Chevron - Krispy Krunch Chicken

Chevron

(10 reviews)

After reading through a lot of the reviews for this Chevron in Oakley, I can understand where many…read morepeople are coming from. While I've personally had mostly good and decent customer service experiences, I recognize that not everyone has had the same interaction -- so I'll keep this balanced. For me, this Chevron has upgraded a lot over the years. They went from just having Crunchy Chicken to now serving pizza, expanding their hot food options, and even adding a walk-in beer cooler. The convenience store itself is well stocked with a wide variety of items. For this area, it's honestly a pretty solid gas station. AMPM and Shell nearby really need to step their game up -- and I won't even get started on the 7-Eleven near the old Kmart, which has gone downhill. Now, what could be better: The car wash experience hasn't always been great. The process can feel a bit convoluted, and for the price, it's hard to justify coming here regularly. I'd much rather pay for an unlimited monthly membership somewhere else than pay per wash here every week or two. Some store items can feel pricey -- but to be fair, I travel often and see similar pricing at many gas stations. In fact, certain items are actually cheaper here. Energy drinks are a good example. A Rain energy drink here runs about $3.85, whereas I've paid around $4.21 at multiple 7-Eleven locations in Antioch. Interestingly, the Chevron on Somersville (same ownership) tends to price some items higher, which I've never fully understood. Still, paying nearly $5 for a soda anywhere nowadays feels wild. What keeps me coming back is consistency. There are employees who've worked here for years and clearly know the business well. Service is generally decent, and most workers are understanding. I've even been allowed to use the air pump for free recently, which wasn't always the case before. The store itself is clean, and the restrooms -- while sometimes taken advantage of by the public -- are usually maintained well. The hot food area is also handled properly. Crunchy Chicken prices are reasonable, and the food doesn't sit out forever, which is a big plus. Overall, the location stays busy, and that foot traffic speaks for itself. Even nearby competitors struggle to match it. This used to be my regular Chevron when I lived closer, and while I'm not in the area as often anymore, I still find the pricing more reasonable than in parts of Antioch or even Brentwood. Not perfect -- but definitely one of the better, more reliable gas stations in the area.

I love the new look! They've recently renovated. I used to come here to get fuel but it would get…read morecrowded. Now that they renovated there's more fuel pumps and the store is bigger. Crispy Krunch is in the building as part of the store. I love Crispy Krunch. The chicken we ordered was very good, I don't think it was fresh but was still crispy. And I tried to order other items but the guy advised me that it wasn't fresh so we didn't get them. Te store is nice and neat and the staff are ok, they can be more friendly, maybe smile from time to time, they can do better. The price of the fuel/gas is just a couple more cents higher than the ones near it but It just depends on what type of fuel/gas brand you like I guess. But I'm really happy with the way the look looks now.

Bridgehead Shell - It's actually in Oakley, CA

Bridgehead Shell

I rarely come out this way anymore, but when I do I like to stop at Bridgehead Shell. I got some history with this place. I used to have a job with a national audit company, and back in the 90's we drove out here at 4 AM to do stock and fuel audits. It was a different time back then. In the old days, this gas station was super busy at 6 AM. It must have different owners now, the place looks boring. On a Friday, around 430pm, I was the only one getting gas. The foodmart was plain, with no promo signage. Limited selection of snacks and candy. The cashier was very friendly and nice. Looks like the carwash is run by REBEL now. Maybe the foodmart is a REBEL C-store. But there's no signage yet.

I stopped this morning to get gas and a car wash before heading out of town. The card reader at the…read morecar wash wasn't working, so against my better judgement, I put a $20 bill in. I paid for a $14 car wash, and the machine said there was no change, to see attendant. I went inside to get my $6 change and the older male clerk tried to give me a $1 bill. The receipt that the machine printed didn't print correctly and the clerk told me my change was $1. I asked him how much the highest priced wash was and he told me $14. I told him again that I put a $20 bill in, but he said he's only giving me a dollar. I let him know again that I put a $20 bill in the machine, and why would I waste my time to park and go inside to argue with him over $6. He was rude and I ended up telling him that he was a crook and I left so frustrated. Never again will I buy gas, a car wash or even a pack of gum here. Nope!
