Westport Brewing - It is what it is IPA

If it wasn't for our server and the good quality beer, I'd only rate this 1-star…read more 1. Ambience and environment- fair. The patio hangs out over a parking lot. The lake view in the distance makes up for it. Inside, the booth seating and bar stool area is very old-school pub amplified by the brewing tanks that make their presence felt. There's nothing outstanding about the ambience. 2. Beer - great quality. Order the flights if you're not sure. 3. Food and service - my guests ordered the burger with kettle chips. Burger was ok but was more like a slider than a burger. Very skimpy on the chips which consisted of about 10 or so individual chips. There was no option for fries or a side salad. The Brewery salad was excellent but once again, the optional extra chicken consisting of about five thin rings ($7) was very disappointing. 4. Value - Poor value for food. Management should reconsider the prices they charge, especially when there are several other restaurants in Westport that provide much more, and better for equal or lower prices. 5. Service - poor. Our food arrived but we had no cutlery. I had ordered an appetizer which never came. It was followed by a mild apology after I questioned it when the main course was served A good restaurant would have served up a complimentary app to make up for the shortcoming. I won't be going back unless it's just for a pint of their excellent lager and/or dark ale.

I would say this is a perfect example of a hidden gem! Our last visit up here we spotted this…read morebrewery driving by and our trip up this time remembered it when we drove past again. Compared to so many industrial style breweries this one stands out and caught our eye again. With more time this trip to New York to see family we made the trip back over to try their beers. When we arrived the owners were the only ones here. We checked over their beer list and I first tried their Raspberry Haze while my wife grabbed their Blueberry Cobbler. I thought both were great brews. We had a fantastic time talking about beer and loads of other topics with the owners. You could tell they have a passion for creating craft beer and running their small business brewery! Also despite being opened for 9 years the inside is so nice and clean you'd think it was a recently opened spot. Because we are far from home we needed to try a couple more beers so I got their Latitude 18 (tropical wheat ale) and my wife got the Sinful Snap (spiced amber ale) and these two were fantastic as well. This is a spot worth making a trip for, not just for the delicious beers but also to meet the owners. A brewery we will make a trip to when we are back up in this area for sure!

The place was very quiet, but I assume the place draws more attention in the summer months. I tried their John Daly, and their Transfusion. My fiancé had their Cosmo, and the ADK Mule. I enjoyed all of the drinks, though I will say the drinks were pretty hard. If you can handle your alcohol, then you'll love this place. We spoke with the bartender, and he said they have lots planned for the summer! Definitely worth the visit!

I am the type of person who likes it already paired with what it needs so I went for an option under others. I got the bear dump plate which is their take of a garbage plate. My only recommendation is they do a princess plate (half portion) because there was so much I was full within 5 minutes! The food was delicious and the bartenders were great company. The beer varieties were nice and I actually loved their seltzer. It has no flavor and they have a variety of flavor syrups to add to it, the lavender with it is very refreshing. Their cocktail menu was amazing and diverse as well and my boyfriend was excited to get his transfusion. Overall a great spot and we love visiting when we come up to old forge.

Kid and family friendly. The beer is great, nothing on their current rotation that isn't enjoyable. I've been several weeks in a row and they've had something new to offer every week. A trend I really hope they continue with. One of my favorite things about breweries this size is a constantly changing rotation and the limited edition feeling when they change their lineups. They have several New England IPAs (hazy IPAs in some circles) that I really enjoy and their ESB is a great summer beer. Easy drinking, light and refreshing. The atmosphere is great. This is a brewery focused on great beer and great conversation. They don't have a kitchen but have bar snacks by way of bags of tasty chips and they do allow you to bring in your own food or get food delivered if you want something heavier. They have some board games you can borrow if you're looking for something else to enjoy while you sip on your beer. The brewery is right in the public square with ample parking in the rear. The bar area gets a bit crowded but the back room usually has plenty of space and a table available. You can order drinks from the bar and walk them back yourself or wait for one of the awesome staff members to walk back and check on you. The volume in the back is conversational making this a great option to catch up with friends over a pint or three. I thoroughly enjoy Boots Brewing Company. I travel a bit for work, and my favorite thing to do when I visit a new location is browse Yelp for breweries. All in all, I've been to between 100-150 craft breweries, so I have a solid baseline for comparison. If you appreciate good beer, you'll appreciate this brewery. If you're idea of good beer comes in a 12 pack that costs less than $15 than this place might not be for you. If you're looking for a bar or a place to watch a game, this also probably isn't your cup of tea.
