I worked closely with several local rescues and used to volunteer at Ardmore Animal Shelter frequently. I caught AAC mislabeling dog breeds, as well as lying about their traits/temperament, to make them more adoptable. I tried to discuss it with employees while volunteering there one day, but they brushed me off and kept on. In one instance, I heard an owner bring in a litter of black pit bull puppies. Once she left, the shelter changed their kennel tag to "Labrador." In another instance, a young dog I personally brought in for a neighbor and filled out the info sheet on myself was adopted out to an assisted living home even though he was a (very large) puppy, so he was returned when his playfulness was causing severe scratches to the residents who couldn't handle his size. Then he was adopted to a cat-owning home even though I had written on his info sheet that he'd been killing neighborhood cats. I saw him listed for rehoming publicly with the new owner's email attached and emailed them about him, during which time I acquired his kennel sheet from when they adopted and found out his kennel card had been marked 'black mouth cur mix' even though I'd written down Pit Bull. When I said something about these events in a local FB group (privately moderated), the MANAGER of AAC blocked me from their shelter's FB page. read more
