Aharn Thai had recently been awarded the excellence award - 'new restaurant - suburban south &…read moreeast. It had been trading since November 2014. The restaurant is situated in a small group of shops and be aware of the car parking space in the front with half hour limits between 9am and 9pm. Dinner time on a mid weeknight and the restaurant is more than half full, we were shown to our table which is nicely spaced from the others. In the larger dining room, there are a couple large round tables in the corner which cater for big groups. The smaller dining area as you enter accommodated 2s and 4s, well spaced as well. Deco is clean and fresh with couple of big paintings on the walls. I liked the screen of sticks which separated the entry and dining room with decorative pots at one end. Food - as there are only the two of us which really limits the choices for sharing, nevertheless, we had one entree and 2 mains to share and that was plenty. The servings were generous especially the fish dish which we ordered. Our entree of duck salad was fresh and flavoursome, the sweet, sour and heat were all there, perhaps the chillies could have been cut back but I think it was good as an entree to get the senses going and to expect what's to follow! The signature dish of grilled chicken with green papaya and carrot salad live up to expectation. The chicken was moist and the salad was well balanced. The first mouthful of a bit of chicken, salad and accompanied by warm sticky rice was just sensational. Just wished the sticky rice can stay warm till the end of our last mouthful of the dish. The steam salmon in savoury custard was a bit too runny for my liking and the custard had separated with over cooked 'egg', but it tasted great, in fact, I was glad of the 'sauce' in the end to douse my rice like a good curry does. We left without sampling desserts which were mainly ice cream and sticky rice. The rainbow ice cream bar of strawberry, coconut, pandan and orange sounds a great combination, looks like I'll be back one day. I'll try the curries then as well.

This place was amazing. Cannot stop thinking about the meal I ate here…read more We started with an entree of prawn tom yum and the spices were perfectly balanced. Best tom yum I have eaten. Then I had the chicken Chu Chi Curry. The chicken was amazing, the spices worked well and while I would have liked more vegetables I still loved this. Everyone at the table was happy with their meal, we were in a group of 6 and all had entree and main so they did a good job to have no complaints. The decor is nice enough and the staff are attentive. The toilets are outside and around the back of the building. I will be back here when I am in the area. Loved this place!

Overall food was excellent and good value, both food and beverage wise. There were 5 of us and we shared 5 dishes with steam rice, we could have done with just 4 dishes as the serves were generous. My favourite was mossaman beef, the meat just fell apart as you bite into it and the flavour, it was all there with the right heat, such comforting dish. Potatoes bulk the bowl up but was good accompaniment. Green curry chicken, the bowl was full to the bream with breast meat, still tender and not dry, not much kick for an Asian palate but suffice. The Choo chi vegetable was my next fav, nice milky sauce and plenty of it, variety of vegetables and tofu. Would have satisfied a vegetarian. The sweet pork dish was so so and would have kept a novice happy, once again the serve was generous Pad Thai would normally indicates how good a Thai restaurant is by this dish, but we have been spoilt with good 'pad Thais' out there and this would be 5/10 from me. So surprising as other dishes were great. We finished with 2 serves of steamed banana sticky rice with mango ice cream to share amongst us, we could have done without but it was a nice finish to the meal. I didn't see the menu and let the others did the ordering, with a bottle of wine and 2 beers, it was well less than $30 per head with a bit of tips. Staff were friendly enough for a busy Friday night and there were early diners. There were 2 dinning areas and a 'sitting - waiting' area at the reception area There are plenty of outside seatings when weather permits, and limited car parks at rear. They didn't mind us leaving our cars there when we went to the movies after dinner, very convenient indeed.

Patrons in the restaurant appeared to be second fiddle. Brought wine with us but had to ask for glasses after 1/2 an hour or so. Once eaten last one arrived. Now 9pm. And they had the audacity to charge us corkage. Thank heavens the food was good.

The duck was cooked perfectly with sweet pineapple, perfect fruity cherry tomatoes only just blistered, red capsicum, lychees, beans and peas. The duck was outstanding - perhaps even up there with my top picks for red curry duck :). We had the rice with egg as a side dish and it was just ok. Overall we agreed that we couldn't justify the cost... the very mean prawn dish & the chewy fish cakes really let them down. We found ourselves talking about everything else we could have bought for $75.

That was three+ years ago now, and as I write this my mouth is watering, quite literally, for their fishcakes. If there's a category for entree perfection on a plate, the fishcakes are there. *DO NOT* visit here without trying them. Decor is... well... typical thai... so's the menu - lemongrass and chilli and lime leaves in abundance. You know what? I never had one dish there that I wouldn't happily jump at the chance to have all over again. The serves are a decent size, the service is good, the restaurant is nice - but none of that is anything compared to the food. Recommended. P.S. Sister restaurant to Madame Wu's on the Parade in Norwood - if you like the food here, you'll like the food there, too.

The place was almost empty when we arrived but we were almost turned away because they were fully booked. Who would have thought! However, they managed to squeeze us in and we were grateful because the experience was memorable. The dining area is quite small with only 12 or so tables, but by the time we had eaten and were about to leave the places was full. The waitresses are nice and it is all table service which is great. The menu is expansive and I would definitely recommending trying their range of satay products which are dripping in the best satay sauce I have had in a long time. The meal sizes are reasonable and although my boyfriend was still hungry afterwards (such a boy), I was ready to burst my dress. There is also a takeout option available and we saw quite a number of people duck in and grab their takeout phone orders. The prices are also very reasonable, for a two person meal with entrée and two drinks it came to just over $50 which is less than we expected. Thumbs up!
