Arnero is located at the corner of sackville street and bloom street. I popped in to carry out some lunch today, as my office is on the other end of sackville street and therefore this is a convenient walk.
The name is an amalgamation of the first two letters of the owners' children, according to the bio page on their menu.
The decor attempts to reflect a quintessentially Indian style with a lot of colours, a buddha wall art and another wall art depicting seven horses.
Right, now, down to the food; I seem to have a craving for this Bombay street food dish called vada pav, which is, for all intents and purposes an Indian potato burger. The menu at Arnero has a street food section, and to my delight I found vada pav listed there. I also got a chicken tikka wrap (I must have spent too much time in England now, ;-) I think).
Both items and the naan that wrapped the chicken were made fresh.
I got two vada pav's in the portion. The vada (patty) of the vada pav was cooked to an optimum level. The wholemeal pav (bun) was soft and felt like a welcome change. Although the dish tasted good and felt well made, it lacked that certain zingy, tangy taste and the chilly heat that are an integral part of a vada pav. Nevertheless, not a bad effort.
The chicken tikka wrap was well made. The fresh, hot naan tasted very well and had a fine texture. The chicken was succulent and cooked well. However, the guy who took my order didn't ask me what sauces or salad I wanted. Again, I can let them off cos the overall experience of the dish was satisfying.
The guy who took my order was polite, friendly and courteous, which goes a long way. I also got a 10% discount, although I forgot to ask if it was a lunch time special or an introductory offer. They also have an express lunch platter menu, with the veggie option costing £5.99 and the meat option @ £6.99. Given that I have had an overall satisfying experience on this occasion, I am tempted to visit them again to try the express lunch, with my colleagues.
As with everywhere else I hope they maintain their quality, taste and service. read more
