Pad Thai Noodle

We tried this place for 2 reasons. The first was that we were told that we could park in the Pavilions lot. When we arrived, there were big threatening signs stating we would be towed unless we were going to Pavilions. We were lucky to get a spot on the street. The second is because it was recommended. On the hottest day of the year, they did not have any air conditioning. There were 2 big fans, one on each side of the restaurant. I I didn't expect this to ever happen in La Jolla! We were there before happy hour ended. So we ordered 2 starters. The edamame with garlic was good. The summer rolls were more like egg or spring rolls-fried. The sauce was very spicy. Next we ordered pineapple fried rice with pork. The pork was dry and the rest of the dish was very bland our last dish was pad Thai with shrimp. The dish was very sweet. I never had it prepared like that and didn't expect that sweetness. For 2 main courses, they gave us one spoon. The happy hour only has beer discounted. The server did not mention that we could order any other alcohol until we asked. The atmosphere is very shabby and dark. It is very tired and is in great need of a refresh. It is a very small place with one long table in the middle and several tables on the side. The one compliment that I can give is that there is a very nice, clean restroom for customer use. Other than that, we were disappointed.

AROI THAI @ LA JOLLA parking is available in their plaza and it's open to anyone visiting the shops there. my friends and i came on a sunday night, and i had actually been to their carlsbad location before, so i was excited to try the la jolla one. when you first walk in, the entrance is a little confusing since the staircase is only on the left side, so you kind of have to go around to find it. once you get upstairs, the restaurant is on your left. inside, it has a really cozy, family-style vibe. we were seated right away and the staff was super friendly. they even offered free thai tea if you leave a google or yelp review, which was a nice touch. for food, i got the pad see ew with combo meat (chicken, beef, and pork), which i loved because i like trying different proteins in one dish. my boyfriend got the pad kee mao (drunken noodles), which has wider noodles, a slightly different sauce, and bell peppers. my friend ordered the crispy pork with basil over rice, and that looked really good too. overall, i'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in la jolla and craving thai food. it is a bit on the pricier side (around $20 per dish), but the food and ambiance make it worth it.

Tried Aroi recently and overall it was a good experience! We ordered the tom yum, pad thai, and yellow curry. I liked that they let you choose spice levels from 1-10, but I did notice the spice felt a bit inconsistent across dishes. The pad thai was actually the spiciest even though we only chose level 5, so just a heads up if you're sensitive to spice. I think I would've enjoyed it even more at a slightly lower level, so that one's on me. The tom yum soup had great flavor, though it leaned a little sweeter than I personally prefer. The Thai tea was solid, but not very sweet, which made it taste a bit watered down to me. Overall still a good spot, just something to keep in mind with spice levels and sweetness preferences :)

If you're in la Jolla craving Thai Food, Aroi it's definitely worth a stop just come hungry because there's a lot to try What we ordered: * Crispy Pork with Basil - 5/5 This was honestly unexpected. I thought the pork belly might be dry, but it was the exact opposite super juicy, flavorful, and easily one of our favorite dishes of the night. The fried egg on top just brought everything together. * Papaya Salad - 3/5 We got it at level 3 spice and the flavor was spot on. Super refreshing and perfect for cutting through the heavier, greasier dishes. * Crying Tiger Salad - 2/5 I've had their crying tiger before and loved it, but this time the steak wasn't very tender. Flavor was still there, but compared to everything else, this one fell short. * Tom Yum Soup (seafood) - 3/5 Good for what it was--reminded me a lot of Vietnamese sweet and sour soup. Solid, but nothing super memorable. * Drunken Noodles (beef) - 5/5 Another favorite of the night. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you're craving drunken noodles. * Thai Boat Noodles (beef) - 2/5 It was alright, but I've definitely had better elsewhere, so this one didn't stand out. * Pad Thai (shrimp) - 4/5 You can't have Thai night without pad thai. This one was good and satisfying, just nothing particularly special. * Mango Sticky Rice - 3/5 Nice way to end the meal, but pretty standard. * Thai Iced Tea - 5/5 SO good. Definitely a must order. Overall: Service was super fast we spent more time deciding what to order than waiting for the food to come out. The space is on the smaller side, so it might be tricky for bigger groups, but the food and efficiency make up for it. If you're in the area, I'd definitely check them out!

I've been here a few times before but always for take-out. This was our first time dining in and loved it even more! My party of eight was seated immediately and enjoyed our private dining area. We started with iced coffees, Thai teas, and a few appetizers. We have two vegans in our party and they both claimed that they just had the best vegan meal ever. Our meaty dishes were pad prik king, papa's noodles, pumpkin curry, panang curry, crab fried rice, and more. Every dish was delicious and customized to the diner's spice level. Kudos to our waitress who constantly refilled our drinks, delivered dishes in a timely manner, and quickly removed empty dishes. Can't wait to eat here again!

The chicken curry, drunken noodles , coconut water & mango sticky rice was so delicious! The food just melted in my mouth , the drink was so refreshing! typically there's a generalization that food isn't at its best before closing, this restaurant proved me wrong . I definitely recommend going the staff was very friendly and service was quick .

Drunken Noodles

One of my favorite Thai restaurants. I was in the mood for something different so I got Khao Soi chicken. It's essentially an egg noodle dish in very thick curry. A traditional northern Thai dish and was made popular by tourists who have been to Chiangmai. You typically eat it with fresh veggies and pickled cabbage. The pickled cabbage goes really well with the thick curry. Khao Soi was yummy. Some of the noodle is deep fried and gives different texture when soaked in the curry sauce. I definitely enjoy the dish. My friend ordered chicken drunken noodle and larb. Both dishes were great as usual. It was really hard for us to not overeat but we mustered up all of our self control and packed the leftover food home. They typically make really good stir fried noodle. So if you love Pad See Ew or drunken noodle, really give this place a try. Other dishes are good too but stir fried noodle is really the best.

