My mother lives here in independent housing. She made an informed choice to live here. There are…read morepluses for us : close proximity to amenities and to my home. The Wye Valley building seems comfortable enough but there are some glaring issues. 1) The meals are not very healthy or satisfying. For the price that is paid, I would expect fresher food, more variety, more flavor (I have eaten there myself a few times.) More importantly, the meals don't seem to follow appropriate dietary guidelines for seniors with health issues, i.e. most seniors. There was a brief period when the staff had a dietician that was making a real effort to make sure the food was tasty, well presented and appropriately nutritional for the individuals. But now, the food is not very good. My mother tells me about other residents complaining about the food, but are afraid to speak up. 2) The second elevator has been inoperable for months, because of needed repairs. However, and this is on Brookfield, an inspection has not yet been completed, it seems like it's been out of service most of the year. 3) Although the building is for independent living, seniors still need support and stimulation. There is a small game room and a room with an exercise bike. The staff I have encountered do well with the resources they have, but it seems like more interactive activities could be added - things that are a little more engaging and lively - that would be appropriate for an independent living situation.

Cordia is a wonderful place!…read more Our culture is such that mothers expect to remain in the house of one of their daughters until their death, however my house has stairs and is too dangerous for my mom. She was resistant to being anywhere but with family so moving her to Cordia produced a lot of anxiety for her. Thankfully, the wonderful staff at Cordia - from the lobby workers to the maintenance workers to the amazing dining room staff - all worked their magic to make her feel treasured and safe. Personally, I see that the staff at Cordia are very satisfied working with the senior residents there. I engage in conversations with them and am grateful for their kindness and respect for the residents and for each other. Cordia has a wonderful line-up of daily activities and they also have special activities for holidays. I'm super pleased to see my mom engaging in different activities that she never had done before Cordia. For example, I used to try to have her do chair workouts with me but she had always refused. Now at Cordia, she's down in the workout room at least 3 times a week!!! I think Cordia has given her new life! She was always very anxious about food owing to issues with onions and other spices, but has had no problems at all since at Cordia. She loves their food! I'm very, very pleased with Cordia. Food often cold, long waits, condiment and beverage problems. LL floor food served in courses, with many choices. Some meals excellent. Often closer to classes, activities, evening entertainment. Resident conversations stimulating. OT/PT very good - work well together as a team. Billing usually inaccurate - not my meals, $9 for a bottle of distilled water. Over charges on drugs - didn't bother to bill my health plan. As in almost all facilities the biggest problems were the aides. Under paid, lots of back and body pains, high absenteeism and turnover. caseload too high. Usually impossible to get care between 6:45 - 7:30 pm, due to poor management. Slow response to having no cable, no call butt0n - they gave me a bell that could not be heard and closed. the room door! Not fully ADA compliant for wheelchair use - dangerous. Many independent living residents have been here over 20 years -they are happy.

We especially like the food service. It's great to be served each evening in a pleasant dining room, with linen tablecloths and friendly wait staff. The food is delicious and a great variety. Each evening there are at least 3 choices for entrees, with some always available alternates. The food is fresh and served at the proper temperature. The variety of activities available would keep you busy all the time. I especially appreciate having daily Mass available.

The revolving door policy for key personnel has created many problems, among them staff shortages and undertrained personnel. The veteran staff must wear many hats to fill the void, i.e. from head chef to bus driver. The food fluctuates between excellent to poor because of the aforementioned factors. Finally, we have a very active Resident Council whose input seems to be ignored. Let's hope that cooperation will improve in the future.
