I felt like I could trust her pretty soon after we began to work together. She was great at being willing to challenge me when I needed to be challenged and also giving me space and time to think through some issues. I found myself replaying insightful things she said to me during session throughout the week, and throughout our work together I felt like I became more empowered. I HIGHLY recommend working with Kate as your therapist -- she is truly a perfect blend of empathetic, humble, and collaborative!

I am currently not seeing Elizabeth regularly as I once did and I read in a recent email from her…read morethat she is possibly stepping down from therapy and focus on being director of her practice. But before she steps down, I want to mention how great she was as my therapist. So here's my review. I initially came to Elizabeth when I had made the mistake of falling head over heels for someone who did not feel the same way. As you can imagine, that cause me a lot of heartache. She was very good in the beginning stages and guided me through this heartache. Then I was about to start a grad school program that would be a waste of time and money for me to come. (To make a long story short, I ended up being part of a class action lawsuit against PriceWaterhouse, one of the largest accounting firms, for age discrimination. PriceWaterhouse settled rather than take it to court.) The grad school program would be a major stressor for me. During that time, Elizabeth was always there for me and helped me as I was experiencing a program that should have been a help but wasn't. Eventually, the grad school program ended and the heartache was gone, but I continue to see Elizabeth because I really liked her and found her to be a great support on whatever was going in my daily life. Then, I came down with a severe case of OCD and Elizabeth honestly knew it wasn't her specialty and we would both agree I need to find an OCD expert. Her confessing it wasn't her specialty made her better in my eyes. There are therapists who think they can deal with any problem that they face. Honest therapists know they cannot handle every issue and that's what Elizabeth was. As I mentioned earlier, she is stepping down from her therapy role and is about to become director of a program, A Better Life Therapy. I am sure the people she staff will be excellent as her. But I want her to know before she goes on what a great therapist she is and the therapy universe will be missing a true angel like her.

When I went, her prices were $180 for a 50-minute session and $270 for a 75-minute session. If she…read morehad provided excellent career counseling and I walked away prepared to find a job, those rates would be extraordinarily reasonable for guidance from a PhD Psychologist who specializes in career counseling and has 15-20 years of experience. However... The first appointment (75mins/$270) was an extended intake. I got absolutely nothing out of it. When I asked what her strategy was to help me find employment, she said, basically, it depends and that there are a lot of things she can help with. (Yeah, I never felt like I got a straight answer to that question.) Session 2 (50mins/$180): She retrod the same ground that had been covered in the intake session and we made no progress. I repeated my question about strategy and didn't get a good answer this time, either. Session 3 (50mins/$180): I brought her an old aptitude test/interest inventory I'd taken about a year previously, hoping she could provide some professional expertise as to what it recommended in more depth than I could understand myself. She didn't point out anything that wasn't obvious from first glance, then proceeded to read a several-page-long list of recommended jobs at me. (I had already read the list myself multiple times and found it unenlightening, which is why I was asking for her opinion.) Session 4 (50mins/$180): By sheer accident, the week before this appointment I found an interesting job opening on the other side of the country and shot the founder an email. He was impressed enough to schedule an interview with me before I even sent in a resume. The counselor didn't have much advice to help me with that, though we managed (finally) to clarify the types of businesses and industries I'd like to work with. Session 5 (50mins/$180): She'd done her homework and had Googled lists of cool businesses in cities I might be interested in. After spending at least 15 minutes tethering her laptop to her cell phone (because, as she told me, business internet is too expensive), and another five or ten minutes pulling up the email she sent herself about the companies she'd found, she then sat on the couch next to me and showed me business listings and company websites for the rest of the session--as if I was too stupid to use the internet on my own. (She has, for some reason, a massive aversion to communicating with clients by email. If she'd have just mailed me this list upfront, we could have avoided this entire meeting.) All that said, she seems like a nice lady, and if you need really basic career counseling services, I'm sure she could help you. But for $990 and zero results, I'm very skeptical of sending anyone else her way.

Add to this that her location is so ridiculously convenient, and you've found your acupuncturist. Dr Perilstein is a life saver!…read more 6 months ago I began seeing her during a very difficult time in my life. Quite frankly I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel... I didn't have a day without crippling anxiety and it drive me to depression. Doctor Perilstein, with a large dose on genuine care and a small dose of comedy, began treating me. Afterward, in my next relationship, it seemed she got too attached to an image she had formed of my partner, and wouldn't allow for who I was and what I wanted to naturally evolve as my relationship with my partner deepened and where we started not wanting the same things, we grew to a point where I actually did want the same thing he wanted. But it felt like Joanne didn't think I was allowed to evolve? It got weird, where I would get anxious before my session and it felt like an appointment made to a weekly fight. A weekly fight that led to another fight with my partner. When I realized that, I stopped seeing her. I think she was great for crisis stabilization and getting me through a divorce, but I outgrew her when things stabilized in my life after that.
