LET ME START WITH THIS: I am a professional photojournalist who has used many rental places across the states and this place is the worst of all time. Not due to the quality of equipment but the attitude of the staff, most seem very easy going and professional but the older lady named Laura is awful and should not work at this place, at least not in a retail position, because she is rude and bad mouths the others in the shop consistently. Saw some bad reviews on here about the service provided. Me and my wife stopped in to try to learn a bit more about her camera before our trip and they spent almost an hour explaining everything to us. They couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. We will definitely be back and I recommend anyone else to stop by. Unfortunately we did not get the name of the person who helped us but they were the one training a new hire so I can see why. I have been out of photography for a minute now, but have recently had a spark in my interest and am wanting to get back in. I'm usually a window shopper and like to see things in person so that I can make a better decision about what I want to purchase. To save money, I had been looking at getting an older Olympus model and to my surprise, they actually had a few of the model I wanted there for me to check out. The first gentleman who helped me, Hermilo, was very helpful, even after I explained that I was just looking at the moment. After browsing the store for a second, I met another helpful clerk named Paul. We chatted for a bit about different camera bags and what he shoots with. My experience with the store was great; everyone I spoke with was very helpful and friendly. They even mentioned that they have a layaway program, which is very helpful for me since we're a young family with not a lot of money. I had previously been contemplating buying the camera I wanted on KEH or MPB, but most definitely will be giving these fine folks my business now. The icing on the cake is that they can ship it to me since we actually live 6 hours away. I really look forward to doing business with them soon and coming back in person when we're in the area. Compared to the Camera shop in West FW this little shop is NIRVANA! In FW they act like they can't be bothered. Both on the phone and in person. But enough of how I feel. I asked to be put on a waiting list for a camera 5 months ago, and when the stock finally became available (manufacturer issue and not the store's fault), the staff immediately called me to notify me and facilitated the completion of the purchase over the phone. Rude Staff I'm not native at English pronunciations, and this was my first time buying a sensor cleaner for my old Canon Rebel T5. When I asked the staff for an "APS-C sensor cleaner," I stumbled around and accidentally said, "Do you guys have a ASCP... swab cleaner?" I was corrected in a fairly blunt tone and was directed to a kit on the shelf. The worst part was that the kit I was told to buy was around $40-$50, which is insanely overpriced compared to Amazon or other camera stores around DFW. I can't tell if they were treating me like an idiot or if their prices are really that high. read more

I've made 2 purchases at Arlington camera and have had a positive experience overall. The first purchase was quick and easy. I knew what I wanted and asked for a Sony 35mm lens for my mirrorless camera. The gentleman working (sorry I forgot his name) set me up with the lens and clear filter. He was quick, polite, and I was out the door in 15 minutes. Expensive glass but their prices in store were the same as Amazon without the wait for shipping. The 35mm lens shoots great low light video and the depth of field is incredible. You can shoot some razor sharp bokehlicious photos with the 35mm and you don't have to get extremely close to the subject. Previously I used a 50mm for portraits and sharp images but the 35mm is now my go to lens. My second purchase at the store I wanted a tripod but not sure what to get. I worked with sales rep JPW on the receipt. I basically said, "I want a Manfrotto tripod that can support the weight of a slider and a mirrorless camera and don't want to spend much over $250." He recommended an absolute beast of a tripod. The aluminum Manfrotto 055XPRO with 3 way head can support the weight of my slider and camera. When it's low to the ground with the legs at a more aggressive angle, it can handle the weight of a slider, Weebill s, and camera just fine. The 3 way head is extremely sturdy and considering the overall strength, the tripod isn't extremely heavy and can be taken on a decent hike. I'm also prior service Marine Corp so the extra weight isn't an issue The tripod is over 6' with everything fully extended and it's great for product shots because the pole that's attached to the head can pivot 90 degrees. Extremely happy with my lens and tripod. Thanks to Arlington Camera I added 2 extremely useful and robust items to my camera tool kit. Lastly I'm not a photographer. I weld for a living and videography is more of a hobby. If I ever need a camera product aside from a gimbal, Arlington Camera is my go to spot and I would recommend it to a friend. read more

RENT WITH CAUTION!!!! I normally never leave reviews but I needed to write one here. I was returning a flash that my friend had rented over the weekend. She had selected the rental to be due at 6 because that was what she was able to select on the website. However, when I went to return it, they told me that they closed at 5, it was actually due at noon and my friend would be charged for another day. The staff was extremely rude and disrespectful and said that obviously my friend did not know how to communicate even though she was told that it was due at 6. I would never recommend this business to anyone because of the disrespectful staff and their flawed conditions. My friend was also sold batteries that the man claimed "to be better than drugstore batteries", and they did not even work and he was extremely condescending when speaking with both me and her. Great customer service and very informative. I had gone back and forth on whether or not I should get a camera from Best Buy or Arlington Camera. I went in to Best Buy first and talked to one of the sales associates but you could tell he didn't really know what he was talking about. So the next day I called Arlington Camera and talked to Rick for 15 minutes, it was my first time buying a nice Camera so I really didn't know much about them. He really went above and beyond on educating me on everything I needed to know. It's unfortunate that a camera shop so close to where I live is one that I have no desire to go into. I don't know if it's bad luck or what, but almost every time I've been in, I end up having to deal with the same guy who has no business being in sales or customer relations. The interactions are always awkward. He usually doesn't know the inventory at all and seems very reluctant to allow me to look at the cameras. When I do get to look, there's no battery, there's no salesmanship, he just hands me a dead camera to look at and doesn't say anything. It's either that OR he has talked my ear off about stuff that I don't have the slightest interest in. Now, I just don't go into this shop and it's like 5 minutes from home. For the record, I've actually purchased one new camera from them, so I'm not just some looky-loo. I was recently in the market for a more expensive camera body and ended up driving out to Ft. Worth to purchase. The service there was stellar, warm and friendly. When I lived in Dallas, Competitive Camera always treated me right as well. Oh well. read more

