My wife and I were craving some Asian food on our trip to Chicago from LA and found this AYCE hot pot place and decided to give it a try. It blew our expectations away! To jump right into it, we were able to choose three different broths for our pot.. THREE! We've been to many hot pot restaurants over the years and this was the first one that allowed us to choose three at a time. We asked the waiter for his recommendation and all of them were great. The meat selection is also pretty standard: beef, lamb, chicken, etc. and all were pretty tasty and had just the right amount of marbling. What surprised us was that they had a full bar of veggies, hot and fried food, fruit, teas, sauces, AND ice cream. The best part? They were all included in the very affordable $26 weekday lunch price. I'm not sure if the price varies on the weekend but that's a freaking steal. After having tried multiple broths, our favorites are: pepper pork tribe with chicken soup broth (a fresh, clean broth), beef in sour soup (tangy) and Chong Qing medium spicy (spiceeee). The food at Aroma Hotpot is great, and I love the different kinds of soup bases you can do. You can do up to 3 different types without any additional costs! We love getting the congee one, but this one can only be done with 2 bases. The spicy base is our other go to, but be warned that it can be very spicy! The meats, carbs, and veggie selection are all high quality, and I love that they have some hot foods as well (fried rice and noodles) The service was great every time we've gone so far. Our recent experience with the service was perfect since he always checked up on us and asked if we needed anything. He would also clear any dirty plates almost immediately. The price seems pretty affordable for AYCE at $30, but they gave us a $5 discount for coming during lunch even though we came towards the end of the lunch special. That was super thoughtful of them! The ambiance is very pretty since it has a lot of red Chinese decor. Everything seems very clean, and I think the bonus here is that there's a soda machine that comes with unlimited refills with your meal. read more

Food was yummy! The variety they had was delicious and I loved how there were multiple options for desserts! Sauce bar also had a lot of options. The short rib plate of meat was my favorite, and I think overall we didnt like the spicy marinated beef or garlic marinated beef. The pre made foods were also really good (like the dan dan noodles and fried chicken). Tomato broth and mushroom broth were really good! The spicy broth (low level) was spicier than we thought. I did think their sauces tasted a bit different than what I was used to tho so I ended up not using any. Service was good! The servers were SUPER quick with bringing out the meat and also super quick with removing plates and checking in on us. Really good service I felt like they were incredibly attentive! Store vibes are nice, I love the style of the restaurant itself. The only thing is I wish the tables were a little bigger since theres so much food to throw in for hot pot! read more

Since it's still been cold in Chicago lately, my mom and I have been trying different hotpot restaurants. Aroma was next on the list. Here they have pots that separate up to 3 broths. I thought that was nice to try out tons of broths and see what you like. We don't like spicy hotpot so we opted for two kinds of chicken broth and mushroom broth. It was sort of empty when we got there around 5pm but filled up slowly as dinner time crept up. They sat us fast. It was very easy to get my sauce made, pick up whatever cold bar food, and get some pop to drink. They were constantly refilling all the items at all the bars. My worry for this is that it's small and since they were constantly refilling items, if it were super busy, then I would probably not have much to get to eat with the meats I ordered. They were very attentive. The most attentive hotpot staff that I've experience so that's good! I also thought the layout of the tables and the side table to hold more dishes was good! They had napkins stocked on the sides so I didn't have to ask for them. I like when practical dining is figured out for me. I think it could be cleaner around the sauce and hot food bar. I also wish the pop was included in the AYCE price. Other than that, it was a good experience. read more

Great options here! Premium ayce is not a bad price and you get crab legs!! Service is quick and the veg and starch is buffet style so serve yourself. The vibe is cozy and I love that you can pick 3 flavors too. Their tomato is solid and the collagen chicken and the spicy level 3 is perfection!!! read more

The staff is nice but we found that the items weren't replenished or as of good quality. The inside looks average but it's just a place to get your cravings satisfied. Everything was so delicious and the staff was so kind!! Definitely recommend. This was our first hot pot experience and our waitress was very patient and explained everything to us. If you've never tried it before, this is a good place to come to, as the steps are pretty easy to understand! My favorite was the pork belly and my friends loved the lamb. Amazing food and service! The last hotpot (congee pot) is a must try! After adding seafood, it becomes the most flavorful congee! And the other sour beef broth was also so satisfying, and I loved the lean beef cuts. Desserts (green bean soup and white fungus soup) are both so good after the meal. Pretty disappointed with my experience at Aroma. Hot pot is my favorite meal of all time - and I am a regular at Happy Lamb. Last night, I found myself at Aroma as I had a late night hot pot craving, past the hours of operation of my usual spot. Thought I'd try something new! It was not only the generally unpleasant service where we felt that we were inconveniencing our server, but the quality of the food simply missed the mark. The broths themselves were excessively oily and lacking flavor. I was also disappointed that the buffet did not offer plain white rice - a pretty standard side dish for hot pot. The sauce station was limited, as was the buffet in general. What might be most concerning about the buffet was the hygienic standards, as tongs used to grab meats/seafood were being used to grab vegetables, introducing a risk for contamination. This morning, my boyfriend and I woke up feeling sick to our stomachs and have spent considerable amounts of time in the bathroom. Save your time, your money, and your health, and go to Happy Lamb Hot Pot - consistent and delicious every time. They have AYCE and it's so much better. read more

Very MISLEADING. NOT GOOD. The food was tasty. But the menu was a bit misleading. The menu said the price could be either $29.99 per person or $34.99 per person. However, in tiny letters at the top corner of the menu, it said "$2.99 for Broth, Sauces, Drink". You can't have a hot pot meal without the broth. What this means is that the menus are misleading about the price per person. The actual price per person is $32.98 or $37.98. Very MISLEADING, even though it was just a few dollars more. Another issue was that after you got started eating, and they start flooding in with the meats and broth. We found a little sign that said they would charge you %50 more on any food that is placed at your table and not eaten. The issue is that they just keep bringing food even though you haven't asked for it. Then, when you realize that you have way too much food, they tell you NOT allowed to take it with you. Another issue is that they start telling you that they will charge you for a second meal per person if you stay longer than 1.45 minutes. We had gotten together with family and got to talking, and they wanted to charge us again. So we kinda got kicked out. read more
