Argyll Hotel is perfectly located in the West End of Glasgow. When I arrived on the afternoon of Tuesday 16 July 2019, I found street parking in front of and surrounding the hotel. This helped relieve any stress I had about my car placement during check in. I made my way to the front desk and paid my $206 bill for two nights, which included free parking, and also went with the breakfast option in the morning. There was a small first-come first-serve parking lot out back that I immediately scoped out and deposited my car in. Since I did not want to lose the complementary parking, I decided to explore Glasgow on foot. This worked out great as the hotel was near the places I had prioritized at the top of my list to visit in Glasgow for my heritage travel trip to Scotland in July 2019. I got a room in the theme of Clan Stewart. The bed was large and comfy. A desk against the wall opposite the foot of the bed is where I wrote my postcards and bought a plane ticket for heritage travel to Ireland for the following year (when the COVID-19 pandemic happened, the airline - IcelandAir - refused to give me my refund and that trip still has not happened). While the airline might have tried to spoil the memory of my time in Scotland and here at Argyll Hotel specifically, they failed. I greatly enjoyed staying here. The bathroom in my room was private (not shared) and the curtains, a few of the pillows, and bed runner were in the Clan Stewart tartan. The closet and night stands had ample storage space for my belongings. Traffic past the hotel did not get too heavy and the nearby summer nightlife did not get too loud either. Breakfast was fabulous and was buffet style. How I accommodated this was to eat a large breakfast at the hotel, have snacks as needed for lunch, and then eat dinner out. This worked for my appetite and paired well with walking around the city. On my way out of Glasgow, I also learned the hotel was located not too far from a number of gas stations. This hotel cost us £510 for 2 nights = $680.14 (3 times as much as a Hampton Inn but not as nice). Our room was extremely uncomfortable and impractical. The "Standard double" room is so small you can't keep your luggage open because there would be no room to walk. It was a big hassle to have to open and close our suitcases twice a day. The bed is super soft, so it was uncomfortable and hard on the back. The room was very hot, yet there wasn't any way for us to control the temperature except by opening the window - rather risky since it was on the 1st floor and faces a parking lot. The furniture is worn and cheap; one of the bedside lamps didn't work. The only positive things about this hotel are the location and breakfast buffet (good food and good service). read more

Rooms are nice and clean, bathroom is well lit. There is a vanity in the room we stayed at which was helpful when checking emails and when using a laptop. The place looks well maintained, the dining are is gorgeous and the rooms are furnished nicely. It has more of a modern feel to it. Breakfast is served in the dining room and you have a choice of the hot foods or the cereals, fruits, and toast that is also offered. The staff here are also very friendly. Only downside is that the parking can be a pain, but they offer parking tickets with longer stay inside the hotel itself. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Myself and a friend have recently stayed at this hotel while attending a gig at the OVO Hydro last week (November 15th & 16th 2023). The only good thing this hotel has to offer, is it's location as it is walking distance from both the bus station and OVO Hydro. Other than that, this hotel should be shut down. My friend originally made the booking here and I strongly believe this hotel has seen 2 young women (one being from a foreign country with a distinct accent) and have believed they can scam us. We booked a one night stay. We were nothing but respectful of the hotel and staff, were not drunk and disorderly and came home quietly, ate some food and went to bed. Upon checking out of the hotel, approximately an hour later, we were charged £100. We called the hotel to be told there is "evidence" of smoking in our room which is against their policy. Neither myself or my friend smoke, only after we have had alcohol, we may have one or two. We did have 1 or 2 cigarettes after a drink which were smoked outside, one of these which they can clearly see on CCTV and the receptionist came outside to chat to us while we were smoking so they are well aware that we smoked outside of the hotel. They have been incredibly rude during this whole ordeal, taking the money before informing us and creating financial strain in the middle of a cost of living crisis for something we have not done. We are basically being told they have evidence of smoking and it is their word against ours. I have asked for this evidence and have been provided with evidence of "mess" we have left, which was a photograph of inside the bin which in fact proves we put our rubbish in the appropriate place. Not only that, after their charge was declined from one bank account, they then proceeded to use alternative methods to make sure they have stolen the money from my friend's bank account. They are now refusing to return the money. They also in fact sent an email thanking us for standing outside to smoke therefore admitting they know we went outside. There are many other reviews of this nature which the hotel hides from public viewing. This is happening often to many of their guests. They charge low prices for their hotel but then scam you on leaving to grab some extra money. This is unacceptable and fraudulent activity in my opinion. When asking for my money back, evidence or some sort of compassion towards the situation, I have been told I will be reported to their so called "legal" department and been sent very threatening and rude emails in return basically telling us we are lying. Moreover, the hotel was disgusting. The corridors were filled with building equipment, the lift nearly breaks every time you step into it and the room was unclean on arrival. We would have also quite liked to watch TV, but this did not work either. Our shoes were sticking to the carpet therefore it clearly has not been cleaned for a long time. The breakfast was pathetic, with lack of option and the scrambled egg was so watery. On the back of all of this, I have now reported this hotel to Trading Standards as I believe they are scamming their guests regularly. I have also reported the hotel for lack of health and safety due to their unstable lift, construction equipment in the corridors and throughout the hotel and the fact that had we have smoked in their hotel room, where was the smoke alarm? I either didn't smoke (which I didn't) or the hotel does not have acceptably fitted smoke alarms. read more

Terrible. The front desk staff was unhelpful and appears to hate his job. He completely disappeared when we went to leave. The hotel advertised with parking but none exists. The front desk handed us a flyer listing public parking lots blocks away with meters that need to be fed every three hours. We spent more time trying to find parking than we did driving from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Finally gave up and found The Georgian a half block away with great staff and a private parking lot. Avoid the Argyll. Book the Georgian instead. read more

