Located at the edge of the campus close by the Schuylkill River, it has greatly expanded in the past two decades to dominate Civic Center Boulevard, even replacing the historic Civic Center for which the street is named. With over 750 students and 2,600 faculty, it is ranked as the best medical center in Pennsylvania, #6 for research (tied with Duke University), and tied for 20th in patient care with University of Wisconsin. What this all means in short is that there are few places where medicine is taken more seriously to the benefit of its patients and the entire community. Graduation from Perelman is an honor that sets you up for a lifetime of excellence in care and a great career. While the school is in the same building as the main entrance to the medical center, they are not the same thing. Both are owned by the University of Pennsylvania, but have separate administrative offices befitting the enormous size of the overall institution. More eyes and expertise overseeing all aspects of the health system established in 1765. All in all, not a bad place to be cared for if fortunate enough to have its services within reach.

Everyone hates on going to community college coming out of high school, but honestly going to Bucks…read morewas one of the smartest choices I've ever made. Here's why: AFFORDABLE - I paid off each semester easily. If you live in the county, a year of college at Bucks is only going to cost you more or less 4,000 dollars. SAME PREREQS- As long as you do the research to make sure every class you take is transferable, taking your prerequisites here is the same as taking your prerequisites elsewhere. The only difference is about 10-12,000 dollars. Saving that much moolah sounds pretty damn good to me. STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO - The student to teacher ratio is pretty small. It usually looks something like 19:1, though I'm not exactly sure what the ratio truly is. Individualized attention is not hard to come across. The classes are not insanely large, especially at the Perkasie campus. GREAT PROFESSORS - I've had some of the most awesome and involved professors at Bucks. Randolph Quinby was my favorite...he teaches Humanities courses. Take one of his classes; you won't be disappointed. CLASSES FOR FULL TIME WORKERS - There are tons of options for night classes, online classes, and hybrid classes (half online, half in school) that are designed specifically for hard working people with a busy schedule. Of these three options, I prefer night classes. They are from 6 to 9:30 at night with a break at around 7:30/8. The professors understand a busy schedule and, as long as you put genuine effort into the class, they will understand if something comes up (late night shift at work; kids sick; etc). CUTE CAMPUS - Yes, the Perkasie campus is wimpy wimpy wimpy. But it's just so...CUTE!!! The two buildings are located in a Giant shopping plaza. And I don't mean giant as in the size; I mean it's literally located right next to the supermarket Giant. I like it though; big campuses always intimidated me. There's a cafe called Down to Earth Cafe in the plaza where a lot of students will go before or after class. TRANSFER AGREEMENT PROGRAMS - Many of Pennsylvania's state schools have a transfer agreement program with Bucks. I know from personal experience that Penn State Abington will grant you a 1000 dollar scholarship if you graduate with your associates from Bucks and transfer to their campus. There are a ton more options too. ADVISORS - Let's be honest: advisors want you in and out of the program just as much as you want to be in and out of the program. The advisors will do their job to get you into the classes you need and help you graduate as soon as possible, and advising slots are always open. So I obviously have a slight obsession with this school, but it's only because I'm sick of hearing everyone bash it! Bucks County is an amazing area in the state to live in, and the community school is a good one! (And much better than Montco, I've heard ;]). Definitely don't rule out a community college for the sole reason that it is a community college. It's a great choice in the long run and I promise you won't regret going here!! :) Cheers to Bucks Perkasie. WARNING: The fact that Bucks is a community college does not take away from the difficulty of its astronomy class. IT'S A TRAP! It's not all about pretty stars...it's actually really difficult, and the professor was hardcore!!! There were 11 people in my astronomy class initially, and we ended up with 4 left. I was one of the last ones standing, but I barely passed with a "C." There was another girl who was a straight-A senior at Kutztown University who had been putting off her science credit. She took the same class I did and she barely made it out alive as well. Don't underestimate a community college's courses.

It's nothing like main campus and isn't too commuter friendly if you don't have a car... also they have animals running around like it's a freaking zoo... but I can overlook all that for it's awesomeness. If you like nice people and a beautiful campus you will love this place.

