Went to Temple for undergrad after transferring twice. Did not enjoy the college experience, but different strokes for different folks! Saint Joe's on the other hand is great. A few of the professor's i've had in my MBA program just read off a powerpoint, but the ones that cared went the extra mile. I've learned a ridiculous amount in just a semester. The work load is insane if you max out credits but totally worth it. Pick their concentrations related to data. Other majors seem to be less inspired from what i've seen in core classes. The highlight for me is that their 2 year MBA can be completed in one year if you go HAM. Swayed me over nearby schools for sure. read more

I was appalled by the lack of empathy and refusal to make an exception to protocol regarding commitment deposits due to circumstances outside of our control. Nothing mattered to them, no matter how much of a hardship it was. They refused to find any common ground. Disappointed to say the least. There is always a way to help a struggling family while still meeting protocol. We did not appreciate the fact that SJU undergraduate admissions were so protocol driven, they forgot to be human. We got the chance to come to St Joseph's numerous times for field hockey clinics and camps and we did two campus tours (one with my daughter and another with my so ). They do a really great job on the campus tour. My daughter loved the field hockey coach, but it wasn't the right fit from the coach's perspective and we garnered a lot of respect for her for letting my daughter know rather than just trying to lock her into paying for more clinics like some other coaches we dealt with. In the end, the school wasn't right fit for either kid academically. If it were I would have been happy with their choice...though it is a pretty big number when you look at the tuition and fees. read more

This school is the bomb dot com. One of the admissions officers, James, gave us a review of what they look for upcoming students, overview of the school, as well as costs. Yes, he answered any questions that we had. Hailey was out your guide for the campus tour and she was from VA just like us. She and my daughter connected during the tour and my daughter was able to ask her various questions during the tour as well as the other students. Be prepared to do a lot of walking on the campus tour, so dress comfortably and wear some comfortable shoes. We happened to tour on a day that the heat index was 121 degrees, but the campus kept us hydrated with cold, bottled water. Honestly, I thought I knew quite a bit about the school. Yet, I learned so much more. Don't count them out because they have a lot to offer for everyone. It's not too small and not too big. A great medium sized campus in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Don't forget to check out Hawk Hill. Most importantly, remember that the Hawks never dies!! read more

Cons: --permit-only parking lots and very little street parking (what PLS student wants to pay $150+ for a parking pass when they're only in class twice a week?) --the constant construction at the new Maguire campus --aloof and sporadic escort service from SJU Public Safety (it shouldn't take an hour to get an escort from this building to the train station, especially late at night when they're only running once an hour). Pros: --Finnesey Field for athletics watching --great academic support (funnily enough, half my profs have graduated from 'Nova but always come back to SJU) --renovated school buildings Having been to a handful of post-secondary institutions, I'm so glad that I finally landed at SJU. This review is for their financial aid office. I called in to ask about the my financial refund status on 4th week of school every single semester( but the school website says about 2 weeks after classes start). They acted like it's my fault the process is slow and talked very grumpy on the phone. It's my money that I borrowed to pay for their school and to pay them to process it for me so I have the right to ask where it is and they seem very annoyed. Again, they are always late every semester and always grumpy on the phone. I graduated with BA in California and never had to run in this situation like this before. California schools always process financial on 1st week of class and they never disappointed you. read more

Where do I begin. I'm in Grad school. The only thing I like is that the school is clean, however it's dangerous if your leaving from the library or evening classes at night. I had one man jumped from behind the tree and charge after me. I had to run for safety. I called campus security and the guard on the phone got an attitude and never sent anyone. The professors are not good. Some of the professors who teach Grad school don't even have Doctorates. There is no student life. I like to lift weights and go to the gym. The gym at Saint Joseph's is out dated and filthy. It's so bad I stopped going and started running on the open track. The open track is no better because they allow the public to run on it at anytime. The people in the neighborhood who run on the track for the most part seem OK. But, recently there have been highschool football teams coming on the Track taking the track over. A group of the teenage boys from the football teams approached me while I was running on the track and started saying these real nasty things to me. I reported it to the school and the woman on the phone blamed me and raised her angry voice at me. And acted as if I could've done something to stop it from happening. I could not believe it! I stopped running on the track too and due to COVID-19 nobody is allowed on the track now anyway. No real restaurants. Just Larry's pizza across the street from the school, and one small restaurant. And I've had too many issues with billing. The people in financial aid department got bad attitudes too. I called one time to ask about my refund, and they acted as though I was doing something wrong for asking about my own money. It takes the office too long to update the financial aid on your account. It is my experience that if you email a few of the professors about a question about the class they don't respond. And some of the professors are lazy. Some of the professors rant instead of teaching to make the time go by fast. Some of the students are very racist. There is a problem with some of the students using racial slurs, but the campus keeps it quiet. It's not a diverse school with different ethnicities at all. I am so discouraged and sad all the time. I was going to transfer back to Temple University where I got my under grad degree, but when COVID-19 came the offices shut down. I would not recommend this school. And if I ever have children I would tell them go somewhere else for a college experience. read more

