My wife got me a spot at an intro to glass-blowing 1 day class here as a birthday gift and I just made use of it. The class was great and the instructors seemed like really cool people and they made it easy to get started working with glass. I'd been wanting to try glass blowing for about 10 years now and this was a great place to try it out. I'm even considering coming back for one of the multi-week courses because it was so fun.

A real gem of a place, and the personality of Patrick is wonderful. Took my team there to make an ornament for Christmas, and it was a memorable experience. If you get a chance, well worth it. And the results were outstanding!

Found some gorgeous mushrooms yesterday at Maris Farms!! The artist helped my husband to choose some glass mushrooms for me. I can't wait to see what's in store for next year!!

M-SPACE! I am a stay-at-home Mom ... Now I only say that to express how LITTLE I get out and do things that are more adult (with the exception of Babysitters and dates with my husband!) -- but especially things for MYSELF that revive the creative side that gets lost in diapers, snot and crayons. I did the one day Pumpkin blowing in October -- and had such a wonderful time. I have made a pledge with myself (and husband has offered to watch kiddos!) to get here more often this year and invest in that part of me that seems so far away at times. M-Space is not only inspiring, but I loved that (though I knew nothing of glassblowing) the instructors were totally cool. They didn't make me feel stupid and seemed to actually ENJOY their jobs -- and explaining everything to me. If you can (and enjoy creative outlets) -- you really need to take one of these classes!!!

We just happened to park by it as we were going to explore and grab a bite to eat in downtown Olympia. I asked the cashier how long the place has been around and I was told it's been around for about two years. I'm a bit shocked that no Yelp entry has been made yet. Gallery Boom is a gallery that features over 100 local artists and virtually all of the work here is for sale. The prices on a great deal of the art pieces asked by the artists seem very reasonable. Since this gallery features so many artists the variety on what type of art there is here is quite vast. I bought several things here... a dried mushroom under glass, a purple crystal, a Christmas ornament with moss in it, a UFO rear view mirror hanging ornament and the bigger purchase a small lamp. Pictures of most of those things to follow. I was very excited to get this lamp as the artist makes all kinds of sizes of lamps that are inspired by sci-fi, UFO's, the Space Needle and other similar building structures like it. I first came across these lamps at another Olympia art gallery, Matter Art Gallery. That gallery has since gone defunct and I was very sad to no longer see these lamps but now I know a great physical location to go to for these lamps (the same artist like many of the other artist either have their own website, a point of contact or an Etsy account as well). It was great reconnecting with those artistic lamps again! The cashier said that reaching out to nearly all of the artists is easy and they are very receptive to communicating with the public. This also reflects onto the gallery itself as it doesn't come across stuffy or pretentious in the slightest. The cashier also mentioned that the art for sale can rotate out relatively quickly and that their is almost always something new to examine in a relatively short amount of time. Not only that but one pass down the aisles here just doesn't seem to do it justice. It seems like each time you walk where you already were you see something that didn't catch your eye the first time. So you can spend a lot of time here just doing that. I'm totally addicted to this place! I am SO coming back here but I'm going to wait maybe several weeks to a month for new art pieces to get brought in. If nothing else I'm most likely going to buy another one of those lovely lamps!

Unfortunately, the hours posted on Google were not correct, and when we arrived, the store was officially closed, although a class was going on. Win, whom I am assuming was not just sales but perhaps the manager, was extremely apologetic. Rather than turn us away, she let us browse , saying that she was teaching the class but wouldn't have time to help us in real time. She let us know that we could flag her down if we had questions. We really enjoyed ourselves. The store is much larger than any local yarn store I have been to previously, and there are many unique and different yarns. Win came to help us after her class, and could not have been more wonderful. What started out as a browse, turned into some nice purchases. It's a gem of a store, and I look forward to going back on my next trip up north.

In my case, there were some yarns that I liked, and they found the right projects for my taste and skill level, made sure I was kitted out, and taught me the techniques I'd need. In case you need patterns, they've got them. There's a full room dedicated to books. Don't miss the clearance section! They also do knitting workshops during week days by reservation, for a very modest fee. They also have classes, though they do fill out fast!