This is not one of those chain places with teenagers who didn't even know that cameras used to use film. This is where you find real experts! I've been coming here over 5 yrs and my brother over 10! Mr. Good Lookin' Rick Johnson at Arlington Camera was kind enough to let my husband and I play with their last Canon 5D Mark II kit and answer ALL of our questions for thirty minutes (after closing hours!). He wasn't pushy or trying to nail a sale; he was informative, friendly and FUNNY. I worked for both Ritz Camera in Florida and Wolf Camera in Texas and we did not cater to the professional market. I spent my days peddling point and shoots, running the lab and not trying too hard to sell crummy ink jet photo books. I can really appreciate the knowledgeable employees, operation and clientele that Arlington Camera has established. Arlington Camera is a great place and I would highly recommend them. It's also really important to mention that you get the same service if you're buying a $100 camera. You don't have to spend big to be treated with respect here, which is hard to come by. Also: we totally got our centerpieces for our wedding at Arlington Camera. The store is worth the trip just for the bizarre doodads near the wall next to the lab. read more

I've been to AC several times in the past and won't be going back. This shop doesn't seem like it's very student or beginner friendly. If you are already knowledgeable about photography and it's obvious to them you know what you're talking about, you're golden. Otherwise, you may not receive the same level of service as the guy coming in the door after you. I had been there for Ilford paper and film a few times before but always ignored. Initially it didn't bother me until I came in needing a serious amount of student supplies. I actually was there for about 15 items, including a lens. I didn't realize until after arriving home and reading through all of their reviews that they offer used equipment (which, as a student, would've helped me tremendously!) which the woman never told me. She even advised me against buying used lenses. I only needed this lens for ONE semester. Had I not been short on time, I would've just ordered everything online and saved about 40% and half a tank of gas. In total, I spent a little less than $385 at AC. Overall, not a fun experience and I haven't been back in years. Also haven't messed with film or photography since, as I don't play the elitist game. read more

I'm all about supporting local business but I'm just going to have come to grips and say it: (standing from chair) My name is Alex, I'm a photographer, and I don't like Arlington Camera. There I said it. Phew, I feel much better. This store is great for people who have lots of money to spend on an expensive hobby, or are pro enough that they are confident enough they can make a return on high-end photo gear, but for beginners or people that like this as a hobby and don't need to impress people with fancy gear I suggest the internet. Let me illustrate: Exhibit A: I bought a remote shutter release from these guys for $20. Found it online new and free shipping for 2.99... Fail me. Exhibit B: I bought an umbrella for like $30... just an umbrella. I go online and buy two 7-foot stands, two umbrella brackets (that connet umbrella to stand with adjusters) and 4 umbrellas for $70! 4 umbrellas! Sure the qualtiy isn't as good as the stuff Arlington Camera might sell, but to start out I don't want to drop $300 for the same set up. I just want to have fun and experiment. All I'm saying is I wish they catered more to beginners and amateurs. If you're pro or wealthy you'll love this place. In addition to this, I've never felt comfortable there. I think they need to get a bigger location for one, but I've never felt comfortable with the staff either... nothing in particular- I just get heeby jeebies. This store is way too small and way too understaffed. I've gone in late in the week and way too many people in there. So, this time I went in beginning of the week. Two guys working the counter with two customers with time consuming issues. I don't mind waiting but it's so cramp. There's no where to wait without behind right behind the person being served and that's rude. If I dare to wander off for a moment to look around, there's goes my "spot". I always give local businesses first shot. I eat at privately owned restaurants and hire local vendors for home or car repair. I bought my last camera body and lens from Arlington Camera several years ago and thought I would drive across town to give them a shot of replacing my out-dated system. Seemed a little expensive on something I was looking for and they were out of stock. I was standing at the counter for quite a while and one guy ignored me and walked around me a couple times. He didn't seem to be helping anyone. Finally I got his attention and asked a couple questions. One of the questions had to do with what I was purchasing. He looked at I asked something specific about the item and he told me no but made very little effort after that. Really strange. The first salesperson I encountered was very nice and went out of his way to help me. When he came to the area, I in a moved up to both of them and asked a question. I got the answer. Decent selection, but cramped store. Think they need more paid staff. Apparently have a volunteer or two. Staff can be very nice or completely indifferent to your existence depending on who it is and how busy they are. Can be downright rude on the phone and in e-mail. Mark-ups on some of the stuff is ridiculous. I don't mind paying more for local brick-and-mortar -- I prefer it, actually -- but some of the pricing here is really brutal and disqualifying. They buy gear but the offers are not competitive, offered $200 less on a body than an Amazon trade-in, which is itself a rip-off. They will help you get started (if you inquire) and are dedicated to everything photographic as well as their main provision of having a fine and deep collections of cameras. Each of the considerably accomplished staff will provide what you want and then some. The store is a virtual treasure of what photographer want, and they stock it with usually a choice of competitive pricing for popular items.
