We stopped into Arizona Hoder because we have a hat that we wanted to get fitted onto my partner's head. We were greeted right away when we came in and the service was super helpful and cheery. I also asked a lot of questions about the business and they were very open to sharing all about what they do. Not only do they have a wide variety of hats that aren't just cowboy oriented, but they also can make adjustments to a hat that you might have so that it can fit you better or have a custom appearance to it. I didn't know this store was here, but it's so much fun. Our boss took us here to get hats before our trail ride. So many hats to choose from in this cozy place. It's not just cowboy hats, bucket hats, Sun hats, straw hats, fedoras. Most were brown, crème or black colors, but there are a few colorful ones that might catch your eye. Wanted to buy my first Stetson hat and what better place to go than the historic Arizona Hatters. I was in Tucson on business and drove about 19 miles after work to there location. I was pleased when I walked into the store and was greeted immediately; the store is full of every kind of hat you could think of including Stetsons. Max was very helpful providing hat after hat after hat for me to try for size and style. An hour later I walked out with 2 Stetsons, a white one with holes for use in the heat of the day and a dress silver belly color Pawnee. But you can find non-Western styles such as fedora, large sun hats, traditional, contemporary and event golf caps! You'll find straw, felt, wool, leather, and surely more materials. They carry other accessories such as belts, bolo ties, hatbands, (check out their selection of the hand beaded bands, they are beautiful!) They are true experts in all things hats and are specialized in hat renovations/repair, maintenance and custom fitting/shaping. Full-service hat cleaning is also available in store. The store manager Chuong is an expert seamstress too! She has been working with AZ Hatters for over 30 years and is highly skilled in repairs, fitting and shaping. Buying a hat is like buying anything else that should be properly fitted, like shoes, a suit, denim, etc. Arizona Hatters will not let you leave with an ill fitting hat, you can count on that! The customer service is excellent. They are super friendly and knowledgable. Arizona Hatters is where many ranchers and cowboys from Southern AZ go to purchase hats and or/get them re-blocked. I have been trying to find a hat for Seattle rain, and have had no luck. While on vacation in Tucson, we had a rainy day so decided to see if there were any hat places here. There appears to be just one. But it is FABULOUS! The person that helped me took his time to educate me on the materials, and which would NOT work in a rainy climate. I found a hat I loved. After checking the fit the made some adjustments to make it perfect, then taught me how to take care if it. Evidently there was a woman who worked there for 40 years who just retired, but she has passed her knowledge to their current staff. The custom hats they were working on were so impressive. if I could give a negative star I would. i have bought all my felt hats from this store going back to the mid 90s when I rode competitively. today my first stop was this store to buy a new Stetson, right off the bat customer service was slow the wife and I were the only two in the store. explained to the young man I need a hat for a wedding. I pickup on his very dismissive attitude toward me. He displayed a lack of willingness to assist me, and was not helpful at all. down the road I went to your nearest competitor, were I received outstanding assistance. be better do better. read more

We came to AZ from MI on a celebratory family vacation. One of my Sons had wanted a cowboy style hat, but no real idea for what kind of hat, and needed to bridge the gap between Az and Mi. The folks here were AWESOME! Asked a few questions, provided a great selection to choose from (across all price levels), and some sound recommendations. We left with not one, but two hats! One star is being highly generous. Here you have a hat store run by folks that have NO UNDERSTANDING of hats. I went looking for a Grey Fedora with a teardrop crown and wide-ish brim. They don't know what a fedora is. They have no idea what a teardrop or C crown is. They carry Stetson, but had no idea Stetson makes Fedoras. When I pointed out to them that Stetson makes EXACTLY the hat I'm looking for, they made no offer to order it for me and told me to go find someone on he Internet. I've never see a store so UNWILLING to help a customer in my entire life!! Go to Boot Barn instead, they have people who know what a hat is and are more than willing to help you find what you're looking for. They will also order a hat for you. If you're serious about getting a good hat, AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE, they have NO CLUE. read more

Yesterday I went to Arizona Hatters and purchased my first Stetson, a nice 10X straw beauty. I couldn't be more pleased with every aspect of the transaction - hence, five stars. When I walked in, I had only one idea: "a little cowboy, but not too cowboy." I've got a long, skinny face and small head and no chin, so I just knew that a cowboy hat was gonna make me look dorkier than usual. I was surprised that the sales team (two people) knew exactly what I was looking for. They quickly narrowed the options to about six or seven hats. I got it down to three possibilities. The man (maybe the proprietor?) Didn't hesitate to make a recommendation, a Stetson Grant. The only problem was the shape of the brim. No problem - he took the hat into the back and reshaped the brim. Amazon charges the same price for this hat. Without the custom fitting and reshaping, of course. And without the extremely welcoming service. And, best of all, I look better WITH the hat, than without. Dang, I'm gonna wear it to bed. That's a cowboy thing, right? ===== Update: Just bought a wool felt Stetson. Again, Richard and Chung provided superb service, fitting the hat properly to my goofy head and shaping the brim in various subtle ways. I wouldn't buy a hat anywhere else. read more

