It has taken me a while to write this because every time I think about this incident I get so mad. I scheduled an appointment via phone with "Ardie" for later that day. She asked me if I was obese or weighed more than 180 pounds. I found this off-putting but said no, I weigh much less than that. Instead of giving me an address to plug into my phone she gave me directions - which sucked. I got lost and was maybe 2 minutes late. When I get there she is waiting outside and yells at me for being late, she then starts saying I lied to her and am clearly over 180 pounds and obese. WTF. No, I am not. I try to leave but she apologized and offered me a discount, I decided to stay. Big mistake. I strip down and am lectured and shamed about my body for the entirety of the wax. I felt terrible, I was vulnerable and she just continued to shame me. I have lost 130 pounds and have some loose skin which she kept referring to.I ended up paying her the smallest amount and left to cry in my car. I will never go back to this rude woman. read more

Ardie is perfect for anyone on a budget. With that being said, there are several things to keep in mind.. but all in all, she is a perfectly OK waxer who loves what she does and loves her clients. (You'll see when you see all the pictures on her walls..) I had my first Brazilian wax with Ardie and I don't regret it. I wasn't initially going to get a Brazilian, because I had heard how much it would hurt.. But Ardie's price is something you CANNOT beat! Bikini waxes (all kinds, Brazilian, French, Bikini) are $25, which is an absolute steal in Santa Barbara. Some people have said that this is her 'student discount,' but I don't know if that's true. It was my first time, so I was terribly nervous. I popped two 200mg pills of Advil and I just told myself to do it. Nike. Ardie was great at keeping me distracted. She gives you her "speech," that goes about how men only think with their dongs, and you should love your body, etc etc. It's a wonderful speech, and I think she has plenty of wisdom to back up her words. The Brazilian was painful, yes, but it didn't make me tear up at all. Just jolt a little. Given the fact I cried when I got my nose pierced, I think waxing with this lady is a little less painful. She does a speedy job, but one thing bothered me-- she uses the same waxing stick for the session (she only disposed of it once the whole bikini wax), and I thought that was borderline unhygenic. Then again, I didn't see her touch the stick anywhere else, but I think it's good to note that. She also reused the same strips that she used to rip my pubes out of me, so I could feel the hairs against the wax. I guess she's just trying to save money somewhere, but it was a little gross to me! I also got the eyebrow and lip wax, and since I got a bikini wax as well, I got a 2 for 1, and the eyebrow and lip wax was only 15 together. It was such a steal! My last eyebrow wax was with Jaymie at Sol, and her technique was so painless. I cannot say the same for Ardie. She ripped my eyebrows carelessly, and when she was done, she hardly shaped them, and just cleaned them up. At least when I went to Jaymie, she'd ask me how I wanted them. But, I am not upset, because the price wasn't terrible. I think I'd rather go somewhere else for my facial waxes.. All in all, Ardie is one the most eccentric waxers I've met. Ardie is very eccentric. She gets the job done for a good price basically. She doesn't bull shit, she doesn't beat around the bush and she doesn't (like previously stated in other reviews) pay attention to detail. The one thing I loved about my experience waxing with her, is her constant conversation. She is a master of distraction! While I'm crying in pain, she has me laughing from her stories. I have been going here for a year or so now. She manages to finish waxing my whole bikini area in under 20 minutes, and the quickness makes it hurt much less than other places. One time I didn't have enough cash to pay my entire bill and she told me not to worry about it...that was very nice of her!! Phenomenal job at brazilians. I've gotten brazilians at salons, spas, for well over 60-80 dollars but for $25 Ardie is still the best deal and does the best job, better than any of the salons I've been to. I love that she is QUICK (she schedules people in 15 minute slots) and efficient, I hate when waxers use tiny little strips over and over again-- it's just prolonging the process. She also has a knack of making what should be one of the more awkward moments of your life completely fluid and fun, because she has soo many life stories to tell you over and over again. Going to her is pretty therapeutic for me. She has this amazing referral program (I don't know if she still does or not) so maybe ask her about that. The one time I write a HORRIBLE review. Ardie has zero idea of what 'decent' customer service consists of. She OPENS the door WHILE in the middle of the Brasilian wax job. She was suspiciously bipolar. She exemplified this behavior/symptoms immediately in responding very harshly to little things ticked her off such as, me asking her to close the door while waxing me. (very logical question) Her technique is complete trash, and I can tell by how many ingrown hair follicles she has caused. I went in there prettier than when I left. She took 45 min to finish and between every strip she waited about 5 -7 minutes to start the next. She also has a shrine of photos of all the girl's she's waxed; this is odd and it raises further questions of privacy and other business. very suspicious of her waxing routine. Yes its the cheapest wax in town, however it is worth the extra 20-25 dollars to go ANY where else. normally after a wax i am fine with in 2 hours however it took 2 days to recover after her sloppy work. Her Brazilian waxes are thorough, quick, and way less painful than any other Brazilian wax I have had. The wax takes 15 minutes tops! Also, I have never had ingrown hairs with Ardie, since she uses a special kind of wax. She makes her clients feel very comfortable while waxing, by sharing her exciting experiences and advice. Please do not go to Ardie! She is inappropriate, unprofessional and not even a skilled waxer.. She caterers to the under 18 and college crowd who don't know what a professional service with dignity should be like. Especially something as intimate and vulnerable as a Brazilian bikini wax. . She charges a lot less than what most do in town, but, you get what you pay for. The conversation she carries on with her clients range from how much money she makes waxing, to her past addiction issues, to who they should or should not sleep with. She told a friend of mine that she it looked like she had an std when she was waxing her! (my friend immediately went to her doctor and it was only an ingrown hair). I didn't, and I wish that I had before I went in completely unprepared for what was coming. Ardie is quick, cheap, and pretty painless. However, it is worth noting that she does not give an option for style of wax! She just goes ahead and takes it all, not my style and I'm not too happy with it but you know, hair grows back. What is more concerning is the hygiene of her methods, I'm not so keen on the lack of gloves and the double dipping. Also, she doesn't like to take people who haven't been referred to her from other clients, so bear that in mind if you're thinking of calling from here. She was very surprised I managed to make an appointment. She will talk a lot about religion, chakras and god, as a fact rather than an opinion. Again, not my thing, so I just smiled and humoured her. She has some good points on loving yourself and taking care of your body but I am not of her opinion regarding spirituality so I felt a bit awkward through most of it. As a person, she's pretty... well, wild is one word that comes to mind but not in a particularly complementary fashion. Certainly she doesn't give a damn what you think of her, which is neat. Let's start in the beginning. This weird lady in her pajamas comes out her room, and gives us a like 15 minute speech about life and how guys only think with their penises. She may be cheap, but spending 10 more dollars at a professional salon will definitely leave you with a better experience.
