The shop has a large selection of guitars mainly but some other stuff like drums. The guy at the counter was fairly helpful in explaining what needed to be fixed. I asked a few basic questions about what to know, how to play, etc. which he answered plainly. He took down my information and I was able to drop my guitar off. He said it would be fixed by next week. I got a call and was able to pay for it and pick it up. He cleaned it up also which I appreciated. I grabbed some picks and went about my day. Now I'm doing some research on the basics but it all came out to be around 65 dollars to change strings, tune it up plus labor. I would recommend if you're needing to fix up an instrument, the staff is knowledgeable and able to answer most of your questions.

Nice LOOKING stuff, but certainly more geared toward the beginning musician, or someone on a tight budget. We went to check out the kids music class, and found the setting to be quite chaotic and extremely cramped. The teacher seemed nice, if not a little unhappy to have to be working with 3 year olds, and the man at the counter was very pleasant. I definitely don't see a reason why I would be back here to buy anything, and wouldn't consider lessons for my kid until she was much older.

Hours of attempted tuning later, I still wasn't able to play a single chord accurately and I was quickly becoming discouraged. Today, we stopped into Old Towne Music to inquire about lessons and see if they'd tune my guitar. The place is small, with two or three tiny lesson rooms in the back. It's cluttered, but not unorganized. The mostly-brown decor could use some updating. I was worried that I'd feel snubbed because of my "starter guitar," but I didn't feel judged when I handed over my Silvertone to the employee behind the desk. He was friendly, and he quickly made my guitar sound the way it should, first by his own ear, then with a tuning pipe, then with an electric tuner. No charge. I picked up a lesson registration form, and prices seem pretty comparable to other places in my area. My attempts to take "lessons" on YouTube are not going so well... I am definitely considering hitting up Old Towne Music for some one-on-one direction with my strings.

Had a tough time reaching the strings and my instructor handed me one with a thinner, narrower neck and fret board and it made it so much easier. So, I came to Music Museum and told Matt my problem and he asked me about a price range i was looking at, then he took down 3 guitars immediately and said, try these. Perfect! Now, im still narrowing down which one i want. And I will be back for one very soon. I love these old mom and pop shops. And the personalized service you get. I'm a professional guitar player who was visiting Philadelphia from the west coast and decided to check out local music stores. The store was clean but beyond appearances this place was terrible. All the guitars I tried were dirty and out of tune; I told an employee that the truss rod needed to be adjusted on one and he didn't know what that was (a music store employee should know what that means). I couldn't hear myself try the guitar because the sole employee was signing and playing at the top of his lungs. I then asked him about how the teacher employment worked at their store and not only could he not answer, but he couldn't give me anyone's email or phone number to contact with questions. It is the most awesome experience of my life. If you want to learn guitar..do it. It is the most rewarding experience of your life. He's a wonderful teacher with the coolest back ground. He's got great stories from his younger days playing with the Platters and Everly Brothers. I could not recommend this place more for lessons. His price is more than fair, if not to low. The one on one you'll get goes way past the 1/2 lesson!!!
