The convenience of the booking site is good too. It made it easy to find the time that works best for me

We took our son here to get a haircut the last week in February. The previous haircut (NOT done…read morehere), the barber had cut his hair so unevenly and it was growing out terribly. Little dude needed it to be fixed, ASAP. We looked up places near us, and thankfully found this little gem. Called ahead, and they said they had time immediately so we drove on over. There were only two people working there that day, and the gentleman who I spoke with on the phone ended up cutting our sons' hair. I believe his name is Carl, but please forgive me if I am wrong. His chair is the first one when you come in on the left. He listened to what we wanted, was so good with little man (aged 4) and had such a natural rapport with him. He made the haircut such a breezy process and FINALLY his hair was even again! It was a perfect cut, and very reasonable ($13). It has been two months, and it is growing out the way it should be. We will be back, once the world is back up and running due to current quarantine but I really wanted to show 5 West some love!

Yes. One bad egg can ruin it for everyone. Brought my toddler there for a cut today. Would've been…read morehis fifth cut if I did not walk out. I believe the guys name was Rob (if he even gave me the right name) I can't remember because I was too pissed off. Right away when I asked for him not to be buzzed I wanted a scissor cut the back n forth started. Told me he was not able to use scissors on a kid because they move too much and it's dangerous. (I get the worry) Mr Pete did his first haircut (who was awesome) he used scissors no problem. Then two other awesome ladies did his hair as well no issue. My son definitely felt the negative energy already and acted on it. I should've trusted HIS instincts immediately. He knows who he doesn't like. Then he proceeded to tell me my son had too many cowlicks. He has ONE in the back of his head which is a swirl most boys tend to have. The rest I explained is because he went to sleep with wet hair and his natural wave took over. Starts cutting my son's hair without even a spritz of water. Gets annoyed when my son drops his binky. I then sat him on my lap and tried that way, and the frustration grew. I asked him can you still cut it fairly long if you used the buzzer and he replied that's what I've been trying to tell you. Um, sir, no you weren't. You had negative energy from the start and then told me I was being rude since I arrived. Anyone that knows me knows that is not my MO. I took my son and left. Now he has a wonderful cut. That was done WITH SCISSORS BTW! My son didn't like your attitude and neither did I! Never going back! Also stop smoking in your building it smells putrid in there. I'd love to give the others who we've worked with 10 stars but this jerk deserves zero. If you don't like your job do something else.

REVIEW: The Holy Black Barbershop -- North Babylon, NY…read moreCategory: Traditional Barbershop & Men's Grooming Location: North Babylon Overall Rating: (5 / 5 Stars) CATEGORY BREAKDOWN 1. Atmosphere & Aesthetic: 10/10 They nailed the environment from the floorboards up. It carries a rich, unapologetically masculine vintage aesthetic that feels earned, not manufactured. From the dark wood and classic leather chairs to the industrial fixtures and custom apothecary gear, the entire space has character and weight. It's an environment that respects tradition and makes you feel right at home the second you walk through the door. 2. Camaraderie & Staff Demeanor: 10/10 The dynamic in this shop is rare. The crew is welcoming, down-to-earth, and immediately brings you into the fold. It doesn't feel like a cold transaction or a sterile salon appointment--it feels like you're pulling up a chair and hanging out with the guys. Good banter, mutual respect, and zero pretension. You get genuine human connection that leaves you in better spirits than when you stepped inside. 3. Craftsmanship & Skill: 10/10 A sharp aesthetic doesn't mean a thing if the blade isn't true, and every barber in this shop has serious talent. They take pride in their craft. Lines are laser-straight, fades are seamless, and the scissor work is meticulous. They don't rush the chair, and they don't cut corners. You walk out squared away with a cut that looks just as clean days later as it does when you stand up from the chair. 4. Shop Order & Cleanliness: 9.5/10 Even with the rugged, classic decor and heavy foot traffic, the shop is kept in disciplined shape. Stations are brushed clean, clippers and razors are properly sanitized, and the product displays are sharp and organized. It balances high-energy shop camaraderie with clean, professional standards. 5. Flow & Pacing: 9.0/10 The rhythm of the shop moves with purpose. You don't feel like cattle being rushed through a turnstile to clear the waiting area, yet they stay on schedule and value your time. The experience lets you decompress, enjoy the process, and get back to your business without wasting daylight. 6. Location & Access: 9.0/10 Situated conveniently in North Babylon with solid lot access. You don't have to navigate tight downtown traffic or circle blocks looking for a meter. You pull up, park, walk in, and handle your cut with zero friction. PROS & CONS * + Top-tier craftsmanship from barbers who truly understand the art of the trade. * + Outstanding camaraderie; feels like hanging out with good friends while getting squared away. * + Authentic, rugged vintage aesthetic that sets a high bar for local shops. * + Easy parking and reliable neighborhood access. * - Because the talent is well-known, booking ahead is a must if you want your preferred chair. THE VERDICT: 5.0 / 5.0 The Holy Black delivers the complete package. It revives the lost art of the neighborhood barbershop--a place where craftsmanship is taken seriously, the environment has grit and soul, and the fellowship between men is genuine. If you want a masterclass cut in a shop where you actually look forward to sitting in the chair, this is the place.

Came here for a standard haircut on a Wednesday afternoon. I had been wanting to stop in this place…read morejust by the looks alone. It's got an old timey mixed with modern punk kind of feel to it that I really am all about it. But the punk vibe is only that, because the guys here are as nice and helpful as can be. It had been a seriously long time since I've gotten my hair professionally cut and don't even really know what I can do with it, but I was in good hands with Robby (literally). He asked me a whole bunch of questions and gave me some ideas and I went for it and was incredibly happy with how everything turned out. So much so that I think I'll go back to having a barber on the regular again. At some point I would definitely want to try a professional shave too, but right now I don't have anything worth shaving! You can tell this place cares about community too, every one that popped in felt like they had been friends for years, and that's a kind of homey feeling I love to see in a local business. So this is how my hair journey begins, and I'm very excited to see where it takes me!
