I went to Thorncrest Farm today based on the website and previous reviews, expecting the advertised…read more"Meet Our Girls" experience -- an opportunity to meet the cows, learn about them, and possibly feed them. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we had. We were able to see the cows, but only Beauty was in a pen close to the opening. There was another cow nearby with no name or information posted. There was no one in the barn area to talk with us, answer questions, introduce us to the cows, or tell us anything about them. We went into the chocolate shop specifically to ask about the "Meet Our Girls" experience. The young woman working at the front was very nice and did her best to help, but she didn't know much about the cows. She was able to tell us that one of the cows provides the milk used for the caramels and that milk from a mixture of the cows is used to make the chocolate. That was disappointing because it was very different from the experience we believed was being promoted on the website and described in reviews. If you grew up in Connecticut around farms, simply seeing cows in a barn isn't really a "unique experience." What would have made Thorncrest unique was actually getting to meet the girls, learn their names and personalities, hear about the different cows and their milk, and have someone there who could answer questions. We did buy the chocolate, and it is DELICIOUS! I would absolutely recommend stopping for the chocolate. I just wish the "Meet Our Girls" experience had lived up to what was advertised. Based on our visit, I would go knowing that the unique experience is really the chocolate shop -- not necessarily meeting the girls.

The donuts are actually very good. My review is not about the food…read more The ambience is very simple and basic -- tables with a couple of chairs, nothing elaborate or particularly decorative. It's best for one or two people, although a small group of three or four could certainly go. If you're looking for something casual and straightforward, it works. My problem is with two things: what happened during payment and the complete lack of accountability afterward. I ordered takeout for $18.25. The employee handling my payment entered a $2.04 tip on the iPad himself, turned it toward me and said, "just sign." I did not authorize that tip. My receipt clearly shows "TIPS: $2.04." Yes, it's only $2.04. The amount isn't the point. An employee should not be deciding how much a customer is going to tip. What bothers me just as much is what happened afterward. I called twice and left messages. I then emailed management/ownership with the receipt and documentation and gave them an opportunity to simply refund the $2.04. No call. No email. No response. Employees can make mistakes or bad decisions. Management's responsibility is to address the problem when it's brought to their attention. Ignoring the customer only makes it worse. And please don't respond now with a generic "We're sorry you feel this way" or "Please contact us." I already contacted you multiple times. If you're going to respond publicly, address what actually happened. Good donuts. Simple, basic atmosphere. Bad payment experience. Even worse accountability afterward. My advice: keep your receipt and compare it with what actually posts to your card.

When I asked her which 3 milks did she use for her tres leches cake, I asked because the recipe I use has coconut milk. She said that she can't use coconut milk because "this is Connecticut" which I'm guessing means that even something as bland as coconut milk is probably too exotic for Connecticut WASPs.
