After looking at my A/C he determined my 7 year old unit needed to be replaced, fully. He quoted me 12,000 but then said there was a 2,100 coupon. I was very hesitant so he said there was another coupon for 1,000 off. I said that was still way too much so then he dropped the price to 7,800. Red flags immediately went off when someone tries to sell me something and then just keeps coming down on their original price. Smelt like a scam. His final offer was to just fix the motor which would be 1,800. He explained to me however that fixing just the motor would be a bandaid but I would have AC. I told him I would get back to him. A few hours later I had someone else come check out my A/C. This gentleman saw the fuse was blown, figured out why, replaced the fuse and fixed the problem. AC is running perfectly now. No motor needed. This company will try to scam you do not fall for it.

The price originally quoted got doubled because they charge for each unit and this house had two so be sure to make that clear when you ask for a quote. They also offer an annual maintenance plan which includes the filters which other providers I checked with don't include, but I prefer to use a higher grade filter so I buy my own and didn't think the price of the annual service plan was worth it for relatively new systems.

To Frank Gay's credit, they came out quickly and determined that the capacitor had blown. I was relieved because it was an older unit. However, the service tech insisted that my machine needed to be replaced. He said it was in critical condition and showed me the readout. He said it was over-amping and wouldn't last two months. Fortunately, they had a "special" going on for new units. Sounded like a sales pitch so I took a picture of the readout he showed me and uploaded it to ChatGPT. It said not to trust those numbers because they were way off and it looked like the probes were reversed. ChatGPT encouraged me to call someone else. So I did. Chilly Billy's came out today - two days later. The AC guy was named Nas - very easy to talk to and smart. He ran the same tests and determined that while my unit is pretty old - it's working fine. The numbers were well within manufacturer guidelines. They said they would not recommend replacing the unit. So, I learned I can't trust Frank Gay.