I am reviewing this university solely as a commentary on the grounds practices of USP. USP is in a…read moreunique position to have a positive influence on the ecology of West Philadelphia, as they own a key chunk of land situated near both Clark Park and Woodland Cemetery, two greenspaces, close to the Schuylkill river, in a highly-developed urban area with little greenspace. First, I want to say that the campus IS doing a lot of good things ecologically. Many of the larger trees planted on the campus are native, and they have left some of the land at the edges of their property semi-wild, which provides more habitat for migratory birds. I do bird surveying as a volunteer for eBird (http://ebird.org) in Woodlands Cemetery, and I've seen a number of somewhat unusual birds utilizing the property on the USP side of the fence...numerous warbler species, Fox sparrow, white crowned sparrow, small flocks of hermit thrush, and many more common migratory birds as well, as well as resident woodpeckers, and once, a bluebird. But one thing I really don't like about USP's practices is that I have seen the groundspeople of this university spraying their flower beds, including ones near the street, with liberal amounts of synthetic herbicides. The grass on the campus also shows a sterile, uniform look, which I suspect reflects heavy chemical usage. I think that the use of herbicides for aesthetic purposes is entirely unnecessary, and I think it would both look better for USP and be better for the community and surrounding ecosystems if they'd halt the use of herbicides entirely. I have researched herbicides extensively, and most of the mainstream ones used, while the marketing material put forth by the companies selling them tells you are totally safe, can be quite damaging to the environment. For example, Roundup, one of the most commonly used ones, is highly toxic to amphibians. I have written to USP to urge them to halt the use of herbicides. My impression of this university would be more favorable if they would halt this practice. USP is a school that is best known for Pharmacy, a science that is dedicated to protecting and advancing human health. How are they protecting human health by spraying unnecessary synthetic chemicals for strictly aesthetic purposes? I do not think that this usage is consistent with the overall purpose and misison of USP and I would urge them to halt this unnecessary practice.

Although, I attended during the raucous football era of Coach Pettine (Sr.) and personally, I really never gave a crap about how our football team was doing. (In case you missed that CB West was State Champion for like, years & years in a row back then.) Whatever. I enjoyed certain things, but really - I am so glad that high school is over and that I never have to do that again. Oh yeah - and to that IDIOT gym teacher who flunked me and threatened to not let me graduate until i could successfully run "the mile" - here's a big"sod-off"! Nobody in Corporate America has EVER asked me to run a mile. Ever. My reunion is coming up this November - and I am prepared to attend looking fresh and FABULOUS. P.S. Pink (Alicia Moore) went here. "Blandness with a side of rude customer service"…read more I'm an upper-middle class businessman who worked in the Doylestown area for the greater part of the year, and have been able to sample most of the noteworthy dining locations in town, excluding of course this particular establishment, it being just beyond the densest part of town. During my lunch hour, I felt it proper to finally give Buck's a chance. The property is quite large with an accommodating parking lot--the lot was quite packed, though luckily I was able to secure a parking space. I went in through front entrance and realized that this is not quite a restaurant in and of itself, but some kind of collective of facilities seemingly not unlike the YMCA. There were a lot of children moving around when I went into the building; it seemed like perhaps a school had brought their children here for a field trip. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to properly enjoy most of the facilities. I was impressed; near the entrance they boast a lecture hall, a set of restrooms neatly tucked away in a crevice, a lounge area, an indoor sports gymnasium, a membership/sign in booth, and what appeared to be a social services office. Beyond that, I noticed sets of public lockers just off the hallway, and series of offices in hallways dissecting the larger "avenues." I made my way to the integrated food establishment, fittingly called "Nourriture pour les Affamés." It featured semi-buffet style get-it-yourself service in an area aside the tables and chairs. I went into the area, picked up a serving tray, and picked out a chicken patty, an apple, and a box of chocolate milk. The cashier was quite rude, claiming that they wouldn't take my Discover card (just what do they think they're selling, drugs?), so I of course had to pay cash. I find myself a seat and began eating. The chicken patty was dry, lacking in any toppings or condiments whatsoever, the apple tasted like wet cardboard, and the milk was in a box. Disgusted, I knocked the remnants of my half-eaten quote unquote "food" onto the floor and attempted to exit the food establishment. Before I could even get close to the exit, a small, leathery woman began berating me about God-knows-what, something about privilege cards and detention and blah blah blah, all the while spewing saliva onto my person. I had no choice but to sit back down and wait for the bell before being allowed to leave.
