Kaizar School of Art

I had every intention of sending my child to this art school. They seemed professional. I went to…read morean open house and realized they were everything but professional. Everything was a mess the man telling us about the school couldn't seem to answer our questions well at all. BUT my biggest concern was the new art instructor they just hired. The art school posted about they're new instructor and his art work. When I took a look at his profile I was very taken back, his art work is extremely dark. He had a art piece of a bloody child. All of his art looked demonic. So I simply commented on Kaizar school of arts page, and basically ask if they do back round checks in the hiring processes because I was looking into sending my child to the school but I want to know it's a safe environment for my child. Then the school proceeded to delete my question and block my account. That is what proved to me how unprofessional they are. It also proved they don't look into who they hire, how is a parent supposed to know their child is safe in a place where the school can't even assure safety to the child. I was very shocked and disappointed.

My 9 year old niece had her first art class here on Saturday. Because of our circumstances I had to…read morestay the two hours for the class. Although I stayed in the back I eavesdropped often to see how my niece was doing. Jocelynn is amazing with her young students. She engages with them in a way that they all seem to really enjoy; she jokes, she tells stories, she listens to them. In the middle of class she gives them a small break and does an art history lesson. I think it's wonderful that students get to see works of great artists. They talk about and discuss the work of the artist being discussed while eating a snack. She sells art supplies in her studio at a fraction of the price you'd get at the store, and she didn't push me to buy. As a matter of fact I really wanted to buy supplies and she told me to hold off until my niece was sure she wanted to stick with it and was comfortable. My niece had a good experience. Although she's an amazing self-taught artist Jocelynn taught her the correct way to use pencils and how that she should draw what she sees not what's in her head. There was a little bit of a back and forth with my niece insisting that she was doing it the right way but I'm telling you Jocelynn has the patience of Job. And I'm sure she's used to dealing with artists who are stuck in their ways (even if they are only 9 years old). But all in all she enjoyed the class. Jocelynn gave her individual attention (I don't know how but all of the students received one on one time with her). Watching and listening to Jocelynn and my niece in class confirmed that getting her into an art class is the right decision because it has to be easier to develop good habits as an artist now than later.

I've had the privilege of studying with Jocelynn for 4 years and have learned a great deal from her. She is an experienced oil artist and sculptor and uses her many talents to instruct students in a variety of mediums in every class. I began instruction with Jocelynn as an adult learner, kids out of the house, and my only experience was drawing with a No. 2 pencil. Jocelynn has taught me how to see, how to draw, to work with values, with dark and light. She has taught me color theory, and how to use it in a composition. I have learned to work in charcoal and chalk, oils, and pastel pencils. Jocelynn is very reasonably priced, making classes very accessible and enabling me to afford to take two and sometimes three two-hour class per week. My Studio LLC has been a real find for me! Please treat yourself to a visit to Jocelynn's artist and school web pages. Jocelynn's work is available to view and student work is available on the school site. I'm relatively new to doing yoga on any sort of regular basis, but I've been really enjoying the classes a lot. The instructors are knowledgeable, gentle, and regular people. What I mean by the last thing is that they also have difficulty with some of the more difficult poses, so don't feel awkward if you can't do them either. Classes are very relaxing and focuses heavily upon trying a pose, trying a slightly harder pose, and gradually stepping up; stop wherever your comfort level is. This has been good for me as I'm prone to old injuries acting up, so one day I might be able to try everything, other days I simply stop where my threshold is that day and am not pressured at all into going further than I should. So far I've had the chance to take class with 2 different instructors and while each has their own style, I noted that they each permitted the class to communicate personal preferences to them in a manner that didn't 'out' you. For example, most classes, the instructor will offer to put their hands on you to help you get to different positions and request that you communicate your preference on being touched in a non-verbal, subtle manner; such as turning your palms up while the class is in Child's Pose. Overall, the community and mentality is lovely and nurturing. I very much recommend Sol Space if you're new or at the intermediate level of yoga. I'm not sure if people interested in advanced yoga poses would find the classes boring as there are only occasional attempts at very difficult poses (and my knowledge of yoga is limited so what's advanced to me might be easy for others).