My friends and I came here after tidepooling in La Jolla and it was honestly pretty good! It wasn't too busy so we were seated immediately. The food came out pretty fast as well. Their pad see ew is slightly sweeter than other places I've been to. I am not a spice lover, so a 3/10 spice level was perfect if you want just a little kick.

Green Curry with chicken. Spicy fried rice with beef. Drunken noodle with shrimp.

Back again for the second time. This time around i brought my family with me. Once again I ordered the green curry and drunken noodles but also opted for the masaman curry this time. Service and atmosphere is still great, and they have a really strong air conditioning which is great for the hot weather here!

Food was light , fresh and tasty! Enjoyed sitting in the outside patio area. Service was fast and friendly!

My favorite Thai restaurant in the San Diego area. Always hits--as a vegetarian I'm never left unsatisfied the choice between steamed and fried tofu is perfect

Pork Ribs Crispy Pork w/ Basil

Is my first time and food was delicious I will come back for sure Sizzling Thai braised pork ribs Service

Vegetable fried rice
Reina A.

The food was delicious. We shared the fried shrimp appetizer and I had the vegetable fried rice and hubby had the shrimp fried rice. The ginger lemonade was really refreshing. We visited on a Sunday evening at about 5pm and there was a steady stream of people coming in and by the time we left there was a full house. The servers were very kind, but it was very busy for two people handling orders for dining in and pick ups. When in La Jolla I will definitely come back.

The entrees were good portions and delicious -- Shrimp Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles with Chicken, and Spicy Basil Beef. Spice levels were good (7 for noodles, 5 for pad Thai, 6 for spicy beef). We like spicy food so we could have gone up 1-2 levels more and it would have been just right! We ordered 2 Mango with sticky rice dessert for the three of us and got another one to go! That's how delicious it was. We had a lot of leftovers for 2 college students (lol), so it worked out great! Will definitely come back!

It never ceases to amaze me that Thai chefs can make fish sauce taste good. - My wife said the pad see ew was some of the best she's ever had. Service. It was all right. Courteous and fast. The fast kind of counts against them because we asked for my wife's appetizers at the same time as my soup, and they agreed but instead they brought them out right away. Not a big deal, all told. Don't miss stopping at Jaybird Superette next door, a quirky little store with wine, cheese, and more... so you can drive five minutes over to Mount Soledad Memorial Park after dinner, uncork it, and watch the sun dive into the great blue sea.

Getting forgetful and lazy in Yelp years???? This was a find grown out of my kids attending UCSD. We love Thai and when we would visit this is a few minutes away from campus. Service has always been super friendly and quick. We've been here on quiet days and days when the restaurant was packed. Even when we had our kids' grad lunch with about 20 family members and there were other celebrations going on service and food quality never skipped a beat. We've grown accustomed to our favorite Thai dishes so typically it's pad see ew, drunken noodles, Tom Yum soup, and fresh spring rolls. One dish that I discovered here is Crispy Pork Belly and Cabbage. Highly recommend that one. They cater to dietary needs and will adjust spice levels to your liking. They are serious about their spice levels. One daughter truly loves her spice but even she will say medium is pushing it. It's in a shopping center with ample parking near Sprouts. Inside is nicely decorated. Dark wood. Combination of tables and booths. Obviously can host large groups. If you enjoy Thai, add AAHARN to your places to try!

The second time I came back and ordered the exact same thing and it was meh. Plus, the a/c was down so the door was open and they were redecorating so there was construction noise so I figured I'd give them another shot. It's a mom and pop after all and the servers are very friendly. The third time I tried it, it was incredibly noisy and my mom didn't feel well after her meal and I was incredibly disappointed because I had requested #2 spice level and to me it tasted like a 7 or 8 spice. We were in a hurry so I didn't have time to have them fix it. Today I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, no egg. They asked the spice level and nailed it. But the food was just average. It wasn't bad but it wasn't something I would consider memorable. The fresh rolls had mostly bean sprouts. It had maybe one or two strands of carrot and no cucumber. The peanut sauce was on point, however the peanut dressing on the salad that came with my lunch special tasted watered down. I wish this place were more consistent and could make that same dreamy Panang curry every time and that all of their dishes would be as good as that meal. If you live in the neighborhood it might be a convenient Thai restaurant but know that it's likely to be hit or miss. If you don't live in the area, you might want to think twice unless you are ok with an average meal.

The nearby curbside parking situation was quite easy this time probably because the rain had kept people inside. I remembered that the seating capacity used to be larger than what it is now which was only sufficient for about 10 diners. It could be a reflection that the vast majority of their business was from takeout orders. There was a laminated two-page menu sheet at the service counter. Appetizers, soups, and salads were listed on one side. The other side displayed the chef specialties, curries, entrees, fried rice, noodles, sides, drinks, and desserts. At least half a dozen dishes had an X mark next to them which meant they were unavailable. From the four Fried Rice choices, I picked the Crabby version ($22). Jasmine rice, egg, spring onions, garlic, and real crab meat were the ingredients along with Thai seasoning. When the item was rung up on the register, it was priced at $24. I don't know why there was a discrepancy, but I didn't want to initiate a dispute so I kept quiet. I took a seat at a table and soon afterward, a bowl containing the contents was brought out. The rice was steaming hot. I asked for mild spiciness at level three, however it had more kick than I expected and left a buzz on my palate. The portion size was good, but not for $24 which was the most expensive I have seen for a crab variety. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dinner at Hot or Not Thai.