Somebody has to give this place some love! Arizona Hatters is a small store that has a good selection of mostly cowboy hats, but also some fedoras and non-western hats. Their selection of cowboy hats range from the cheap "pre-aged" fashion types to the high-dollar Stetson. I would go into more detail about this if I wore cowboy hats. Their selection of non-western hats are mostly pretty formal and look a bit too "costume-y" for every day wear, but I have found a couple hats that fit into my every-day rotation. The lady working there was even nice enough to change out the hat-band for me to one I liked better, free of charge. I wish there was a better selection of fedoras, especially light-weight summer fedoras, but I will keep checking back to see what they have because I would rather support local businesses than buy some cheap made-in-China hat from Lids or a department store. read more

My wife and I were visiting friends in Tuscon, and I wanted to take her to to to some western outfitters because she loves the western style leather goods. Long story short, after two other shops, we visited Arizona Hatters. I had been primed already, and succumbed to the temptation to replace my ratty old Panama hat. I received both very personable customer service and an education on hat manufacturing (did you know that many hats -- both wool and straw -- come as "blanks " with no shape other than the dome?) When you buy a hat blank, a very nice, very skilled lady uses antique equipment and forms the hat to your exact specifications. I had in mind a crown style I've heard called a "gambler" or "Sam Houston" with a gently curved brim. I was on the fence about a "pencil rolled" rim. I was instructed how to care for the hat: wet it down every other month, and put it up for the night with the sweat band rolled up out of the hat so it dries. Overall, I'd describe this couture experience as on par (but much faster and reasonably priced) with having a custom suit made. There is a certain lasting primal enjoyment in having an object which was made specifically to fit you, your tastes, and your exact (if odd) shape. Two opposable thumbs up. read more

I have a 10 YO brown felt Stetson that is my daily cool weather hat. After 10 years it was tan with sweat and AZ dust. I dropped it off for a good cleaning ($65) and got back a hat that looks new! After reading some of the other reviews, we thought this store would only have cowboy hats, but decided to stop by anyway and were very pleasantly surprised to find it has a good selection of other types of hats. The folks there were very helpful in finding the perfect straw hat for my husband to wear while out and about enjoying the Arizona sunshine -- a straw Stetson with a ventilated crown that was not too cowboy-ish, not too golfer-ish and not to Tommy Bahama-ish. I'm a bit conflicted about Arizona Hatters. On one hand, they are the only 100% hat store in Tucson (that I've been able to find) with a large selection of cowboy hats and large-brimmed hats suitable for shading one's gourd. The owners are personable and helpful, and service their products. (While I was there, multiple customers came in to have one or more hats reblocked.) I was looking for and found a large-brimmed Tilley that I wanted as an outdoor working and hiking hat. So what's not to like? They're expensive! I would later discover that the hat I purchased was a good 10% above the MSRP, as advertised on the Tilley website (and these are not cheap hats even at MSRP). Well, that's disappointing! If you are in the market for a cowboy hat -- go. There is nothing else like it in Tucson. But pay attention to the price. read more

I love this place. It is a honest to goodness hat store, and they know their stuff. I have bought multiple hats here, returned for help with shaping and reshaping (being a novice hat wearer), and I have even brought in a 40 year old hat for repair - I got it back in practically new looking shape and condition. I was amazed. I'm sad I don't have more of a like for and occasion to wear hats because I just like visiting this place. If you need a hat or hat repair look no further. This store has a good selection of hats. Mainly cowboy hats in various styles, though with a few fedoras and panamas thrown in. This was important as I had to try on multiple straw hats to find one that fit. Also there are hat bands, belts, shirts, etc. The Vietnamese lady working here is top notch. She's been selling hats for at least 19 years. And she was nice enough to custom shape a palm hat for me that I didn't end up buying. I did buy a different one. She can do all sorts of stuff for little or no charge. Pricing is as good as anywhere else, including online. Felt hats have some leeway with sizing, but straw/palm you really need to go try it on. My head is a round oval 7 1/8 in Resistol felt, but I bought a long oval in palm Atwood size 7, and it's just right. And the various sizes of different parts of the hat make a big difference in the mirror. read more
