I blank you not, at times i felt like i was chilling at a spot in Punta Cana while dining here. This is authentic Dominican cuisine with a healthy amount of latin and tex mex favorites to allow the less adventurous locals to enjoy great food too. I was told by a family friend about this place, you don't find that many latin caribbean infused restaurants in the south for sure. It was nice to know there was a place here that could provide a few varieties of latin dishes, given that I am latin myself missing home. Let's begin when we arrived I was glad to know that they do have outdoor eating which allows pet, as a dog mom that's always a plus for me. Our server was kind to give my pup some water and they do provide a dog bowl as well. As for the food, I went ahead & ordered the 'Pollo con Tajadas' a Honduran dish with fried chicken, plantain chips, mixed greens topped with pickled onions and cojita cheese. I would like to say first that I am impressed by the different entrees offered, shows that some research has been done to provide such a menu of many latin dishes. I would give it an 8, the plantain chips needed to be fried longer and sliced thinner. They require a crunch that wasn't matched. They were still good. they just more so gave tostones vibes; which is still plantain but the cut & texture are quite different from one another. Needless to say I would go back to try more of the other dishes for sure, this place has a lot of potential and could definitely see this location becoming a popular place for dancing and being a lounge on the weekends. We looked up restaurant this one had 5 reviews so we decided to try it today for lunch. We had empanadas with beef and yucca balls. Both were delicious. Next came a cornmeal pocket filled with pork. Yum. Then our main course the grilled pork steak, Cuban rice and veggies for my son and I had the recommended stewed chicken with Cuban rice and plantains. Everything was so good. My son told me this may have been the best pork he has ever had to date. We both tried each other's meals. Everything was great the service was excellent and the food was even better. Run to this place it's truly worth every penny. P.S. the owner even gave me a hug and said Merry Christmas my kind of family own grateful people. We will be back. read more

I wish ai could give six, maybe seven stars. Ever since my trips to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, I am a huge mofongo fan. The ambiance and friendliness of the staff both remind me of those awesome vacations. The food was spot on! Absolutely perfect. So much so, that I went two nights in a row when I was in town for work. The shrimp cocktail was the best I have ever had, and the roasted pork with mofongo was incredible. The portions are very large, so don't over order like I tend to do. So, again, this was over two nights... I would do some sketchy stuff for sweet plantains, so that was a must, and I also got the fried cheese with guava sauce. So so so good. Honestly, I can't wait to go back. Really friendly staff and really cool interior. They also have a large covered patio area with outside couches and it has a really cool vibe. They allow dogs on the patio and offer pup cups which I love! The food is quite different from most Latin restaurants and I love that. Flavors are satisfying and robust. It offers a wide variety of authentic food from different regions throughout South America. They have live music some nights and it's very lively with a wide variety of music. My only two complaints are that they do not offer tacos. It's such a staple in South American cooking and it's my go to. I could eat authentic street style tacos morning, noon and night. I know they would be so good as the choices of meat they offer are delicious. I also wish they had more selections of salsa. Or any salsa. They only have a creamy cilantro or chipotle aioli. No salsa! Everything else is on point and once again the staff and owner are all so hospitable. Great customer service. read more

