The phone to the front entrance rang endlessly! And no one ever answered! (I gave them the benefit of the doubt! I thought the person may have had to go to the bathroom and forgot to turn the answering machine on!). So, I called the next closest Aperion Care ( in Forest Park, and received the shock of my life! Yes, they answered the phone on the very first ring! But that proved that Aperion was doing the right thing at other locations. However, Aperion Nursing Home of Westchester IL can't even provide the most basic of human services: the capability to leave a message with a resident via phone 24 hours per day! How utterly disgusting and pathetic! The State of Illinois should shut this sub standard healthcare institution down for this offense alone! And now just out of curiosity at 3:02 am I try once again (remember I originally tried at 1:30 am followed by a second time at close to 2 am! At which the phone just rings endlessly! Pathetic!) And now at 3:02 am, what? Same subpar result! No one answered the phone or even switched on an answering service! So this proves and validated the truth that over the lifetime of its existence! The Aperion Nursing Home of Westchester IL deserves its D average record of 1.0. /5.0 star average rating based on 20 reviews since it opened in 1989! WARNING: Fellow Illinois residents! Don't risk the health of your family or friends! Don't send them to this HELL HOLE! For Christ's Sake even the Cook County Morgue and Animal Welfare have a live operator 24 hours per day! Which means that we as a society of tax payers offer more fundamental services to those that have just died and the neighborhood lost or rabid dog than a for-profit national nursing home chain which is collecting billions, yes billions from our family and friends and as an insult to all of us can't even provide consistent care in our own Cook County! ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!

We have been very pleased with the care she has received here. She is always clean, and the staff is very kind to her. She had been losing a lot of weight in the other facility, but here she actually gained a few pounds. Granted, The Grove is not a bright and shiny new care center, but the staff more than makes up for that in their care. Most impressive has been their diligence is keeping Covid-19 out of the facility. There haven't even been a handful of cases in 6 months. I get routine calls with updates on my mom, and they established a hotline so you can call in 24/7 for information on infection rates and their policies. I think they are doing all they can to keep their residents safe and cared for.

So we decided to give this place a try. My grandfather was admitted two weeks ago. He left the hospital and went straight here. He had some strength returning and just needed a bit more physical therapy for about a week to be on a good path. When dropping him off, we already felt that this place was not up to par. It was dingy, appeared to be in need of a good cleaning, and we noticed that there wasn't a remote or call button for my grandfather to press if he needed help with anything. Going against our gut, we left him there and figured we'd ask him how the night was and could always take him out the next day if it was as rough as we thought it might be. He fell during the night. He said he was lying on the floor waiting for help for about 30 minutes before anyone noticed. On top of that, we found out that in the 12 hours he was at this facility, no one gave him his medicines. He requires about 12 of them -- each more important than the next. Lastly, he has Leukemia. Yet was placed in a room with a roommate. It's common knowledge that immune systems are low with such a cancer. Yet, the roommate didn't wear a mask nor did any of the staff. If another facility is an option, I'd recommend trying that one instead as my grandfather is back in the hospital after one night at this incompetent facility and has lost all the gains he struggled for a month to achieve. He was so close to going home with his strength and abilities.

The Wye Valley building seems comfortable enough but there are some glaring issues. 1) The meals are not very healthy or satisfying. For the price that is paid, I would expect fresher food, more variety, more flavor (I have eaten there myself a few times.) More importantly, the meals don't seem to follow appropriate dietary guidelines for seniors with health issues, i.e. most seniors. There was a brief period when the staff had a dietician that was making a real effort to make sure the food was tasty, well presented and appropriately nutritional for the individuals. But now, the food is not very good. My mother tells me about other residents complaining about the food, but are afraid to speak up. 2) The second elevator has been inoperable for months, because of needed repairs. However, and this is on Brookfield, an inspection has not yet been completed, it seems like it's been out of service most of the year. 3) Although the building is for independent living, seniors still need support and stimulation. There is a small game room and a room with an exercise bike. The staff I have encountered do well with the resources they have, but it seems like more interactive activities could be added - things that are a little more engaging and lively - that would be appropriate for an independent living situation.

We bought him a bag of lollipops to suck on because the radiation he is on leaves his throat dry. The staff STOLE his lollipops. My mother ran down the hall to stop them and they told her they must have fallen out of his pocket. Well lo and behold they gave him back 4 of his 14 lollipops from the ambulance. Then, they left him in a soaking wet diaper. Then the air is broken in the room. It was so hot a Hershey bar was melting. My mother complained and she was told "the thermostat is broken how do you know the temp in the room"?? Also my father was done with his radiation. He gets oxygen so he can breathe.
