Recently brought my car here on a recommendation from a friend. My first visit was standard and all seemed OK. Owner seemed like a nice guy, family man and typical mechanic in that he was no nonsense. The second visit was completely different. My care was starting to overheat so I dropped it off on a Saturday morning. I soon received a call telling me the head gasket was shot and the repair would be between $1800-2500. He told me that because the car was 10 years old and had just over 100k miles I should consider getting another car. He then offered me a car he was attempting to sell. I explained that I did not have the money for something new and the repair would be the most economical option. He suggested I think about it over the weekend and let him know on Monday morning. I called Monday morning a little before 9, told them to precede with the work and call me at the end of the day with an update. After I did not hear from them I called at 4 and got the answering machine. I left a message and since they closed at 6 I assumed I would get called back. I didn't. I called twice on Tuesday, leaving messages both time. No reply I called Wednesday in the morning leaving a message and then tried again in the afternoon only to have the owners wife answer. She told me they had not started working on my car but she would have her husband call me before close of business. He didn't. On Thursday at around noon I was told I could pick up the car on Friday but the would call to tell me when. I was then told the cost was $1186. When I asked what was done I was told by his wife that it was the work he said would be done (he didn't tell me what would be done, only what he thought it was). On Friday I was called at 1PM and told I could pick up the car at 2PM as they were closing early. I told them I had to walk to the bank to get the money and then walk to them to get the car. I said I should be there by 2PM and would call if I was going to cut it close. The wife said fine and hung up. Five minutes later the wife called back and told me that the mechanic did not want to wait and that I should pick up the car on Monday. When I asked if they could give me 15 minutes as I could arrange a ride and that I needed my car she said he didn't want to wait and hung up. On Monday I got to the garage when they opened at 8 and when I was counting out the money I realized I had $1140, I was 28 dollars short. I then said I would pay them $1100 cash and the rest with my debit card. The owner exploded and started cursing me out. He told me I should go to the ATM and get the cash and when I told him I couldn't as I was starting a new job that day and needed to be on my way, he exploded again and continued to rant and rave as he got my car from the lot. My ex who drove me and was waiting was so shaken she was actually close to calling the police as she thought he could become violent. After I left I looked at the receipt of work done and it wasn't the head gasket after all but the radiator and thermostat. So, he basically assumed what was wrong and tried to get me to buy a car he wanted to get rid of, kept my car for over a week for repairs that could have been completed in one day (costing me a days pay for work I could not do for lack of my car) and then acted like a complete lunatic when I was prepared to pay in full, just not in the way he wanted to. Avoid at all cost. Made promises about repair schedule that he couldn't keep. Over a month and still no work done. And then had the nerve to blame me, the customer. read more

I give this place no stars if I could. This guy overcharged me for repairs he did on my truck and wanted to strong-arm me into doing repairs I did not want. When I told him I did not want to do those repairs he tried to hold my car hostage. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP. read more

If I could, I'd give this place zero stars. I went to this shop for a brake job, which cost $1,000. The car broke down two weeks after that and needed a fuel pump, which cost another $1,000. Two weeks after this, the car broke down, again, and it needed a fuel injector. He wanted $650. I had enough of this owner and went to a different shop. They were able to do the new job for $350 and said the other repairs were exorbitantly priced. Also, the owner must have seen how bad of shape the fuel injector was in when fixing the fuel pump. He could've replaced both since it's the labor, rather than the cost, that is expensive. Definitely marked me as a sucker and thought he could receive extra cash for labor. Avoid at all costs. read more

Went in for an inspection, no other customers in the store. The two employees at the front, one on the phone the other told me they would be right with me. Then, one called an employee from the back to go over some paperwork. The other guy ended his call and was doing something on the computer. I just stood there getting more upset. Five or so minuets went by with me just standing there, then the guy on the computer gets up and walks off. So, I left, won't ever go back, guess I was on the wrong schedule for them. read more

I've read the bad reviews, but they're not anything like my experience with Joe at Argyle. He's always been honest with us, never "found" something to fix if he didn't really find anything wrong, and we've never had a problem with a repair once it was completed. They're not cheap, but what auto mechanic is? And I don't want a cheap auto mechanic anyway, I'd worry they were cutting corners, and that's not something I can accept in the car that's carrying my kid around. read more

I brought my van into this place because I needed an inspection. My check engine light was on. We were charged $700 for repairs snd it took several days. The van was then give back to us with a temporary inspection. We were then to to drive the car for one week, then bring it back for the inspection sticker. 3 days later, the check engine light came back on! We returned the van to the shop. Still no inspection sticker! They again kept the car for 3 more days!! We took it back yet again and again we were told to drive it some more. The light came back on again! 3rd time, back to the shop. 3 more days he had it. We were told then to pick it up, charged an additional $170. Brought the car home, sticker attached. Check engine light off. Perfection! A day later, darn light was on yet again! Foolishly, we brought our 2 me car for an inspection. This one was held for 2 days. We rede iced a call that we could pick up the car, and were charged $37 for the inspection. When we went to pick the car up, we were told the car failed. We were given no options as to why or given any option to repair it. We took the car home Without an inspection sticker and are now forced to go to smother mechanic! I would advise no one to ever use Argyle auto at any time. The customer service stinks. read more
