Pabellon, Tequeno & Pastelito

Support Victor and order arepas! Delicious food to take with you to the park or at home. Yummy! Try them. Do it!

guava pastelitos
Mia Z.

Ordered the special arepas box which came with two arepas, 4 tequenos, and 2 pastelitos for $25. I also ordered a side of aioli and guac sauce. I received an email after ordering that said I should pick up the order from 891 Post street in 45 minutes. I went there but it obviously wasn't the correct location. Victor called me asking where I was and told me I should meet him at Ofarrel street in front of Nico's Pizza. This was a bit confusing but no big deal. I would just warn you that the email you receive may not have the correct pick up location. Victor showed up carrying orders for the day in one of those carrying cases for hot food. I kind of felt bad for him- cooking all these orders himself then getting out there on foot or bike and delivering them too? It just seems like a lot to do. Anyways, on to the food. I miss Pica Pica- that was my go to arepa place- but it shut down permanently during shelter in place. I am so happy to say that these arepas were equally good and less expensive. The portions are generous and the tequenos are better. The only thing I really miss are the free sauces from Pica Pica. I live on the Peninsula and if Victor was out here I would probably get takeout from him at least once a week. Loved my meal. (Side note- you should find a way to deliver out here and promote the fact that arepas are gluten free since all the yuppy foodie gluten free vegan blah blah blah people seem to live in Palo Alto and the vicinity) Give this place a try! It's really tasty, great portions, and a good deal. I will make this place a regular order when I'm craving arepas. And Victor seems like a nice and very hard-working dude so support your local chefs!

Very good taste, I have not try Venezuelan food in a while and this took me back to my roots Thanks to chef Victor, my stay in San Francisco couldn't be better. We tried tequeños, empanadas, ice cream with dulce de leche, arepas of chicharron and my favorite Cachapas the best taste in San Francisco if you wanna tried Venezuelan food follow him, definitively a very good experience, I'll back whenever I have a chance. Enjoy!

Bandeja paisa

I have been struggling to find good Colombian arepas around the area, but since arepas en bici I started to enjoy arepas again, last weekend we ordered bandeja paisa (a traditional dish from Colombia) and It was delicious

I got the YES meal from the Yelp elite event. It came with 2 arepas, 2 guava pastelitos, and 2 tequeños. I ordered the reina and the pabellon for the arepas. They were both good but I would recommend the reina over the pabellon. The reina arepa had really great shredded chicken and tasted amazing. I also loved the tequeños and the pastelitos. The tequeños had the best cheese pull for those who enjoy a good pull. And wow I have been craving good guava pastelitos since I had them in NY and couldn't find a good place here in SF. Highlight of my day to finally taste good guava pastelitos again! Lastly, the owner and employees were super friendly and nice! I would recommend this place for sure.

I've been stalking these arepas on Instagram (@arepasenbici) for weeks and finally made my way into the city today to pick them up. If you live in SF, Chef Victor will deliver them to you on his bike! We got the Pabellon (shredded beef, plantains, black beans and cheese), Sifrina (shredded chicken, avocado, guasacaca and cheese) and the Beef Pastelitos. Everything was delicious - very high quality ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors.

We went to San Francisco for the day, and I was craving arepas, so I googled a place and found Arepas En Bici. I didn't read the info or website as i had assumed it was a takeout place, but after driving by a few times (and not finding it) I decided to call. Victor was incredibly friendly, and explained briefly about his business. I placed an order online, and shortly after went to pick it up. Food was well packed and well presented. He does use the same box for more than one item, but the boxes are big, and I particularly didn't have an issue with the food sharing space. The Arepa de Pabellón was insanely out of this world. The taste of the the shredded beef was excellent, and the arepa was really tasty, and filling! The tequeños were good! My son ate a few and then kidnapped the rest for "later".... I only got to take a bite of one, because he liked them a lot. The Guayaba Pastelitos were really nice too! I did think that it could have had a little more cheese, but they were truly delicious. Finally, I didn't try the cheese empanada we got, but my son had it for breakfast next morning and loved it too. In all, it was a yummy lunch/dinner!

Dom

Tried the Dom (v) and Bella (v) and was blown away by the Dom. The plantains and black bean combo had so much flavor and was very decently portioned. Guava pastelitos and tequeños were also delicious. Will def be back to try more- love that there are so many vegetarian options

Website states accepts credit cards and Takeout. Neither of this is true.Takeout=picking up from a secured establishm. This is hover pickup

