This sandwich shop and cafe, underneath Wood Green's sprawling Shopping City (apparently shortlisted as one of the UK's ugliest buildings) should win some kind of award for use of mirrors. A massive one on the back wall of the cafe makes the tiny space look vast, and removes any risk of claustrophobia.
I use this cafe occasionally when running the gauntlet of the Wood Green Shopping Trip. Their sandwiches are freshly made, generously filled, and pretty tasty. They also do pressed panini and toasted club-style sandwiches, and you can choose to upgrade to a baguette or ciabatta for a few pence more.
Drinkwise, they sell all the usual cans, plus do a decent Cappuccino which, to my chops, has the edge over Costa's (next door - and strangely smelling of weed every time I walk past.) There's an ice-cream booth at the front of Breakbar that does a brisk trade, but I've not sampled it yet.
Ideal for a takeaway sarnie, baguette or ciabatta, or a good place to dive in for a quick lunch-cum-escape from the scrum outside. read more
