It's been a couple of years since we last ate at LaRumba, so we decided to give it another try. The restaurant was very clean, and both the hostess and our waiter were friendly and attentive. The chips, salsa, and queso were solid and a good start to the meal. Unfortunately, the entrées were a big letdown. The same taco meat mixture--with potatoes and carrots mixed in--was used for the soft tacos, hard tacos, and enchiladas. Everything tasted the same and lacked flavor. The texture was also off and just not enjoyable. When my husband doesn't finish his plate, you know something's wrong. Came here for brunch while passing through heading to golden nugget. Salsa and green salsa were amazing!! Ordered the Tortilla soup, I give a rating of 9/10 chicken was perfectly tender, super rich/strong in flavor which was great but also a bit overwhelming with the first few bites. Order Tex-Mex rice and Birria tacos as well. Both were great. Great atmosphere, fast service & servers with a very positive attitude. Nothing to write home about. The chicken enchilada came out quick but I wish they'd spent more time on it. Chicken was tough and had no flavor and the sauce tasted like ravioli sauce. People were having a good time though. There was a huge party going on in the room they sat me in so I take it that the margaritas must be top notch and this is a good social place to meet friends. If I lived close by, this may be a place I'd give another shot or drop by every now and then but if I'm ever in Sulfur, Louisiana again, I'm going to dine at another establishment. read more

Many people lament about there being a lack of great restaurants in the Lake Charles metro area. After eating here agree whole heartedly. Everything about the place is okay, the service, serviceable from the hostess to the waitstaff. Food is quite heavy on the cheese and chili smothering any actual flavor of the main entrees. Also did the entire salt shaker fall into my enchilada meal? But overall it's ok. One note, please, please retire that sad "Birthday Sombrero". It's being held together by threads and lice eggs. Nobody wants to put that on and you are probably putting your servers tips in jeopardy. read more

Probably the best Mexican food in Sulphur and the service is always impeccable. We've done take out and dined in and both have been great experiences. It can be a little crowded at night and on weekends but we've never had to wait. Our waitress (we always have the same one) is a younger girl who is super attentive and helpful with the menu. I always order one of two things - either the fajita steak quesadilla with beans and rice or the spicy nachos with jalapeños. Both are cooked perfectly and the spice on the nachos is exactly what this pregnant chick ordered. The beans and rice are also a nice accompaniment to my meal and the chips and salsa are refilled super quickly. My husband swears by the number 27 (or 37) which is the Chile Rellenos covered in cheese and stuffed with ground beef. He says its authentic and one of the best he's had! Always look forward to La Rumba when I'm in Sulphur and don't miss out on the margaritas! read more

If you like authentic flavorful salsa this place has it. Taste fresh, not like it's poured out of a can. Walking in the door, we were immediately greeted with a smile and welcome. We were seated immediately. We ordered tea, which came quickly. We then placed our order for food. The food came out within 10 minutes; hot and delicious! Our server Tyler F was fantastic. Answered all our questions, made sure we had everything we needed, and friendly. All the staff seems to work great together which is a plus! Atmosphere was clean, booth comfortable, and noise level at a decent decibel level. Definitely recommend stopping here ! read more

This restaurant is very clean with a pleasant decor as well as quick and friendly, attentive service. As is customary with most Mexican restaurants, chips and salsa are complimentary. In my opinion, the appetizers are not a good value, but the entrees and drinks are priced very well. They serve Coca Cola products. Orders come out fast and hot. There is WiFi which is a wonderful thing considering Sulphur does not have good cellular reception (at least that's the case with T-Mobile in Sulphur). I came in at high noon on Sunday and the service was not compromised by the church crowds at all--there are plenty of staff at hand which kept wait times to a minimum! Will definitely consider coming back the next time I am in the area. read more

The food is good and reasonable, the service is usually pretty good. I find it a bit warm when we eat there, but not terribly so. Definitely a step up from Casa Ole without much of a price increase. Update: adding a star because I had lunch at the Sulphur restaurant today and for a low price I received way more delicious and perfectly cooked food than I could eat. Worst Green Enchiladas I've ever had. Poorly served (left the plate full) Corn tortilla was dry and stuffed with sliced breast chicken. Service was horrible- it took three employees to explain the food menu. I was very disappointed of how poor the food was made. Don't know what happened but they lost their touch. Been there a couple times but our last week visit was terrible. We had the combination fajitas and there was plenty of veggies, shrimp, beef and chicken. There problem was that it tasted like they forgot that it was a Mexican dish that had taste. Good friendly service, usually pretty fast, clean facilities, affordable excellent food (and more authentic than most in the Lake area)...and awesome queso blanco! Great margaritas (like the 2 for 1 drink specials- be careful the medium is quite big), good tacos, fajitas, flan, sopapillas, and quesadillas. Big fan of the "Toro Bravo" dip (triple meat w/ queso blanco). We come here weekly. It can get a loud on weekends when they have karaoke in the bar area (but pretty funny too). They usually have a TV with a soccer game on & another with a Hispanic show on the other, plus some Mexican music playing. Very casual. Has a small patio if the weather is good. So glad the previous few places that were here are gone b/c this place blows them all out of the water. I have no complaints. read more

The best margaritas in town! 2 for 1 everyday! The Quesadillas are really good. And they give a generous serving of Fajitas. While these dishes are good, I highly recommend the Toro Bravo dip. It is basically chicken, steak, and shrimp in a cheese dip. It's like 130x better than the flameado at Casa Ole. read more

Road tripping and got off the I10 and bam! La Rumba Mexican Grill & Cantina...we went In and friendly welcome. Chips and salsa within a minute of being seated all complimentary of course. I ask for a recommendation and fajitas was on the top on the list of recommended items. Minutes later a sizzling platter of shrimp, chicken and steak with onions and bell peppers. All tender and seasoned perfectly...it came with extra plate w beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream. Buddy orders carnitas plate...enough food in either order to feed two. Both expertly prepared.
