She was not greeted at the door or was asked if she needed any help. Please keep in mind that this was her only day off and it was her last day to spend time with her nephew and niece before they go out of state. Needless to say, children get bored and start entertaining themselves while waiting for auntie to get done shopping. When my girlfriend checked out, the cashier was very rude, judgmental, and seemed very annoyed of my niece and nephew in the store. There was no smile, and was very flat affect. She decided to come back again for more scrubs, granted there aren't many options in Des Moines to shop for scrubs. The second time was a better experience. She was greeted by a friendly face and was even directed to scrubs that would fit her very petite figure. The same employee then took the time to ask her at the fitting room how things were fitting. Another employee came up and greeted her with a friendly face and assisted her in finding shoes. She was understanding of her need in comfortable but efficient styles of shoes. They literally tried on 10+ different types of shoes, danskos, sketchers, etc. (My girlfriend writing now) She did try to upsell me a couple times but never pushed me into buying something that wasn't the right fit. I then proceeded to check out and the bill was well in the three digits. It was a different cashier who was friendly and also signed me up for a coupon deal, which the first cashier never mentioned. Overall, I think it is a few employees that need to change their perception of people with children in the store and in general. It's bad eggs like them that give people a bad taste of the store. I gave them three stars because I don't know if it was because of me not having children with me the second time or if it was the big bucks I had forked over, but overall those few friendly employees helped me get the right scrubs and shoes.

All three looked directly at me and did not open up there mouths to say not one word to me. To add insult to injury two of them walked right by me looked me in my face and did not ask did I need assistance or anything. I started to purchase something and confront them about the lack of customer service. But I will wear my scrubs down to the SEAMS before I spend a DIME in this establishment. To be a traveling nurse thousands of miles away from your family is one thing. But to literally be treated as if I don't even exist is absolutely horrible in this day and time. Do NOT shop here and take your hard earned money elsewhere travel nurses!

Horrible customer service.. I have been a frequent costumer of Carpenter's for several years now,…read moreand have bought many items from them, both for on duty and off duty or casual uses. The other day I went in to try and exchange some 5.11 pants. I had called them a couple of weeks prior and asked about doing this exchange, the rep stated that would not be a problem. Now these particular pants had not been purchased at Carpenter's but I knew that they carried that style and I was hoping to just exchange for a different size. The size that I was bringing in is a pretty common size and would not be hard to resell. When I got there, they had no idea who I had talked to, and gave me several excuses including "their account department would not allow that", and "if they ever had to send a shipment back the stock levels would be off." Seriously, how often do you need to send 5.11 pants back?? Anyway horrible experience and I will not be returning for duty or off duty items in the future. Update (9/9/2015) - Several days after I wrote this review, I received a call from my director that Carpenter's had taken the time to call her and let her know that I was trying to sell uniforms that were purchased thru my work. First I was not trying to sell anything, merely exchanging for a different size. And more importantly, the pants were not even part of my work attire, they were pants that I had bought on my own online, and did not have the receipt to return for a different size!! My Director understood and in the end, it only made Carpenter's look worse then they already are...

The person at the front was okay...but not very personable. The manager (I assume) came out a bit later and he was a little better. On site stock was low as far as the white dress uniform shirts. I'm in the process of cleaning out a storage locker because they keep raising my rent on it…read more.. A couple items I had in storage were sports related. A 10.5 ft Viper kayak (used a couple of times) and a kayak cart (still new in box). I decided to take both into Play It Again Sports. I didn't really want to deal with selling them privately on eBay (local pick up), Craigslist, or FB Marketplace. Play It Again Sports is the only place I know of to sell stuff like this other than a normal consignment shop (Stuff Etc. or a different place like that). If you are a seller they will give you cash or in store credit. The in store credit offer will be more than the cash offer. The kayak was purchased for $240ish new a few years ago. The gentlemen I was dealing with at Play It Again Sports said they'd sell it for around $100... Offered me $50 The kayak cart was purchased for $40. Was still new in box... They said they'd give me $7 If you don't mind the back and forth messages with possible buyers. People lowballing you. Having to arrange to meet someone...who may or may not show up, etc. Selling privately might be a better option for you... As far as putting the maximum amount of cash in your pocket...selling privately is definitely going to be the better way to go Like I said... I didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling these privately so I took their offer. At least it paid for dinner that night for my son and I... So you know what to expect... As a buyer you can probably plan on getting a used item for half off new retail. Maybe less if the item has been sitting for a LONG time. As a seller Play It Again Sports is probably going to sell your used item for half of new retail, and offer you half of that in cash (25%ish of new retail). It's a great resource to have to get rid of unneeded sports items. You at least get a little money back v. donating the items to Goodwill, etc. To wrap things up... I found the staff here to be polite and great to work with. I dropped in with no call ahead and the process was simple and easy. If you have sports equipment to get rid of maybe slide in and check them out... Doesn't cost you anything but time. Don't like the offer you can always say no and choose to go in another direction. If you are a parent looking to save a buck... Definitely stop in!
