As any parent would be I was in shock and wanted to put in a complaint. But he said that to not put in the complaint. I was also extremely confused. After the first week of school, he said that bullies wanted to fight him at ASP. And then the next day he came home looking sad and hurt. He said that the bullies had all started hitting him. He also said that the monitors were paying little to no attention to the children. This gave me a clear idea that the school i had enrolled him for 3 YEARS was obviosity lying when they were the best school in Georgia. Towards the end of 2017, I had received two different emails from two different teachers in one week regarding my sun and his behavior, causing disruption in the class and not completing assignments. My remedy for this behavior was a promise to follow through with a butt whooping from me to him if he got in trouble again. Needless to say, he did indeed get into trouble again only a few days later. When the teacher told him she would be calling me, by her words, he flipped out crying hysterically, saying he was gonna get a whooping and that he was "scared". My issue with Ms. Melissa Joe and Ms. Heather Rainy is, that after being immensely involved with this school after 11 years, 3 children, GOD knows how many Fun Fest, Bear Runs, Road Runners, Talent Shows, Fundraisers, Volunteering etc etc, they SUSPECTED child abuse! Yes indeed they called DFCS on me, an Educator myself, after I took the initiative to correct the very behavior of my child they were complaining about! Now that's a kick in the teeth! I immediately withdrew my sun and thank GOD for always being in control. The case worker that handled this situation was definitely an Angel and closed this case with no doubt the school's administrators had been dramatic in their decision to involve them. I believe if this were a white family, that call would have never been made. This school has become an extension of our family…read more The level of skill and passion these teachers and staff have for Montessori education is amazing to watch. We have had one child there from 18 months through Lower Primary, and our second child starts in a few weeks. The value of sending our children here instead of to a daycare has been huge. Watching friends who live other places and don't have a Montessori option send their kids to daycare where they pay more money for a bare minimum level of childcare has been eye opening. At Hillside, we always know our kids are safe, cared for, happy, and learning. When our son was 2 years old, he came home singing a song that we couldn't quite understand the words to. That night at bedtime, he pointed to a map and said "That's North America!" That was when we realized he had been singing the continents song all afternoon. He has grown in practical skills (helping us with dinner every night), creative ability (he loves painting and drawing), and emotional maturity (helping with his little sister because he is used to "being a leader" in the classroom at school). I don't write reviews often, but Hillside deserves more than five stars.

My son has flourished here. He rides the bus to and from school everyday. They have a great system with stops all over the city. If you're considering private school in the Atlanta area you have much to choose from. I highly recommend Woodward Academy. Call for a tour! The counselors shouldn't counsel a trash can, definitely not a child. Mrs Lauchlan is pretty good at accomplishing nothing. Mr Lawrence isn't certified and he has the maturity level of a 6th grader. Bottom line: Look at the test scores compared to other private schools. The kids complain about the lunch. The co-curricular and athletic options are good. Your kid will be bullied. Your kids will receive a public school education with perks. Don't waste your money.

Overall I liked this school the teachers that my daughter had did extremely well. I was a little worried by this being a predominately black school. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's always good thing to have a mixed crowd for some diversity. The school did have a little bit of an issue early this year with the assistant principle (you can google that) but it didn't effect anything with the students. I asked for a stronger teacher when I enrolled my daughter and they defiantly gave me that. Ms. Young was so good with my daughter and I appreciate teachers who have a general interest in your child and wants them to succeed. I wish duplicate her and have her as my daughters teacher until she graduates. I am a very involved parent and I could really see a lot of parents aren't. My daughter always had stories about little fights that happened and other behavior issues that she saw on some days. I don't blame the school at all. Parents should address that for the most part (my opinion). This school automatically gets free breakfast & lunch so no need to send money or fill out hardship forms if you usually do. The school is fairly new. Always clean (inside and outside) I've never seen any issues there or any strange smells.

They recently built a new playground and gym in the past ten years - when I was there we had to do chair aerobics in the cafeteria on rainy days because there was no gym. The teachers and administrators continue teaching here for years because of the great support from the parents in the area. Classrooms are never overcrowded, and I can't recall a time when they had to use trailers. It's my dear alma mater and there is nothing bad I could say about this school; most of my great childhood memories took place here - the spring festivals, field days, sock-hops, and fall carnivals.