Grew up on island food and this place did not disappoint. Was slow night and sat solo at the bar. Ordered two appetizers a yucca beef ball and empanada. Beef ball tasted great but was cold in the middle. The rice and beans was delicious along with mofongo that had just the right amount of garlic sauce. Red beans were seasoned well and very tasty side dish. Chicken came with a sauce on it not advertised but very tasty. Only hiccup was the hot sauce was spoiled that was given. Bar tender was very friendly and prompt with service. Will definitely come back to try their other dishes. The food was amazing, the Grandma Style Rice (Mampostiao) was delicious, the sweet plantains cooked with the peppers and pork belly mixed with the rice was one of the best rice dishes I've ever had, my husband enjoyed the yucca ball with beef, and you can NOT skip the Sweet Plantains! Not only was the food incredible, the service staff was incredibly attentive and took great care of everyone in the group we were with. Well cooked Baked shredded pork, full of flavor and seasoning very tasty. Cuban rice lots of flavor could have been a touch less crunchy but very good. Plantain's sweet, tender and tasty. The stewed Oxtails were the best and perfectly cooked. Even my wife who does not eat Beef thought the pan drippings were amazing. Both of us had the cuban rice. The Tres Leches cake so good perfect way to end the meal. Our waiter was amazing offering good suggestions and understanding the menu. This restaurant is amazing!! The food is awesome, so flavorful and plenty of it. The waitress was attentive (not overly so tho). The restaurant is clean and comfortable. There is a covered outdoor eating area with what looked like small bar and a stage that a band was setting up in. GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! So i am from NYC and moved down to Port Arthur/Beaumont Tax (Military) and i have been craving Authentic Dominican/Puerto Rican Food for quite some time. I stumbled upon this place from a IG video that i viewed. Upon looking at the videos and the quality of the dishes and the perceived authentic flavors and cooking styles, i decided to entertain the 1hr drive to support them and given them a try. Upon walking in, the aesthetics of the place looks rustic, very mild "Old School" look, a whole bunch of vintage decor, it made me feel like i was in the Caribbean in a way. I was greeted by a Spanish woman with all black, might of been central/South American because she didn't understand alot of what I asked for on the menu. I asked for "Emapandas", "Congris", "Tamarindo mojito" and either she didnt know the menu or maybe the terminology of what i was saying was not registering to her. Either way, me and my wife ordered two drinks. I ordered the Tamarindo Mojito and the empanadas. Drink took a few minutes to come out but the Tamarindo Mojito was phenomenal!! It had authentic pulp from the fruit and was mixed great! Never tried one before but this was great, mojito leaves were not rotten or slimy like some other places Ive been to. Empanadas were good, the beef was seasoned well, but the outside was unique. Not sure if it was corn or flour, but not traditional as what you may try in a typical spot. I think it was a yuca empanada. But it was great either way. We order the entrees, I got the Pernil with the monfongo and congri and tostones, my wife got the chicken with the moro and the kids got chicken and french fries. Overall the food was above average. PROS: Food had great flavor, was cooked well within temperatures and wasn't dry nor bland or greasy. Pernil tends to get greasy or bland depending on how its cooked but this one was good. Monfongo was great, moist, good flavor and definitely well prepared with love. Ticket time was a GREAT just under 13 MINUTES from when i ordered (See stop watch). Of course some of their items may be buffet style or made to order, but the flavor didnt suggest it, it had great flavor and good texture NOT DRY at all. CONS: I asked for skin with the pernil and it didnt come with it. Pernil portion was on the smaller side for the price. Congri had a flavor that was unique, i didn't like it. Maybe its me..., it really helps if the waitress can have a little personality when asking questions about the dishes, it seemed like she didnt known the menu and was brand new there or was didn't know the "Dominican dishes" i was ordering, or both. Last thoughts: Concept of the restaurant seems to target alot of Hispanic/Latino ethnicities and Nationalities. I met the brother of the owner and he came to inquire of our satisfaction on the drink and dishes brought to our table. Very nice man who is Dominican but lived in PR. I complimented him on making our drinks which was awesome and the service and quality was above average. Overall i was very pleased with the service and food quality and hospitality of the owners and the staff. Thank you for your service and I'll be there again! read more

Wow! I'm impressed. First off, they have the BEST sangria I have ever had, and I have drank A LOT of sangria. The coconut mojito is out of this world and this is coming from a guy who does not really like rum. As for the food, authentic AF! The arepas (I had the Blondie) was spot on and chock full of perfectly seasoned chicken. The plantains were solid and the black beans/rice perfectly seasoned. If you haven't been here, get here quick! Great food though a small place but I recommend the outside seating. Good music! read more

If you're ever in Lake Charles, LA- I highly recommend Area 337. Amazing and delicious food. We started with Chicharron Con Arepa (fried pork belly with corn bread) for appetizer. Perfect tasting to start. My dish was Pabellon from Venezuela served with shredded beef, white rice, black beans and ripe fried plantain. The shredded beef was very flavorful and filling. The fried plantains were amazing! He got the Paisa Plater from Columbia served with rice, red beans, fried pork belly steak, fried egg, avocado, chorizo and ripe fried plantain. Great first time experience here last night. It was a busy Saturday night which was a good sign. The place has a good vibe, with Latin music playing, a bright, warm interior, full bar, and outdoor patio area. The interior of the restaurant and bar area are rather small. The property has been many eateries over the years, and this is the best it has looked thanks to all the improvements the owner has made. To start I had a Pineapple Mojito which was the best I have tasted. Refreshing, with the right amount of rum, mint, lime, and sweetness. Gus, who we learned later is the owner, seated us and took our order. He was super friendly, explained the cuisine, and helped us select our entrees. We had the chicken stew, pork ribeye, mofongo, side salads, and Puerto Rican rice. We love all types of food, and this was our first time trying this type of cuisine. We thought it was delicious and flavorful. Comfort food with Latin/Caribbean flair. It seems like a popular spot and may outgrow itself. Area 337 is great addition to the Lake Charles area.