As someone who already works in the industry, I signed up purely to get the piece of paper, so I was under no disillusion of what I was getting myself into. Still, I wasn't prepared for the overpriced nonsense that was to follow. For those curious, this was the "Business Analytics" graduate degree program which included "data mining" and "data science" concepts. 1) The entire curriculum is obsolete - introduced concepts from the 90's as if they were new (OLAP, Visual Basic). Also, is spending multiple weeks talking about the difference in primary key vs foreign composite keys really helpful in the real world? 2) The professors are low quality - the 1 hour spent teaching regression was taught incorrectly because the professor was ignorant to the mathematical concepts. Some professors barely care. All professors just go through the motions, setting up hoops that you need to jump through, but none of it really contains what I'd call content. Also, when I downloaded a copy of the syllabus to submit for tuition reimbursement, the metadata in the document showed that the the author was actually a different professor from Villanova. Would that violate their own academic honesty policy? 3) No systems support - when it came time for the 2 weeks of learning hadoop, neither the professor nor the school knew exactly how the technology worked, so students simply submitted screenshots of error messages as proof that they tried. Poor professor was left with zero support of how to setup a hadoop platform. 4) Blackboard & Aleks platforms - enough said I'd write more, but I have to get back to posting my required 450 word per week "discussion" over in the class forums thats worth 30% of my grade. read more

Hawk Hill is like no where else. My undergrad years were some of the best years of my life. While the schooling was rigorous, it was fair and provided a well-rounded education. The school is in a wonderful location with beautiful grounds. It's close enough to the city but not too far in that you feel isolated, all of which I preferred over the other big Philadelphia Universities. The size of the classes and school over all are both large enough to feel like there is enough room for diversity, yet you also don't feel like just a number when in a class or walking around campus. St Joe's was the most perfect choice for me. The nostalgia I feel for the University is immense. I miss it deeply and highly recommend the University. Perhaps one day I will be back for my MBA. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go to run because I love the track. I first started using it when I attended Saint Joe's. I live in the area, so it's like having my own track to work out on. My fiance and I prefer early mornings or late nights. That's when there are less people and we can practically have the track to ourselves. The only thing that sucks is when the students return and we have to walk or run on the sidewalk near the track because they are using the track. read more

I decided to continue my education and I found Saint Joseph's University through some online research and I was intrigued by what they had to offer so I eventually applied. They were very helpful through the application process and also kept a open line of communication with me during the whole thing which I greatly appreciated. Moving forward I was over 5 courses into the process where out of the 5 classes I received a C+ or a C in it. The school states that you have to maintain a GPA of a 3.0, which I also understood but things do happen which it did for me which greatly affected my studies while trying to take care of my elderly grandmother who suddenly became ill. So I tried my hardest to keep up with my assignments and course work but again things didn't happen the way I wanted them to. After the two C were received at that point my GPA fell slightly below the required GPA. Immediately I was dismissed and dropped from the program with only having two classes left to graduate with my masters degree. When I appealed and explained every detail of my situation I was still denied. That hurt me, I continued school to make my grandmother proud which was the least I could do with everything going on. After all of the money that the school cost to attend the online program and not even being considered for a second chance to prove myself showed a lot. This university doesn't care about anyone. They've gotten what they wanted which was all money. Now going through a tough time I have become discouraged to move forward because I only had 2 courses to complete, so to try to apply anywhere else would be something I could never afford. So thanking Saint Joseph's for showing me how much they care after all of the course work and time that I've dedicated all went to waste. read more

Generally a good experience but there are a couple of areas that could bring the school from good to excellent. First and foremost, there is no placement assistance for graduating students or recent alumni. Certain programs like food marketing and insurance seem to have a productive approach but other majors are not even addressed. Their job fairs are of no value to liberal arts majors and generally consist of B-team Philadelphia employers. How about a little initiative with the Philadelphia business community to improve this critical aspect of university service? Second, their financial aid office is embarrassingly transparent and callous in their assistance to existing students, particularly upperclassman. If a students family has an event that changes their financial status, there is virtually no effort to assist as their attitude seems to be "you aren't going anywhere and we have you trapped until graduation". Leaves a very bad taste and certainly not reflective of Jesuit values they unabashedly tout. Lastly, the food service for resident students is as bad as anyplace I've seen and I have toured at least two dozen colleges over the past few years with my kids. This would seem to be a simple thing to improve if they had any interest in doing so. The common eating areas are dated, cramped and depressingly unappealing. The food offering is about as institutional as you can imagine. I have another child who went to Loyola in Maryland and they made multiple improvements in their food service and eating areas in the four years she was there. Each improvement better than the former and the former would make St. Joe's ashamed by comparison. Simple improvement that would really increase the student experience. On the positive side Saint Joe's had many good people working there who seemed to have open doors and were willing to help. I never worried about safety and the proximity and easy access to a major city's downtown provided a great opportunity. Housing options were excellent and from what I can gather from my son, professors were generally good and engaging. New president is a little young but seems to be learning quickly on the job. At many Jesuit institutions administrations can seem to have delusions of grandeur and alienate the universe of people who have been their bread and butter over the years in favor of what they view as more desirable diversity. Saint Joe's seems to be doing a good job of staying true to its roots without neglecting communities that have been historically disadvantaged. read more

If you want to live in Philly or NJ afterwards, St. Joes is a good place to go to school. The school has deep alumni connections in the Philadelphia regional area. But If you want to live or work somewhere else in the country, I would not go here. It is very much a "local" school. St. Joes provides a good education, but it is not a diverse school by any means. Many of the students are the same - white, conservative, catholic, preppy, many of whom come from local Philly Catholic high schools. Not a diverse bunch. It is not the traditional college experience in that regard - you are not exposed to different viewpoints or ethnicities. And I found that is the way many students who go there would prefer it. The social life is very limited unless you are greek. You really need a car. Temple, Drexel, Penn are more fun and diverse, with more to do and see. St. Joes is somewhat isolated by its location. Food and pub choices are limited as well. All in all, if you can get into Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, UPenn, Drexel, they are better choices. read more
