Arancia, like the Orange it is named for, is a zesty place bursting with flavours.
Italian food in the backstreets of Bermondsey could not come any better. I first went here 10 years ago! Arancia is still there, now rated by Hardens as amongst the top 5 Italian restaurants in the UK. No more than 10 tables in an eccentrically kitted out ex corner shop suggest modesty. The food and the service casts aside any such thoughts instantly.
To start, perfect Crostini topped with chicken liver pate and pickled vegatables sit on a bed of bitter leaves. Flavours and textures combine and contrast superbly. To follow, perfect al dente Linguini with Razor Clams, chilli and garlic exuding that rare sharp yet smokily sweet set of flavours. Puddings also looked fab and you can sample the fabled sparkling red Valpolicella here too.
This is classic Italian cooking; homely, flamboyant and stylish. That this place survives on a really unpreposessing street at the wrong end of Bermondsey is testament to its excellence. read more