Western Argyll first tried to tell us our booking through the Great Circle didn't exist, and then that a new staff deleted it. You can read more about our experience on their page. We were sent to their sister hotel, Argyll, despite booking at Western Argyll for specific reasons. We presented our voucher for a twin room when we arrived. We were told we were being placed in the only available room because our booking wasn't in the system, but they were honoring the voucher. We were placed in a room with four beds on the first floor facing the street. The radiator was turned to 14/14 and it was as hot as the devil's butt-crack when we arrived. We were woken up several times by drunk people yelling at the top of their lungs. Flash forward to the next morning, we had to pack up our belongings and were told we were being moved from 105 to 209. We then go down for breakfast and a dining room staff informed us we were switched back to 105. Since we had already packed I asked them to allow us to move rooms and originally decided, and they agreed to keep us in 209. When we returned after a long day of sight seeing we were told we were going into room 202. Once we arrived in 202 we realized it was one double bed when our voucher designated a twin bed. They reported it's all they could offer us because they were full. Magically, they found our booking that "didn't exist" the night before and said The Great Circle messed up our booking and we would need to speak with them. When told the Great Circle wasn't open until Monday we got the "oh well" minded response. There was no offer for a cot or an extra blanket. There was no interest in trying to fix anything on their end that the Argyll hotel system messed up in the first place by giving our booking away at Western, and then not successfully changing our rooms as discussed. The experiences with Western Argyll and Argyll have by and far been the worst I've ever had at any hotel in any country. Vacations are expensive. A trip to Scotland happens once in a lifetime. Argyll had no issue ruining parts of that experience with sleepless nights and poor customer service. I can't tell you what to do, but I'd encourage you to look elsewhere. read more

HORRIBLE!!!! I am an avid world traveler & have never had such a horrific, dirty, and unprofessional experience such as this one! I have traveled to over 20 countries outside of the U.S.A. and have never encountered such gross negligence! After checking in, walking down 2 flights of stairs to get to my "upgraded' room which looked like a dungeon, we were placed in a room of filth!!! Where should I start? Let's start with the wrinkled bedding that looked like someone had slept in the bed & maid service did not change the sheets. Let's talk about both the pet hair & human hair that was on the bed & table where coffee maker (next to the hairdryer - ummm pretty unsanitary) is located. After contacting reception someone came over & looked shocked as if staying in filth was a problem. We were informed that both housekeeping & the manager were off duty until tomorrow. Mind you it wasn't 4pm, talk about bankers hours for the service industry... a travesty. The solution was to place us in a room next door which appeared to be more modern... this accommodation was just for the evening! We were informed the room would be cleaned tomorrow, then we had to return to it. Mind you the room we were in had 4 beds and room next door had 3 beds but we were told it had to accommodate a family on tomorrow. The receptionist accused me of being nasty with her when I requested to stay in the room since the 2nd set of beds in the original room was clean & I did not want to move back & forth. As she got flustered she left & told me do what I want. The 2nd room was cleaner. When I went to look at it, someone else called from the front desk & stated we could not stay in noth rooms... but had to stay in one room or get charged an extra fee. How does a hotel run efficiently with no house keeping or Manager on staff? This place is horrible & unprofessional.... next call will be to the booking agent!!!!! read more

If you're looking for a good old fashioned hotel - then the Argyll Hotel is for you. Yes, it's a little small, and more than a little chintzy, but it has character enough to make up for both these things, and that's sure good enough for me. You'll find the Argyll Hotel on the stretch of Sauchiehall Street by the Kelvingrove - you know the bit, where every single building is a hotel. (Convienient, I suppose, if you fancy a bit of hotel hopping). It's definitely more of a traditional hotel, especially compared to the 'holiday inn' type places that seem to be taking over the world. It's well placed for both Glasgow city centre and the West End of the city, so if you are planning a visit to Glasgow - this is a great option. There are also a huge number of great restaurants and cafes in the vicinity - so you won't go hungry either! And there's a pub in the basement. Plus, their bedrooms are named after Scottish Clans. Can't say this would encourage me any further - but I know a lot of people would get very excited by this... read more

I booked a night here because it looked quite nice on other travel sites. It was very disappointing that my stay did not in any way live up to expectations. The first room we were given was in the annex across the street and was below street level. The room itself had a funky, off smell and the dirty, lone sock and used bar of soap on the floor was not a great welcome. Aside from these, the room looked old and one that was not at all comfortable. More akin to a bad hostel (no offense to hostelers). We were able to change rooms(in the same building) and this was a step above, literally. It was at least at street level but again nowhere near the level of the photos posted here. To boot, in exchange for a better smelling room, the wifi signal did not reach our location. Ugh. We decided to bear it for one night. I slept on a towel just in case if that gives an indication of the cleanliness. The area is great and the front desk was helpful but I wish the hotel didn't have such disparate choices in rooms. I would have happily paid extra for one of the cozy rooms displayed on their website. read more

If your going to a concert at the Glasgow SECC this is the perfect place to stay as it's only a 10 - 15 minute walk , Ideal !! This is a small guest house but it's nicely decorated and is a good price , breakfast is pricey but there are plenty of places to eat in Glasgow! I recommed this guest house ! read more

This is my favourite budget hotel in Glasow, the staff are so friendly and helpfull. The only thing i dont like about it is it is quite a bit out off Glasgow. You go along suchiehall street past all the shops and on and on over the moterway and you get my drift . It is however quite a good hotel to stay in if you are going to the secc and at around 45 a night you cant complain. read more
