My husband and I adopted our adolescent Pit mix (Shani) 7 months ago. She was very social, outgoing and had a good grasp of basic obedience commands. Things were going well as first time NYC dog owners until she unexpectedly nipped someone. After wallowing in guilt, self pity and bewilderment of "where did we go wrong?!" we quickly realized our dog needed to learn how to handle life beyond the basic sit, down, stay. When every trip to the curb involves potential socialization with other dogs, skate boarders, sirens, crowded sidewalks and the occasional suspicious stranger, you realize that city life demands a higher education of both human and canine. Enter Josh Donahue, dog trainer extraordinaire! We were not only able to openly voice our concerns about Shani without judgment, but were also reminded that while we can work on the instigating issue, better and lasting results come from building a relationship and strong foundation of obedience. Going back to the basics if you will. What we thought we had been handling fine on our own we learned that we could definitely improve on! Josh was able to teach us how to become confident leaders for Shani and improve on the areas in our training that were lacking. He was open to hearing how we had been training previously, learning Shani's temperament, what motivated her and making sure that coming to train was fun for both her and her owners. After 2 months of training, we've noticed overwhelming improvements in our relationship with Shani, her understanding of obedience commands and what is expected of her in our household, her ability to walk on the leash, her ability to handle social situations with less hyper-activity and unpredictability, and her overall self confidence and happiness. All three of us eagerly look forward to our training sessions with Josh! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to get quality service without breaking the bank. A deeper and more fun relationship with your dog is automatically included. read more
