons with Mr. Ish, the only driving experience I had as a 36 year old was some parking lot practice, and a one hour lesson with a different school (which I didn't think was very helpful so I didn't continue). I took 5 lessons of 2 hours each (10 hours total) with him and found him to be an incredibly patient and supportive instructor. I had a lot of anxiety going into the whole process, and his calm presence always put me at ease and made me more confident. When I would make a mistake like making too wide of a turn into a streeet, he would point it out but also ask me why I did it that way. It felt like he really wanted to get to the root of the issue to help fix it. In the case of turning too wide, we realized that I was misjudging the distance of my car from the parked cars on the street. This thoughtful approach really helped diagnose and correct issues as they came up and it was so satisfying to visibly see myself improve. His approach to teaching parallel parking was super clear, and I was able to confidently parallel park during the test, and have now also done it in relatively tight spots on DC streets! He also recommended doing a last lesson right before the test in the Deanwood neighborhood (where the DMV test takes place). This was great advice, and Mr. Teddy accommodated me for a pre-test lesson on short notice. I used the school's car for the test, which was helpful since I was familiar with it. The day of the test there was a really long wait at the DMV and Mr. Teddy waited with me patiently and was also really supportive. All the communication and reminders from the school about lesson times, locations were timely and clear, Mr. Ish was always on time for picking me up, and it was just a seamless experience end to end.

The 2-week program they provide is easy and you can pass if you have common sense. Once I was done with my class, I tried scheduling my behind the wheel (I paid $395 (I think) for the virtual class + 3 behind the wheel lessons), and got a date for June 8th as my initial drive. I asked the person I was scheduling with to put me on a standby list for any people that cancelled their BTW's, shoutout Jatziri, I was able to knock out all my BTW lessons before my "initial appointment". This school is very good and I decided to trust it even through they had bad reviews, this school changed a lot. Thank you to Mr. Davis, Mr. Devon, Ms. Paola, and Mr. Lewis as well as Jatziri for making this process easier! Definitely would recommend to friends & family.

When taking virtual courses make sure that your attendance and exam scores are accurate. Also, it will take months to schedule the behind the wheel training and you will not receive a response from the school via phone or email. They will schedule one behind the wheel training and then never respond or follow up in relation to scheduling the additional appointments. Also, some of my child's paperwork was lost so be attentive in relation to the record keeping. Per other reviews, they take on too many customers and don't have enough instructors to handle the training. Sign up with a different driving school if you don't want to wait forever to get your license.

The instructor is nice enough, however…read moreif you are at work all day then get to a 6-9 pm class, you want to get started on time to leave on time. The problem I have is offer a class in english or spanish--not both. So imagine being instructed in English, then the teacher having to stop every 5 minutes to translate. Then when he did not know the spanish, he would ask other students to translate for him. It was a mess and surely all this back and forth translating loses some of the message. They can do better in that aspect. That was my main issue because after working all day, I went in ready to go, but we worked at a snail's pace due to the amount of non english speakers in the class. I did pass the road test bc the driving instructor was pretty good and provided good enough instruction behind the wheel. There were a few occasions where I was picked up and taken to locations for practice where we could not practice because it was a poor choice of a location and it was a very busy parking lot, so we ended up wasting most of the lesson having to move out of the way. But they are decent, and offer payment plans.

DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR TAG & TITLE SERVICES! I went to them to get my car titled in January…read morehoping to simplify the process. I should have just went to the MVA. Months later, while attempting to fix an issue with my car, I ran into some difficulty with fixing the relatively simple issue online. So I go into the MVA and attempt to use the kiosk so that I can scan my registration to no avail. Upon speaking to an attendant at the MVA I learn that the reason for my issue is that my title DOESN'T EXIST due to the fact that the required paperwork was never sent over. At which point, I return to Drive Smart hoping to fix this little mix up only to initially have the staff insist that I must not have used their services so its not their problem. Once they actually deigned to look however, they discovered that this was, in fact, a title that they had issued. They then claimed that it probably wasn't their fault but they would resend the information so I let it slide and went about my life. And then I receive a letter from the MVA concerning the first issue so I go back in (believing my titling issues should be resolved) and attempt to correct the issue, which proves impossible for THE SAME REASON. I call them again, still patient, and they insist they will be sending the information over, calling the mva, whatever is necessary to fix the issue. Fast forward a few months. It's time to renew my registration and to that, the initial issue must be fixed. I go in again. Once again, I am told that the required documentation was never sent through. I STILL don't have a title. I call him back to have him again instead that it's not his fault, it's that of the MVA. Not once have I received an apology for this error nor any proof that he is doing what he says he is. Save yourself some time and a headache and just go to the MVA. It will be annoying but it you'll at least get the service you're paying for.

The only thing I wish she did was go over the answers we got wrong on our daily quiz. The class consists of reading and answering questions from the workbook that is provided to us. Then she shows us videos in relation to the lesson of that day. At the end of class, we are quizzed out of 10 questions. What's also great about this class, is that you get 3 free behind-the-wheel lessons grom Mr. Rotimi. He gives you great tips about how to operate your car. He taught me how to park backwards without using the rearview camera and later, how parallel park (something I thought I could never do)! Because of this class, I was able to obtain my Learner's Permit on my first attempt at the MVA!! If you happen to miss a day, they let you make up for it the next time they teach the lesson you've missed.

As a 33 year old Mom of 2 I was terrified and very nervous about being on the road. Gilbert instantly put me at ease and I passed my test 1st try yesterday after 3 weeks of lessons.
