A business like this speaks volumes about what true entrepreneurial spirit really is. Arctic was founded in 1931 as an ice house originally. But with all that freezing capability why not expand into an ice cream producer and distributor? So they did, and as is the saying, the rest is history. This location has been occupied by them since the 40's, and they are still an ice house. They sell blocks, bags, and even dry ice in addition to the more dairy oriented offerings. If Trenton had an official ice cream, this would probably be it. Today it can be found in several area restaurants and institutions. When Chambersburg was in its heyday, various flavors were available in most of the Italian restaurants, though for some reason peanut butter was king. Upon entering the establishment I was surprised by the business like setup. No bright colors or marketing of any kind. There were a few cases with takeout options available. Ice cream cakes that looked good and were good on the wallet too, and also Italian frozen novelties such as Tiramisu, Bombes, frozen fruit filled with sorbet, etc( each about $4) Against the back wall was an old school ice cream fountain, and a small blackboard that listed flavors and costs. From the less that 10 choices I already knew I would get peanut butter, and thought chocolate would pair well with it. You have 2 choices of size, small 2.50 and large 3.50. I thought what the hell, go with large. This was a huge serving, really close to being a pint, that the gentleman served in a fall styrofoam cup. This cup was so big that the spoon barely hit the bottom even when I had it barely gripped by my finger tips. Needless to say my hand did get a bit cream covered by the end. Both flavors were very good, and for those that say the peanut butter is the best around, they may be right. I would certainly enjoy the same combo again. Or I might opt for a few of the fruity options( that means you peach). I hope more people patronize this spot. While it may not be as eye catching as some parlors for the kiddies, I think the parents will be happy with the prices. 4.25 icey Yelps

As we waiting for our ice cream sundaes to arrive, the servers came outside and gave us fresh popcorn. It was such a small but sweet (and tasty) gesture. The owner came out and gave us our ice cream sundaes and chatted with us for a while about the life of an entrepreneur. She was so kind to give us so much attention and information on her life starting businesses in the local area. The mission of this shop is so pure and you can tell that the ice cream parlor was built with so much love. The ice cream and mango italian ice were both fantastic. If you are in the area, I hope you get the chance to visit and have conversation with the family.

I think in many of our cultures, getting ice cream was somewhat of a treat and possibly enjoyed while on summer vacations. In this environment it gets even better. That was my mindset when seeing TIP for the first time. Clean and brightly colored shop with very nice outdoor seating options. Going inside you encounter a clean, colorful and brightly lit space with a few more tables. The counter was plexiglassed ala Covid style. Cases held about 12 ice cream choices, with maybe 8 more ice choices. Several options looked appealing to me. I went with old faithful chocolate and paired it with something I've never had, banana split. While I liked the chocolate, I really liked the split. It did remind me of getting sundaes and such as a child. The flavors were clean in both, and not overly sweetened. A better than average creaminess, but not in the upper tier. I'd get either again, or maybe one of the rotating flavors. The ice cream is not made in house, I was informed that it is sourced from local makers. I have a few suspicions as to who they might be, but of course more research will be required;). I really enjoyed talking with the owner and his two sons. To say this is a family business and or a labor of love is just barely hitting the mark. I'm tempted to tell the whole story here but I think it's better for the curious to just visit themselves. This is a business I would love to see thrive for many years. And as they succeed it could offer hope to other businesses or even families. Trenton needed this.

El autentico sabor de Guatemalteca!…read more If you know what I mean. This tiny Guatemalan casa sits in the same location as the former Tierra Maya. That owner has departed, but the same people remain in the kitchen and are now running the show. Their orientation is somewhat different in that they have added a broad selection of ice cream and cool fruit drinks, both perfect for the Central American-type heat we have had this week. But, the food is still top notch, despite the extra refrigeration in the shop. Only 4 tables, the menu offered traditional comidas, plus Mexican platas for the growing Latin population in and around Trenton, NJ. I had the Carne Asada Tacos today. Three double tortillas, filled with sliced and diced thin grilled steak, onions, and hot chili peppers. Radish, Cucumber and Lime wedges for each taco, plus excellently grilled Jalapeno and Scallion on top of the whole shebang. Delicioso! The Chips and Salsa seemed homemade, as the corn crispies came out hot and scorched, with freshly made red and green Salsa. Really good! I also had a Bastida de Pina (Pineapple Shake), made from fruit cut just for me, milk and crushed ice. So cool, tart and refreshing. $3. Fabulosa! All this for $9. And, I rather enjoyed being the only Yanqui in the house.

The chicken tacos were actually good, but it took forever for them to prepare them. The warmth that was provided by the previous owner is gone, and so is their hottest sauce in the neighborhood. I first noticed Panorama Musicale while picking up lunch at Italian Peoples' Bakery next door. From the outside it still looks like an Italian shop from Chambersburg's heyday. But, walking in you realize you aren't in Jersey anymore. The language is Spanish, and the environment is Latin Café. I was there to see about lunch. The friendly owner showed me what was cooking in the water table, and I chose the fried chicken and rice. I noticed the other customers were drinking coffee, and soon understood why. Behind the counter was a copper classic expresso machine, complete with large dome and spread eagle on top. A work of art from another era. So, the chicken was dry and overcooked, and the rice only passable. I wouldn't return for their food unless desperate. For that alone, they would get two stars at most. However, I wasn't gong to leave without testing that awesome contraption, and ordered a latte to go. I watched as the process unfolded. Valves were turned. Steam pipe immersed. Foam poured. Impressive bit of engineering and design. And, the latte was excellent, too! Far better than the average joe, and at a reasonable price compared to the better known beaneries. If it had been served in ceramic, on a tray, and with a cookie, it would have garnered five stars; but given the styro cup delivery, I just couldn't get that far. Panorama Musicale could use a thorough cleaning and a little panache around its wonderful expresso machine, but as it is, it is a surprising find for superior coffee in the heart of Jersey's capital city.