As a first time customer (takeout), my excitement quickly dissipated. It started shortly after Arepas En Bici notified me that my food was ready. Despite his Yelp page indicating that credit cards are accepted (contrary information on their website) he denied accepting credit cards. Before I could arrive at the location, I had to get cash. During my trip to pick up my food, he contacted me another 3 times!! Why? Because apparently, this establishment is really NOT a TAKEOUT. IT is a meet at a "location on the sidewalk of such and such #." He had other orders to fulfill and was growing impatient standing on the sidewalk! The actual address where the food is prepared is not disclosed. He only, mentions, "a few blocks away." Why the secrecy? When I arrived, I asked him why he did not communicate with me the circumstance that there was in fact NO physical structure and time urgency. He, not once but 3x insisted that it was ALL spell out on the website! Photos attached proved otherwise. Summary experience: 1. Why is the food being prepared "a few blocks away"? 2. NO where on his website or Yelp states that his "TAKEOUT" is a time sensitive situation due to the sidewalk juggling act. **His website says "ONLY one chef in the kitchen." That means there is only one person preparing food. Chef does not mean personnel, host, waiter, other assistance. Chef, for simplicity means a person that prepares the food. Not only did he not take responsibility for a situation he created, he tried to blame me! 3. I paid cash and he did not return my change. 4. He stuffed three orders into one box.

Arepa with black beans, avocado and plantain

My former partner is half Venezuelan and would talk non-stop about arepas and how his mom made them all the time. I didn't realize that I missed arepas so much and then I happened on Arepas En Bici and just ordered. Yes, he's on a bike, which is amazing. He has good communication and told me he would be delivering my order early, which was fine. I got my order and once I had a small break, ate my first arepa. It was divine. So good and the arepas are bigger than what I am used to. The fillings are wonderful and one arepa is good enough for a meal, that's how filling they are. I am going to try the empanadas, tequeños and the pastelitos with my next order.

Bomb flavors. With a plantain!

Walking on 16th street you will find many different types of cafes and restaurants. There are some restaurants which have been there for decades and some there for years. You will find cuisines from China, Philippines, Thailand , El Salvador , Vietnam, Spain, Italy , Mexico ,Pakistan, and some Americana bites like the Pittsburgh sandwich( from Pennsylvania not California). There is one place which is named after a South American dish where you can enjoy food from Venezuela and it is called Arepas. Walking down memory lane by strolling down 16th street where the young Don Juan grew up in San Francisco I landed at Arepas. Inside there are lots of tables and a full bar along with a wine bar which serves Rosé , Malbec from Argentina , Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile , and Pinot Noir from California ( like Don Juan Pinot Noir). On the menu you will find chicharron ceviche with plantain chips. You will also find Venezuelan empanadas with cheese , beef, and plantain Maduro ( not talking about Maduro the ex-President of Venezuela). They also have hella arepas. The arepas are often compared to tacos and pupusas. I find them a bit different since they are gluten free but they both have lots of similarities. I got the Arepas Santa Barbara with steak and shredded cheese and on a grilled corn pocket. It was a bit cheesy and a bit corny like some in SF. The Arepa Catira had chicken and shredded cheese and crispy lettuce . It was savory and tasty. Come to Arepas to get some Arepas. Also no way you can beat these prices for such good quality. For drinks, I started with a Venezuelan limeade made with raw sugar cane and fresh lime -- bright and refreshing. For starters, I went with the Empanada de Carne Molida: crispy corn masa stuffed with seasoned ground beef and potato, finished with just enough sugar to round it out. Then came the Pollo Valenciano -- smoky, beer-brined rotisserie chicken with deep flavor without overdoing the seasoning. The vegetarian fried rice had a subtle cumin note(I believe?) that might be an acquired taste. I would ask if you can sub the veggie rice for another rice maybe the arroz especial loaded with chicken and ham. Finished strong with the stir fry beef flat noodles -- smoky wok flavor, silky noodles, and melt-in-your-mouth beef. Easily enough for two. I can definitely say Cantoo is a very unique cuisine that makes me want to come back for more.

You Guava be Kidding Me…read more A bakery and juicery that has been serving up delicious Colombian specialties since 1999 in Colombia, before emigrating to the US and opening up shop here in Cambrian Park in 2014. Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

I wanted to get some desert items but they seemed to have very few things to choose from. I would have asked questions but inside the store was strangely loud and the woman who helped me was a low talker so I couldn't understand anything she was saying to me as it was. The empanadas are pretty large, as are the prices. $17 for the two. At this price point I was glad I decided not to buy more. Each comes with a tiny side of aji green sauce. They could have been more generous here. I found the spinach to be very salty and more breading than filling. The chicken one was a letdown. Chicken was lacking any flavor. For both the pastry was dry. Was only able to eat half of each and threw the rest away. Not really the kind of place you dine in for. You order at the counter and there is limited seating inside (in a way that makes you not want to dine in), and a few seats outside. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. This visit and subsequent review makes me feel sad. I want to support these unique, independent eateries but they make it difficult when the quality doesn't meet the high cost. Improvements would be to reevaluate their recipes, make the pastries less dry and dense, and maybe don't be so skimpy on the fillings.
