Housed in the former CoOp building at the west end of the High Street the International Supermarket…read moreis a one-stop shop for those looking for the ingredients to a healthy Mediterranean diet. A very wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables. The fresh herbs and leaves are especially good value compared to the main British supermarkets. Personally I have a short list of regular items I buy from the International Supermarkets, items that are not usually available in Sainsbury's for example. - Tim's Cypriot Style Yogurt (British made) - Halloumi cheese - Goat's & sheep's cheese - Interesting range of sweet and hot peppers - Huge bunches of fresh flat-leafed parsley - Olives from the deli counter - Fresh Turkish style bread (before I got the breadmaker) - Cold-Extracted Olive Oil They also have impressive sections for dried pulses and grains including Bulgar, cous-cous, fragrant rice and all the colours of lentils under the sun. The pasta section is interesting too, from the minute up to pre-formed cannelloni tubes.

Since moving to Walthamstow this store has become my favourite place to shop for food…read more They stock a fabulous range of fruit and vegetables at a great price, and nice, big bunches of herbs for much less than Sainsburys up the road. Olives are sold at much less than you'd find them at fancy food markets, and while you are there don't forget to check out the spices to the left of the olive counter. Beans and pulses of all kinds are on offer, also a huge variety of nuts and dried fruits. Well worth a visit even if it's just to look around. The manager may ask you to leave big bags at the front of the store, due to the ongoing problem they have with shop lifting!

Anyone who's been to this Sainsburys Local will know how annoying it is, the aisles are without…read moredoubt the narrowest in any chain supermarket anywhere so much so that to walk past someone you have to both shuffle sideways, and if anyone's actually stopped to look at the shelves then you can imagine what happens! Somehow it still works though, maybe in London we're just used to crowds of people from using the tube and whatnot so you still manage to get in there and get what you need - and they do seem to have almost everything you'd find in a normal Sainsburys Local somehow neatly squashed in there. The bizarre effect it has though is that whenever I go to a different one they always feel so roomy and I feel like I'm in some kind of luxury paradise version with ample room to stroll around without bumping into people!

I like this store. The only other nearby ones have the following problems:…read more * Lots of corner shops and even the big ones are far too snack heavy and lacking real food. * Lots of exotic shops that offer people to taste of home rather than real good food. * Some of the independent stores stopped selling alcohol because of all the hobo battles. A few of them might try to set you up with their daughters. * McDonald's is 24/7 but makes me fat. Has no food drinks only children's sugary drinks. Doesn't stock essential conveniences such as toilet paper. * Eating things from Iceland really hurts my teeth. It's all really cold and hard. * If I eat food from Tesco it makes my bum sore every time. They also hire very sad people who get lonely so they try to stop you from leaving. The Sainburies isn't bad with none of the above problems but as express stores go it is crammed into a really small footprint. The range of food isn't bad considering the small footprint but it's not ideal and isn't going to stock an amazing range of items. The opening times are also not the best for me. Because the store is so crammed it's a bit gloomy and depressing. The checkout area has ultra compact machines that seem often broken and the security seems a bit overbearing because of the confined space as well as the crummy area they're in. I don't know what it's like at busy hours but I can't imagine it's pleasant. If a queue forms it will immediately start to cut into the shopping area creating a kind of shop while you queue dynamic.
