Horrible value. I should have known better. I got locked out of a room at my in-laws house. My father in-law passed away unexpectedly and we were trying to get his affairs in order. They charge a reasonable rate for the service call. But once they got there, they said it would be difficult and time consuming to pick the lock on the door. They quoted me $290. I reluctantly agreed, thinking "okay, they said it will be a difficult job.". It took literally 5 seconds to pick the lock. They were there for only 5 to 10 minutes. They still charged me $290, plus the cost of the service call. I will never use them again no matter how desperate I am. Rip-off artists! read more

Yelp challenge 2015. 265/365 I am always losing keys, not my keys, but the hubsters. I have been here multiple times over the years. Once when I misplaced my husbands only car key. They made a magical copy no problem. Luckily I found the keys a few months later. Used them again when I had to change our area locks when someone stole our car that I lost the key to and the house keys were in it. This one was not my fault. They made a house call for this one. And we got the car back a few days later. Again when I snapped a storage unit key in half. The only storage unit key we had. Okay that was not my fault. I wasn't even the last one to use the key. When I stuck it in, the lock was super tight, then POP the key snapped right in half. Luckily I have a tool set in the car and used my needle nose to gently pull the key out. And luckily it was a clean break. I brought them the tip of my broken key and BAM, just like that...a new key. And it actually worked. This place is super tiny. Located at Dale and Lincoln. I found this place on Yelp, thank goodness. I have an 89 prelude that needed a new key. I tired a few places but they weren't able to cut a key that works because the car is so old. I can't recall his name, I believe he is the owner, he was fantastic. He told me to test the key and if it didn't work he'd come out to the car until it did. And he did. This is a great place for getting a key made, fast and cheap. If you're referred to an outside vender, be sure you ask what the service charge will be and the price of any parts necessary for the service rendered. Recently, I was quoted and paid a price that was later discovered to be five times the actual price of the part necessary to complete the job. The vender admitted the mistake and refunded the amount over a reasonable estimate of the service and parts. I would still use this vender, but I would ask better questions beforehand. If you're quoted a price for a part, double check with your mechanic (as I did) or a part store to guarantee you are paying a fair market price for the part. read more

ON how to stash a key on your car for when you go surfing or cuz you need to stash a key on your car so you don't get locked out or something. My car had a custom paint job. where they inserted a protector to keep the paint from getting in it. I went in several weeks ago needing a key for my car. The owner of the business went ahead and made it for me (I had purchased a blank key w/ fob online) and he noticed once completed that it was not the same thickness as the original (due to the thickness of the blank key I provided). He made several attempts and decided to use the laser cutter. Once this was completed, the key fit but would not turn the car on. The gentleman then took apart the key fob and replaced the 'chip'. The key finally worked. I really appreciated the hard work just to make a key. I wasn't charged extra for the additional work required. I will definitely return if I ever have a need for a locksmith. About the store; it is small and very unique. There are several safes and locks (new and previously owned) on display. There appears to be an endless supply of different keys to meet whatever the special needs the customer has. Very friendly. read more

We must have driven by Area Lock and Safe a hundred times on our way to OCBC or Rancho Alamitos High but never noticed it. They are open until 2 PM on Saturdays and we needed a laser key cut. In and out in 10 minutes after a perfect cut and after checking to make sure it all worked. Pleasant and efficient. They also have older reclaimed indoor bedroom and bathroom door knobs for sale. These are ones they don't make anymore but came with your home if built in the 60's or 70's. They come in handy instead of replacing every knob to match. Thanks for your help! read more
